Also a quick note, all of the glubs waiting until the final week before sectionals to plan out what songs they're gonna sing pisses me off. Like no?????? You pick those songs out at the very beginning of the school year and you rehearse, pretty much nonstop, and this is just for a choir, where you don't even dance most of the time. Singing and dancing together is such a tiring activity, there is no way in hell they're doing all of that preparation in a week.

The religion episode pisses me off so bad, because no one respects Kurt’s beliefs and goes out of their way to pray for Burt against Kurt’s wishes, and in the end it’s framed that Kurt was in the wrong for not accepting the prayers, when they were disrespecting him the whole time!
@britnicox3929Ай бұрын
Right? Mercedes literally was going to cut off their friendship if he did not accept her religious beliefs
@darureАй бұрын
Seriously! Mercedes invites him to church after he's made his feelings clear multiple times. At that point I would just feel like she's trying to rile me up on purpose. Instead, Kurt gracefully accepts, still taking it as a kind gesture. And even THEN she calls him out in the middle of the church and shames him for his beliefs. Like what the hell?? Is this just how America is or what... It would be disrespectful enough, but on top of it all, it's KURT's dad who's potentially dying! And somehow he's the one who's supposed to be catering to everyone else's feelings???
@omniscient.nescienceАй бұрын

3:45:38 ok so while Baby It’s Cold Outside sounds super creepy now, the original meaning actually was playful and flirty. It’s about a couple who really want to fuck and are trying to dance around the societal stigma against a woman having premarital sex in the 1940s Lines like ‘what’s in this drink’ isn’t her implying something dodgy was in the drink, it was a saying that women would use in the 40s to hook up with a guy then avoid social judgement by blaming it on alcohol. The girl in the song was absolutely into it, she just had to avoid seeming too enthusiastic to protect her reputation. It’s a song that’s fun and cute in its historical context, but it doesn’t hold up so much nowadays I’d actually argue that, for the early 2010s, two guys who are into each other but aren’t ready to confess is probably the best way to adapt the song
@BladesPrincess2 ай бұрын
Oh wow! Thats really intresting to know!

THANK YOU 😭 it’s so frustrating that this song has been morphed into the exact opposite of the purpose!! But modern listeners are painting her as an unwilling victim completely robbing her of her original agency.
@seafairyclips2 ай бұрын
I didn't really know the song was really about sex at all but I also always saw it as pretty much what the song said exactly. She needs to go home, but it's cold and the roads are probably frozen and it would just be safer for her to stay with the guy.

Making literally anybody else trans would've been better. She had her own important message to deliver about gender. I also hated that she had to have the domestic abuse arc. Like kinda I get it that it's saying you can be abused even if you're tough or "masculine"... But I kinda wanted her to just find love like she never had before.
@omniscient.nescienceАй бұрын
Yeah, as a trans person myself, that plotline never really hit with me. So much of Beiste's arcs previously were about embracing femininity despite society not seeing you as being a 'correct' woman/balancing your desire to be feminine with surviving in a male-dominated career. Like, I respect other trans people who vibe with their character for whatever reason, but to me them resolving their arc with 'he was a trans guy all along' never made much narrative sense.

I have kinda an unpopular opinion on this but Santana goes to Holly and is like "I'm attracted to both men and women" and Holly basically tells her to pick one with the "who do you love tho" question which is kinda dumb because Santana is a teenager and when I was that age I hadn't fallen in love with a single person (which would be a better point if I wasn't somewhat aro ace but I know I'm not alone) but she'd only been in love with a woman so she just decides to be a lesbian from there on out despite saying she was attracted to men. Maybe she realized she wasn't actually attracted to men but that was a dumb way to have her come to that conclusion because love and sexual attraction are not the same thing.

Exposure therapy IS how you treat OCD but the participant has to be willing to experience the therapy or else you re-enforce the fears that cause the compulsions in the first place. When Emma dated John Stamos, she seemed scared and apprehensive BUT willing to go along with his suggestions (dirty theater, etc) whereas Will tends to surprise her in inappropriate places. This would be NOT GOOD for her ocd! Sometimes exposure therapy makes me shake and cry and I need 15+ minutes of cooldown, that is not appropriate for a work setting!!
@brigettelancome4063Ай бұрын
this part!!!
@kataminedj5 күн бұрын
Yeah Karl (John Stamos) actually made her better not because he exposed her, but because he made her feel safe. He had no ulterior motives for her to get better, he genuinely just wanted his girlfriend to have a nice time. And when her symptoms do come up he doesn't treat them as a huge deal, which makes OCD not feel like a big deal. Shame is such a core part of OCD, as it's usually shame which drives our thoughts (I forgot to switch the lights 7 times I'm awful and a pedo and that's why my dad is going to die and it's all my fault). John Stamos saying "aw look I love how you get when I change your routine" while it could come off as condescending, I think he's trying to make it clear to emma that her anxieties don't scare him, and that they aren't as big a deal and she adjusts pretty quickly. Like after that she relaxes a ton. They work insanely well as a couple so it makes really no sense for her to pine after Will. Will is a creepy, narcissistic control freak in season 2 and it's so bad for her. Instead of trying to force her out of her comfort zone into physical intimacy, Karl ends the relationship (also because of her feelings towards someone else) which is a much healthier way that Will dealt with blue balls in season 1, which was to cheat on emma and force her to overcome ocd before she was ready.

I'm surprised Puck didn't get any gloints for his vasectomy. As someone who does have to worry about getting pregnant, I find a lot of guys don't care about using protection since they're not the one whose lives and bodies will be impacted. Since Puck is underage, the doctor who performed the procedure is probably very sketchy which would take extra bravery and commitment on his end to follow through despite the increased risk. In a society where there are grown men who refuse to wear condoms, I think Puck sacrificing his savings and taking the responsibility for birth control onto himself as a man shows a lot of initiative and responsibility (ESPECIALLY for a sixteen year old!!!) and this is a morally selfless act that deserves to be recognised by the gloint system.

