Reminds me of the Korean proverb: "발 없는 말이 천 리 간다." It translates to "A horse without feet travels a thousand miles." In Korean, the terms for "word" and "horse" are spelt and pronounced exactly the same - "말", pronounced "mal". So in a sense, it's a pun that a "horse without feet" aka "words" travel much faster and farther than actual horses.

In Hindu mythology, God Shiva and his wife Goddess Parvati told their two sons Ganesha and Kumara to race each other around the world in order to win a special prize. Kumara dashed off at once. Clever Ganesha, on the other hand, merely walked in a circle around his parents, claiming that as his parents, they were indeed his world. Suitably flattered, they awarded the prize to Ganesha. So, yeah, it's not always brute speed that wins.

@@mohjaelshafi981 No, he only really appears in one story as far as I know, as part of an ensemble of unbeatable competitors for Thor and his companions.
@gabrielgarcia7554 Жыл бұрын
@mohjaelshafi981 Hugi and huginn have the same root of hugi which means thought but are not the same characters but perform related functions. Hugi appears in the story about Útgarða-Loki in the Prose Edda. This is where Thor, Loki, Thor’s child slaves Thjalfi and Röskva eventually end up in the castle of Útgarða-Loki where they have to compete in several games against different opponents who turn out to be various personifications of abstract concepts or physical entities. Such as thought, old age, fire, etc. With regards to Hugi, Thialfi is set to race against Hugi but loses as it is revealed that Útgarða-Loki used magic to set them up against undefeatable opponents. Nothing is faster than thought so therefore Thjalfi would never be able to win. Other little competitions occur such as Thor drinking mead from a goblet but it is impossible to finish drinking (it turns out it is the ocean he is drinking), Loki engaging in an eating competition against Logi (who is the personification of fire, all consuming, therefore he loses), Thor failing to pick up a cat but it is the Midgard serpent Jormungandr. It is a good story and I recommend you read it, I think TED-ED even has an episode on this one.

Savitra in Hindu Mythology is one of the many names of the Sun. However seasoned philosphers and readers of Hindu Puranas will quickly tell you that Savitra is not merely the Sun. He is actually the God of Light. He is the force that creates stars and produces light, energy and travels across the universe bringing health, happiness and also knowledge. The famous Gayatri Mantra that is dedicated to Savitra is a tiny prayer that says "O Savitra, may you always enlighten me with knowledge of everything that there is." Its often confusing sometimes because we also have a Goddess of Knowledge- Saraswati. But she is more associated with learning. She is also associated with arts and literature and power of gaining every knowledge that exists. Savitra is associated with bringing that knowledge to the worshiper. If you read this as a scientist, you can easily tell why. While knowledge can exist in a document on your computer, for sending it to another device you'll need a signal of light. THAT is what Savitra is associated with- all the light waves that help transferring information from one place to another. Only with light are we able to see the Universe. We are able to work with it, analyse it and understand the reality. So Savitra is not just a star that we live with. He is the God of Light and the Bringer of Knowledge. And as we all know nothing can be faster than light. However, in Mahabharata there is an instance when somebody went faster than light. In the Virata Parva, Arjun is mentioned to have used a heavenly weapon/device that stopped time and made all the warriors on the enemy side stand like statues. Arjun moved amidst them, grabbed their shawls while they were stuck in their places, and then released them to show they've been defeated. Interestingly, it is also mentioned that one of those great warriors, their great grandsire Bheeshma who was a highly esteemed and learned man, powerful enough to defeat the world, could see Arjun move. Arjun noticed Bheeshma's eyes follow him. Do you remember that scene from Justice League where the Flash runs fast but Superman notices? Yeah, that's mentioned in Mahabharata, only its with Arjun and Bheeshma. Now as a person who absolutely loves the topic of light and its curious powers, I can say, (which any scientist would agree), that this feat is possible only if you go faster than light. When you go faster than light, the world actually seems to stop wherever it is. In reality if you ever achieve that much speed, you would be horrified to see that you aren't moving even though you would have crossed quite a distance.

Let me explain to you. Savitur is one of the solar deities of Vedic texts in Hinduism. Rigveda the oldest Hindu text is very different from puranas which later came. In it Indra is the most revered and strongest god not Vishnu, Shiva or Brahma. Also savitur is different from Surya itself. Savitur represents the vivifying power of the sun which gives energy to creatures and makes them compel to move and work. It is one of the solar deities which make the Vedic sun i.e Surya. In puranas, savitur became another name of the sun which is not the case before.

Savitar is a good choice as most of the other Gods are basically the speed of sound being as fast as thunder or even lightning But the concept Savitar controls motion itself, means he can manipulate speed itself, making others or in theory himself as fast or slow as he wants Still seems to be a good reason why Hermes was a commentator instead of competitor Because among his roles, Hermes guides the dead to the Underworld, in theory being so fast he can be anywhere at once guiding everyone that dies each second, as it’s only one of many roles he has, having so many he’s practically a Pantheon himself Still it’s unknown whether it compares to Savitar, as Hermes role at times is beyond the physical, but it’s still safe to say if Hermes competed he would have been in the top 3 himself
