I used to work at Whole Foods in San Francisco, and Chris Isaak used to come through my line, every once in a while. He's just as handsome these days as he was 30 years ago in this video. And what a video! Herb Ritts, I think. Very fashion. Helena Christensen looking at her nails as he gazes at her adoringly is such a gut-punch. Very clever and sexy concept, with eye candy for everyone. "Wicked Game" married his Roy Orbison-Rockabilly approach with a dreamy Twin Peaks vibe, which made sense. It was featured in a David Lynch film (Wild at Heart, 1990) at the height of Twin Peaks' cultural influence. The song was not only his most popular but still probably his best. And he had many wonderful LPs. Only a few other hits (the wonderful "Somebody's Crying", "Baby Did a Bad, Bad Thing") dented the pop charts, but he's been a mainstay on Adult Alternative format radio for decades, now.
