With the ridiculous price of transfers in today's market as well as Manchester United's stature as a titan of the sport, signings like this will always cost money and there is always a risk (Martial's long term career). But Rasmus Højlund is the EXACT kind of signing they should be making. The speed, technical ability, high work-rate, versatility, pressing and good hold up play are all there, which is remarkable for a 20-year-old with limited game experience. And that's before you add in the speed and physicality you can't teach. United have figured out that buying strikers past their prime is not the right move to make and are properly investing in their future. People need to remember that many of United's best stars were not the finished article when they arrived like Ronaldo and Rooney and have always been one of the best clubs in the world with regards to developing young talent over the years. Real Madrid have made it their policy lately to pluck young talent with hopes they'll create long-term world class stars too, such as Vinicius, Valverde, Camavinga, and Rodrygo. With any luck, another more experienced striker may come along that lessens the burden he'll have to carry for the team, but he'll definitely be physically ready for the English game more so than others.
@YevOnegin Жыл бұрын
Pogba had all those things too, and was proven at the top level. Its not the 70s anymore, just because a player cares when he's 20 doesn't mean he'll care when he's 22. And United, as a club, are experts in convincing players to not care. Will Hojlund still be trying in three years? Sure, maybe. Will Haaland? Maybe. Did Neymar? Dele Alli? 10 years of Barcelona youth products? All of this analysis is pointless, the days of long term investment and progression are long, long gone.

I feel like it’s important to realise that us United fans aren’t comparing him to Haaland or anyone else. Only rivals and neutrals are doing that, and it’s understandable why. After Haaland came in and performed so well, any forward would naturally be compared to him, also the surname plays a part. However, we’re not too sure what we’re getting with Højlund. He doesn’t have to be the most prolific striker but if he can at least start bagging goals and stop us being so wasteful and actually finish the numerous chances we create then he’s done a job well done. A lot of praise from teams with an interest in selling him some goals against mediocre opponents and some criticism of it going to his head. I hope he comes with the passion and work ethic mentioned and then maybe we've got a player. As for the price, well Utd always over pay so no surprise there but then that's what a striker costs these days I guess. Haaland's buyout clause was lower but I'm sure with all the additional fees it shakes out the same in the end and just look at the price of Caicedo. Fingers crossed for you Hoijlund anyway, show us what you've got.
@MayankJha Жыл бұрын
With the additional fees and extraordinarily high wages to make up for the low release clause, Haaland is much more expensive than Hojlund and it doesn't 'shake out the same in the end'. Though of course it all has been worth it for City regarding Haaland. Infact with wages and other costs factored in, Hojlund is actually much cheaper in the long term compared to what a deal for Kane or Osimhen would cost for example. Then we have the Oddset Pokalen, which I believe to be the cup competition in Denmark, with 2 appearances (100 minutes) and again no goals or assists. And finally the Future Cup, which appears to me to be a competition for even younger players than U19 (2 goals and 1 assist in 2 matches). On top of that we have 5 appearances including 2 goals in the UEFA Conference League. This is all I could find from his time in Denmark. Quick one. You’ve put the price up to clearly pull in more traffic. He didn’t cost £73 million he cost £64 million pounds. Fix up

As a United fan im not expecting Hojlund to succeed at united this or the next season but he will be a huge player later i think his physicality will help him a lot in the premier league but i would prefer to have another striker in front of him... Ohh, he costed 64m actually but anyway tifo lately is going downhill
@jaend6924 Жыл бұрын
maybe you mistook Euro for Pound-Sterling. 73m EUR is basically 64m GBP according to today's rate
@aldobonaso3481 Жыл бұрын
as a Juventus fan, and somebody who has seen Hoejlund play many times in serie A...this is way too much to pay. He was linked with Juve as a potential Vlahovic replacement...and most Juve fans were sceptical...especially when it was reported that he would cost 40-50m euros...well if I was hesitant at 40m euros...73m pounds is insanity. He's decent, a good prospect...he's not the next Haaland though, and I fear Man Utd have been had.
@RoyHodgsonBurner Жыл бұрын
As good as he may be, I don’t think he should be expected to start for United. It’s too early for him and he could use a full season off the bench to adjust to the Prem, when his chances come, he’s gotta make food of it and not play around

I am concerned about this move given he is injured to start his career. If we go on a run of bad form before he starts the pressure on him will be huge.

Highly priced for a 20 year old striker from Atalanta... after Mason Mount, this was probably the worst piece of business Man United did this year
@kevinabrahammathews4238 Жыл бұрын
Honestly I hate to put my hopes on a 20 year old kid. He may be great but we needed a more senior playeer at united to shield him from the burden of being the only striker that is if Martial keeps getting injured.

His stats are similar too. Bendtner was coming off the bench and scoring some important goals at 20. I always felt he could've been a good player if he had a better mentality.

Not an United fan. But i can't believe the toxicity in the comment section, amongst United fans and haters, some of whom are in consensus that he will fail. He is a nice player and seems to be a fine guy. People need to get to toxic about clubs and remember these players are people. It's like a job for them. One wouldn't wish an office worker to fail in his job if one hated the company he worked for.

I saw the pricetag and thought it was our other £73m forward, Sancho. It feels like a PTSD Flashback. We were so excited for Sancho man. 😭
@les_crow Жыл бұрын
Sancho isn't the problem, United is. Notice that when Ronaldo moves anywhere the entire dynamic of the team changes to accommodate him. PSG didn't accommodate Messi so he struggled. These are some of the best of the best. United needed to have looked at Sancho's situation in the BVB team and asked themselves if they were able to fit that into their tactics to enable Sancho, they didn't - cue struggles. Too many managers are more interested in what they want to play over what the players are suited to and how they can fit together. It's not even that hard to do tbh, you just need to care about something other that your opinions and feelings.
@RedDevilRundown Жыл бұрын
@@les_crow this is true to an extent. But the premier league is different to other leagues, because every team is so good. This makes the tiny details very important. So each player has to perform within a system. This is what people mean when they say a team performs in "moments", it's where a system is not fully implemented and individual talent shines. You will get away with this in a lesser league but found out in the prem. It's why players take time to settle, they need to learn team movements (where and where not to be during a game).

Check some footage of the period when both Sancho and Haaland were playing together at Borussia Dortmund. 65 goals and 35 assists between them in 2 seasons of the Bundesliga, 10 assists from Sancho to Haaland. Sancho is totally worth that money in my opinion, it's Ten Hag's fault that he doesn't know how to utilize him.

It’s an ill advised “meme” move. Already United got ETH who’s seen as a “poor man’s” Pep. Now RH is just going to be seen as the poor man’s Haaland. Unless he can outsmash EH in the Prem, he’ll always be in the shadow of a meme move. RH had the hype and I’m sure the talent and drive. He should have stayed or at least gone anywhere other than United when taking into consideration having space for his own career development. This is without even considering that ETH could be sacked even before he makes his debut. Too much of a rushed move IMO. Olise in contrast made a good call not to rush things. To back himself to develop and that good opportunities will come.
@Viewer41 Жыл бұрын
The lad looks like a good prospect, but imagine Man Utd had paid £73m for a 20 year old English striker? There would be outrage at the price! "English tax" and other myths would be thrown about.

Dane speaking: It's worth noting who coached FC Copenhagen during his time there: Jess Thorup, a very conservative trainer playing boring football. If he was coached under the likes of Neestrup, the new coach, it might have been a very different FC Copenhagen story. Maybe they would not have needed to bring in Cornelius then, who arrived after Højlunds departure.
