I am not a fan of Penn State's school by any means. In fact, I find their fan base annoying. I am from PA though so I do enjoy seeing their success and I am a fan of Mr. Sanderson, though. His biggest asset is that he is a very reserved guy and does not seem full of himself. I remember attending the Pittsburgh Wrestling Classic between 2012-2018 and, if he was there, he and brother Cody snuck in the back and sat in the upper deck nose bleeds. His choices remind me of a lesson in life- sometimes people choose to take a seat of humility versus walking in somewhere and wanting the red carpet laid out. We need more people like Cael. Growing up in PA, I went to clinics at different universities and went to tournaments from age 5 until I graduated high school. I saw a lot of the same type of coach or mentor wherever I went. I also saw young kids aspiring to be like them and mold into their type. I can see that Cael does something different. If he is truly different from what I saw growing up, and by no means am I saying he is perfect, I bet to a degree he does not take part in fitting in with his athletes outside of the wrestling room. Penn State has a huge student body and a lot of choices regarding outside entertainment. If you get lost in it, your wrestling will follow. From the moment a top recruit steps foot on campus, every choice they make will affect their physical and mental performance. I would say Cael makes this very clear.

@@realmichaelcomeau I think Cael is such a big name that a lot of these good kids want to go to psu just for him, and PA is like the American wrestling epicenter with a lot of the top wrestlers coming from PA ,so with the history it would just make sense for the school to be good

As others have mentioned, PA is a hotbed for high school wrestling. Wrestling in PA is generational and cultural. Many outside observers, alum and internal PSU staff knew that the college wrestling program underachieved to it’s potential. I read somewhere the following analogy: many knew where the oil was but did not know how to tap into it. PSU officials saw Cael as the catalyst to tap into it and Cael had vision and a plan on how to tap into it. The rest is ongoing history.

Never was a fan of the Jenkins mouth because it wasn't honest. Arrogant, but most importantly dishonest. His attitude and behaviors were about him, distracting to the focus, and the grades that eliminated his availability for a semester are his doing. It wasn't that he wasn't good enough to be there for a year. Best thing that happened to him too, because if he stayed and wrestled Taylor everyday, Taylor was positioned to take over and beat him out or send him down a weight class. Simple as that. He caught David, and it is what it is. But that didn't make the decision wrong. Taylor was the better wrestler for the program and Jenkins did screw up his place at PSU. That's on him. There wasn't a redemption arc. And he still never learned humility. I cannot support Jenkins on any level frankly. More power to him in his career in MMA and life and such...but I cannot get behind him. Cael made the right decision moving on from him. There was no follow up validation needed, nor anything Jenkins could do to overcome that and prove him wrong. Jenkins needed to go no matter how good of a tournament he would have at the NCAAs. And he's sorta still living off of that success, which isn't good.

Penn State gets the top recruiting class year after year. Also, now the transfer portal has the potential to build even a more dominant team. Gable at Iowa in his 21 years I believe had 3 number 1 recruiting class. Cael and Penn State will most likely surpass Gable and Iowa as the most dominant team and coach however, I think this needs to be considered.
