You are right about that tone change at about 4:25 (your video), it is very purposeful. Have you eveer heard someone when their voice breaks from speaking to crying? that is used a bit more in eastern music. I love this song and can't resist the chance to hear it again, even after all the reaction videos. What I really love is how she brings out the undertones and overtones in her voic. Thanks for your time and effort to review Diana. Yes, her technique is singular, she's a stage monster, her head voice is so strong and beautiful, her control is mastered at such a young age. Diana was orphaned as a child and she did not speak well, so singing lessens were given to promote communication. This is just a small part of her story. Here's some background on Rechenka (River) if you choose to review. Diana was only 14 years old for the performance on the same show. This is an old Russian ritual song about an orphan bride. The girl has no parents. The figures behind Diana are spirits of water and forest. The river was considered the boundary between the world of the living and the dead. She goes to the river and asks for the blessing of marriage, she says that there are many people at home, but there is no father and no mother. You hear Diana singing in a whisper, these are the words of the deceased mother of the bride. Then the girl is crying, its the Yodel repeated four times. I interpret in this version, the character Diana portrays, doesn't end well. In Russia, weddings sang sad songs to scare away evil, and the marriage of a young couple was happy. Such songs were called “weeping”. I believe as viewers, we are pulled into her performances because of her amazing vocal techniques, the ability to emote to her audience and her stage presence. She creates a world for us, then brings us in for the journey. Its the whole package! Thanks again.

Rich Dandanell oh, yeah, Rechenka (Russian) = “small river” will blow your mind away. The song story is as follows. The orphan girl is going to marry soon. She approaches the river to ask it for a blessing and protection from devils (you’ll see them in her video) and to cry. Crying and asking for blessing a day before a marriage was a very ancient Russian tradition. River was a symbol, a border line between good and evil. In fact Diana herself is an orphan girl. Ar her age of 3 her natural mother abused her, almost killed her in the bathroom and threw her away outside in winter time. She spent 2 years in an orphanage, didn't say anything, that is she lost the power of speech. Then when she was 5 years old, she was taken by an employee of this orphanage and on the advice of her friends brought her to a vocal teacher in order to restore her ability to talk. This is a Chris Isaaks tune. If you want to see her at her *best* , check out her performance of 'Rechenka'! It's based on an old traditional folk tale about an orphaned girl who is supposed to marry someone she doesn't love, and she goes down to the river (the border between the living and the dead) to talk to her mother and ask for her advice. It's beautiful and sad and haunting, all at the same time! She performed *marvelously* , and was only *14 years old* at the time!

Hey Elvann. I discovered you only recently because of Diana and I'm really happy that I did because I enjoy your singing a lot(hardly surprising considering I love Nightwish :D) so I ended up subscribing to your channel. We seem to have similar taste in music judging by your reaction nearing the end of this video and your covers and songs. That last part completely blew me away as well and had me covered with goosebumps. Anyway, I'm going to post a fairly lengthy comment, but I hope that you(as well as other viewers) take some time to read it. A lot of people already suggested that you react to Rechenka so I suppose there's no need for me to pile on that. Yes, you should definitely see Rechenka because it's amazing and I'm almost certain that you'll like it a lot, but I'd like to take you in a slightly different direction. There is another incredibly gifted singer who completely transformed this particular song into something magical, mystical... primal even. She's a fairly obscure singer/songwriter from Croatia with world class vocals named *_Nina Kraljić._* She's a type of singer who appears to improvise live vocals. Techniques she applies while singing live seem to be decided upon while she's performing, similar to what Lisa Gerard does when she records. No two live performances of a particular song ever sound the same. She has amazing control over her fairy-like voice and she just plays around with with it in many ways. Even if you don't end up recording a reaction to her, I'd very much like you to just give her a listen and let me know what you think. I'd recommend starting of with her song called *_Snijeg_* (snow) to see what she's about and if you like her tone and style, but it's her live performances that are truly spectacular and deserving of a reaction/vocal analysis, in my opinion. Like her own rendition of _Wicked Game_ that she performed on the first Croatian Voice show, which she ended up winning by a landslide. Looking forward to it. Cheers! :-)

Oh yes, you will LOVE her performance of "Rechenka" (Little River). It is an old folk song about an orphan girl being married off, without friends or family (who might as well be just imaginery friends), she now came to ask the spirit of the river (who might as well be just an imaginery friend) for marriage blessings and protection. In her interpretation it just turns magical. Honestly, you have to be on another level, to hypnotize the judges of a singing contest to the point that they forget they are there to judge and jump to push their buttons the moment they think the song is over. I actually also like her interpretation of 'this is a mans world' from the same show. There you can actually see how young she was at her first participation (13/14), and yet, she performed this song in such a strong and confident manner (deserved), which is just so impressive.

Rechenka (Russian) = “small river” will blow your mind away. The song story is as follows. The orphan girl is going to marry soon. She approaches the river to ask it for a blessing and protection from devils (you’ll see them in her video) and to cry. Crying and asking for blessing a day before a marriage was a very ancient Russian tradition. River was a symbol, a border line between good and evil. In fact Diana herself is an orphan girl. Ar her age of 3 her natural mother abused her, almost killed her in the bathroom and threw her away outside in winter time. She spent 2 years in an orphanage, didn't say anything, that is she lost the power of speech. Then when she was 5 years old, she was taken by an employee of this orphanage and on the advice of her friends brought her to a vocal teacher in order to restore her ability to talk. How is possible that you don't know original song😉 is so known in the world...well maybe because since i born I listen to music all kinds...heavy metal, pop, alternative rock, folk, rock, country, blues, ska, punk, dance, trance, even dubstep and classical. Like when I been child I listen all 80s music, and I born in 1988. I spend all my afternoons to listen to viva and mtv( those 2 channels been so good to listen the music in 90s), rather than watch cartoons.

She is talented and her voice is so unique. However, at this point, I can't pretend that I like it. I'll check other songs of hers to get a better idea. I'd love to hear her singing some kind of Björkish style of music or something like that. She deserves more elaborated compositions, in my opinion. But she's so young (I didn't know she was only 16), no doubt that her best songs have not been written yet. I will keep an eye on her career. So thanks again.