Not to mention Kurt literally just had two plots where he a) tried to be straight, b) had to change schools, and c) had a crush crisis in terms of Blaine's crush. If after all that Burt walks in on a guy in Kurt's bed with them hung over I think Burt is reasonable to feel distressed. Plus I feel like him and Finn's mom handle parenting very differently (while neither are horrible I do think Burt is better)

I may be wrong but iirc this is a first watchthrough after season 1? I think that was mentioned in the season 1 videos and some predictions in this one may seem like snide jabs at the writing but they seem to be legitimate predictions that happen to fall in with the predictable writing, see the mention of Toxic before it's performed in 2x2. Karofsky being relevant past season 2 isn't the easiest guess (I didn't know about the Cough Syrup scene or his season 6 arc when I was watching), especially since he's first introduced as a throwaway background character (hell he was on the hockey team in season 1). He is recurring enough that he could have warranted scoring for this season on its own though.

So some extra context on the weird Finn/Kurt walk back on the slur plotline. The Glee Writers were very "reactive" to fandom discourse to a fault, where they would re-address their own plot points or character writing to coincide with what was popular with the fanbase. One of the most arguably famous or infamous examples of this is the Brittany and Santana ship. Writers made them a couple and kind of bent over backwards in-universe to make it happen with Brittany cheating on Artie and the Artie being the bad guy for it because the ship became popular with fans. Well back to Finn and Kurt. The resolution to that plotline in season 1 had really mixed reaction online. People really loved Burt but one of the common criticisms of season 1 was that the show never properly addressed Kurt's attempt seduction of Finn and this final result of them now seemingly walking everything back felt like the writers awkwardly trying to overcorrect for this.

2:21:26 Funnily enough, Darren did have a brother in the entertainment industry. Charles "Chuck" Criss was a member of the band Freelance Whales, and Chuck wrote and performed a lot of the music for Little White Lie, which was a mini series made by students of the University Of Michigan in 2007. It was created and written by Nick Lang, Matt Lang, Brian Holden, and Darren Criss, and you can find it on KZbin. The same 4 men would go on to form Team Starkid and write A Very Potter Musical alongside AJ Holmes.

This is one of those shows where people are like “oh it was just a different time” but then you see that Mad Men came out at the same time which is very feminist and one of the best dramas ever so it really just makes me hate ryan murphy even more because he just felt like he could get away with all the phobia in the show. I especially feel bad for Amber Riley Mercedes’s actor as her character is reduced to fat jokes and “sassy black woman.” I think on the glee podcast they broke down how many micro aggressions were in the “hell to the no song” it’s really bad.

I almost wish Glee had come out around now because I could totally see Rachel having a plot involving a Chappell Roan episode where she demands to perform Pink Pony Club as a tribute to her desire to be famous like Chappell wanted to be when she wrote the song and somehow getting away with singing all the other really gay songs on the album despite being as straight as an arrow in a back brace.

1:23:40 I’m pretty sure other people probably have commented this, however, I’m gonna add, i’m pretty sure the writers intended for Sam and Kurt to have a romantic relationship. I know there was a reason why they changed it. I’m pretty sure it was something to do with the girls having a crush on Sam onset- or something to do with implementing Blaine into the show. I’m not too sure, but yes, I’m pretty sure it was intended that Kurt finds out that Sam does actually dye his hair 😂
@SomethingCreative202 ай бұрын
Sam and Kurt were intended to date. Curt Mega (who played Nick the Warbler, who sung Uptown Girl in Season 3) confirmed he auditioned for a Sam who was a love interest for Kurt. Jane Lynch leaked these plans to the press, so it was rewritten to have Sam date Quinn because the writers felt Dianna and Chord had great chemistry. Blaine was intended to be a platonic queer mentor for Kurt. This is why the character is a year older in Season 2, but they are the same age in Season 3. They essentially gave Blaine the plans they had for Sam and made Sam Finn 2.0.

Also, according to Naya Rivera’s book, she didn’t pick up on any signs that Mark had issues with certain content, whilst she was in a relationship with him, however she did also say she wasn’t surprised. There are a lot of rumours going about that. Mark was going to do a plea deal where he would expose others that gave him the content within the industry but then he miraculously died and therefore a lot of people got away with it. Not sure if this is true, but it’s interesting

What gets me about their production of Rocky Horror as a person who directs theatre isn’t even how fast the set, costumes, and Choreo were put together because as we’ve established the glee club apparently has magic little set and costume elves that operate on their own system of time. It’s that Will either somehow got the licensing expedited somehow or that he was producing the show illegally and the entire news crew storyline didn’t try to use that as a talking point for their anti-woke agenda. There’s like a process to not only getting the show licensed and like making an agreement with the licensing company but also the time it takes to like get materials sent over and especially because they’re doing it through the school like district approval and stuff. And then there’s the matter of them cutting so much from the show and making a lot of changes to lines and such cause that’s illegal. In small doses it usually doesn’t matter but on that scale that would once again be something that would’ve been useful for the people who hired Sue to like mention.

Naya's acting when confessing to Brittney is everything honestly, and for one of her first big emotional scenes it's stunning. And while you can say whatever you want about Quinn as a character, the scene with her and Rachel in the auditorium where Quinn is telling Rachel "hey, i'm going to be stuck here in a sham of a marriage like my parents while you go off and live out your dream in New York" is some of my favorite acting from Diana Agron. I genuinely love her acting so much.
