Great Video! Great Commentary! rooting for him,... looking the best I've ever seen him since he came to Iowa, and that's saying a lot because he's been so great for so long. hope he keeps it going in Paris. Lets Go!
@ScissorVixens3 ай бұрын
Born and raised in Pa. (and starting wrestling in 3rd grade)...I had no idea that I was competing in the most dominant wrestling state in the country until after I graduated high school and moved to another state for college. Whenever I mentioned I wrestled in Pa. I always got a 'that is one tough state for wrestling!' kind of comment. And I'm proud to say I was dominant myself at 105 going 50-0 (that included dual meets and many tournaments) my 9th grade year but then injuries started to pile up once I hit high school which kept me from competing in states my last two years. I had a teammate (who never beat me in a match) finish 2nd in states but had to wrestle one of the most dominant Pa. wrestlers at that time...Jack Cuvo. I did give a kid by the name of Jim Martin all he could handle the 3 times we wrestled...our last match being the most competitive. Jim Martin still holds the Penn State record for most career wins to this day of 8/1/2024. As for Spencer...I have no idea why he decided to go to Iowa instead of Penn State (kinda annoys the hell out of me!) but I'll definitely be rooting for him, and the rest Team USA, in the Olympics.

You can’t tell me that all the cutting weight he did when he was younger And the constant grind of year around wrestling, did not affect his ability to stay healthy. Fingers crossed the senior level, allows him to rebuild his body and stay healthy because I love watching him bang on the mat! I’m impressed with the younger crop of coaches coming up that are starting to stress the importance of rest days. Something most of us growing in the sport had no comprehension of!

Woah now, don’t let the old timers hear you talk about rest days. You don’t wanna be called a soft snowflake do you?

He didn't cut a lot of weight, when he was younger. I agree with the rest day comment.
@Zoomer-te9us3 ай бұрын
Rest days minimize the amount of drugs the kids end up pumping themselves full of. If you train thru injury and don’t rest, those drugs hit all the harder when they take their first hit and then lights out.

@@JS45678 you’re wrong. Lee turned every opponent he’s had in Sr freestyle, bar none. One match against Nico thie year he didn’t, but he did the other 2. He’s turned every international wrestler all the way back to cadets, except for one in his first year as a cadet. That includes Gilman, Thomasello, Araujo, Richards, lilledahl, Cruz, etc. What’s more, in 104 matches in college, he got back points ( harder than just a turn in freestyle) on all but 4 opponents he faced: Bresser(6 matches into his collleg career, coming off surgery and still hadn’t taken off his redshirt), Suriano, Courtney( with a torn ACL), and Muller( tore an ACL in that match and actually turned him but the clock ran out before he could get a count). That’s it. Only Gene Mills, and Zain close behinet, were near him in par terre in college, not Schultz. In Freestyle, he’s turned everyone( a couple matches, maybe three, without a turn, but every OPPONENT he’s faced he turned). Schultz can’t come close to that, he also lost quite a bit. In a 14 yr career career, he won 1 WC and 1 O gold….lost to someone every other year, including at the Goodwill games and the Pan Ams. Lee has never lost a Sr. freestyle match and hasn’t lost in freestyle at all at his own weight class since he was a first year cadet in 2013!

Spencer Richard Lee (born October 14, 1998) is an American freestyle and former folk style wrestler who competes at 57 kilograms.[2] In freestyle, he is qualified for the 2024 Summer Olympics, and has been a Pan American champion, a two-time US National champion and a three-time age-group World champion, once in the U-17 level and twice in the U-20 level.[3] In folk style, Lee won the James E. Sullivan Award and the Dan Hodge Trophy twice, as well as three NCAA Division I national championships out of the University of Iowa. Lee was often considered one of the most dominant athletes in college athletics.

Having torn 2 acl in the same knee,I can tell ya,what Spencer did is probably unprecedented!A little different for me,as I tore the second time,with in 4 months!I I was a foreman and required little bending- physical,yet I missed over a year of work,tried but it was to much! What he's done is incredible! USA top Olympic wrestler,by getting silver,yet still not satisfied. Think he shuts it down for a year,maybe 2 and returns for Gold in 2028! Whats fantastic for most,doesn't work for him! Hoping he stays at Iowa for his coaching career!

@LakeNonaFan3 ай бұрын
yeah probably after his first title but we don't know. If everything christian is saying is correct, he threw the word "state" in there, which is weird because it indeed implies he got surgery after high school. Then again christian also mistakenly said "third" ncaa title instead of "fourth," so it's possible he got his words mixed up here too. I'm thinking it was after high school because he looked good against suriano
