Thank you, I'm in a frat and one thing you learn after becoming a member is that everyone has different terminology, in my org PC is line, (Alpha line, Beta Line, Gamma line, etc. ) but other orgs use PC for Public Ceremony, so for them to go after some guys for that sort of stuff is kinda silly

For the non-Americans a fraternity is a "Greek" Scholastic and Academic Organization within a University. They give young students "Freshman" or First Years as you might know them, networking opportunities during and after University. It also gives the new students camaraderie during their time in school. Many of these Frats will host events like Parties (classy lol and trashy ones, depends on the frat), charity events like Philanthropies such as community service and fundraising. There are Frats that are sometimes specifically geared toward certain traits like Math, Music, Singing, or even Cultures like Jewish, Asian, Black and people with Dwarfism. Specifically Black Greek society has a whole other culture attached to their own Greek culture. There are also Greek Societies that are both genders but it is few. Most is Frat or Fraternity (Male) and Sororites (Female). Most American universities have Greek societies. Much of the fundraising money (especially at larger public colleges) From Alummi (past students) will go to Greek societies on Campus. Many Greek societies are even given their own housing on or off campus where their chapters (a specific group who have pledged at a certain region or school) will live while they are in school. Rooming is free at the cost of the University. The largest and most well know part of Greek cultures is pledging. This is done during something called rush week. It's usually done beginning of the year sometimes weeks or days before classes actually start. Different Greek organization will hold events across campus for prospects to check out each organization and then pledge to one. But you also have to be accepted or saught after by many of these Frats and Sororities to even pledge in the first place. Many universities have an average of 40-60% of student body being in Greek Organizations. Depending on the School and Greek Organizations these Frats and Sororities....(more sororities these days) are very specific and discriminatory when it comes to their pledges. Many will be mostly white if not all white students. Many of whom fit a certain financial, class or racial bracket. These are some things that have overtime given Greek Society especially sororities bad reps. While on the other hand Fraternities have had issues with what is called hazing. So jas Sororities but it is seen more frequently a problem with Frats. Hazing is a form of testing a pledge. It can go anywhere from performing sexual acts on superiors is the organization to doing school work for other members or just quirky little fun tasks. This is done to see who is really "fit for" or dedicated to the frat or sorority. Many Universities have banned hazing due to bad innaprorpitae acts from past groups. Most frats and sororities these days though are wholesome organizations with long history withing American Schools and Universities.
