One video of Diana's, in my sight, is a total masterpiece the like of which I don't remember ever seeing before in my long life. It's a must see for anyone that loves singing with unending emotion. The background of the song is essential to know. The title of the song is "Ornery (or "Fastidious" or "Finicky") Horses". The song has nothing to do with horses in reality - the horses are being used as a metaphor for life. The author of song is begging the horses to slow down (he is aware he is approaching death), but, at the same time he is whipping them along (his chaotic lifestyle) - he knows that his lifestyle is taking him to an early death, however, he is unable to change it.....the composer of the song, Vladimir Vysotsky, was a singer-songwriter, poet, and actor as well as an alcoholic & drug addict and died in 1980 at the age of 42. kzbin.info/www/bejne/oqabmopvd8iKo7s . Her polyphonics carry on in her speaking voice especially in words ending in In, En, An, and Ing. I think herbroken clavicle and other injuries remodeled differently affecting laryngeal sonics adding to her naturally large larynx thats easily visible in Wicked Game. Bro, she is unique, she literaly learned to sing first before speaking. She doesnt know who her father is and her mother was drunk and junkie who abused her. She was found in winter on streets with broken bone and half dead when she was 6 and then she was taken from her mother to state institution for children without parents. Woman who worked there adopted her and because she didnt talked and refused to talk from traumas she found her singing teacher... Thanks for this cool reaction! Rechenka was one of Diana Ankudinova’s first great masterpieces. Diana has a lot of very prominent overtones in her voice. I’ve seen lots of fans say she sings polyphonically, but she has never said this (to my knowledge), and I’ve never seen a vocal professional say that she does it.

Не надо никого ни в чем убеждать - "имеющий уши, да, слышит, имеющий рот, да, поет". У Дианы, даже в разговорной речи слышно, что она одновременно произносит звуки разной частоты. Не, это любой человек делает, но, не настолько разнесенные по диапазону. В "Реченьке" это тоже есть. Ну, не услышал человек - ну, и не услышал. От того, что еще несколько раз прослушает, мало что изменится. Уши и мозг, он же себе не изменит. Парню, видимо, хотелось, чтобы были только низкие и только высокие частоты, а средних-переходных не было. Спешу огорчить...Голосовые связки, как единая резонирующая система, неспособны отделять одну частоту от другой. Можно придумывать всякие фокусы, когда верхняя часть резонирует с одной частотой, а, нижняя - с другой. Но, т.к. это - единая система, середина будет неизбежно передавать градиент.

Я вообще далека от музыки и никогда не была ничьей фанаткой. Но Диана зацепила тем, что у неё объёмный звук, после неё все голоса кажутся плоскими. Я долго вообще никого слушать не могла после Дианы. И не я одна так слышу. И то, что Диана- оргАн в окружении фортепиано не только у меня такие ассоциации возникали. Для этого надо послушать не одну песню Дианы) Мозг сначала сопротивляется, не находит объяснений феномену, а потом сдаётся и начинает воспринимать всё великолепие)

I will explain to you the meaning of this old Russian song that was sung during the wedding. Since a much shortened version was made for the modern stage, not even all Russian people understand its meaning. An orphan girl from a foster family is married off (most likely, to a man older than her and not of her own free will). She comes to the river (reka), affectionately calling it rechenka. The river in the folklore of many peoples is the border between the world of the living and the dead. She turns to her deceased parents: she asks for advice and blessings. An orphan girl is faced with a choice - to drown herself, committing the sin of suicide, or still accept the circumstances and "go with the flow". What will she choose? This is decided by the audience together with the performer of this song.

Diana is an unique contralto (dramatic contralto) her comfort range is C3-C6 but in constant evolution. Diana uses many vocal techniques rarely used in pop music (like overtones, yodel, and some from lyric chant....). The one that seems to amaze people the most is multitonal (polyphonic) voice. The root notes are enriched with powerful harmonics which can give the impression that there are several overlapping voices or an artificial effect which gives this result. This technique is used in Slavic folk music, like Bulgarian vocal groups or artists like Pelageya (kzbin.infovideos), the Russian folk diva. I cannot tell you exactly how these artists achieve this result, I was just told that it is linked to the simultaneous use of the different resonators of the human body and that such a mastery of the voice and of the breath with such a fluidity requires years of work, Diana has been singing on stage and has been taking singing and performing arts lessons since the age of 6! She has become famous in the broadcast "You're Great!" ("You are Super"), a song contest reserved for children who have had a difficult start in life. She is at the river, the boundary between the living and the dead asking for their blessing. At the end she is in the boat, does she cross over or does she return to the living. She is 14 here, so listen to her sing Wicked Game and then listen to Can't Help Falling in Love. This song is sung almost completely in her upper register, and she has said that she is most comfortable singing at the bottom. She is a true polyphonic dramatic contralto, the deepest and darkest female voice, with amazing range and control. If she chose to go in that direction, she would be in great demand in all the great opera houses around the world.

The "polyphonic singing" I think was a misunderstanding and it just got spread around. In her performance of "Wicked Game" on this same show, the backing track has some vocals which sound like Diana's voice, and if you listen, it kind of sounds like she is singing multiple notes simultaneously. Also, concerning her dark tone, The Fairy Voice Mother pointed out "She has a MASSIVE larynx"!
