I feel like Wesley was a kid in an unearned privileged position who was often placed in situations that were more about showing off his genius rather than developing meaningful relationships or exploring deeper emotional or moral complexities. He felt a bit too perfect, and that doesn't sit well with my preference for authenticity, depth, and emotional complexity in characters. He's the Chidi Anagonye or Rory Gilmore of space 😂

TNG writers hated Geordi.😢 MIA mother, DNA monster, Alien dog killer.. Logically the computer would have known Leah's marital sratus and psyche profile to not kiss Geordi. Best episodes: The Mind's Eye, I Borg, The Enemy. The Next Phase.

I want to tell you, guys, that I your channel got recommended to me yesterday and I've been enjoying it thoroughly. I will admit that I bristled in the beginning, with the choice of Geordi, and then of Beverly, but as I listened, I began to realize that I agreed with many of the points. My personal choice may be controversial as well, but I've never been a fan of Q. I enjoyed some of the humor and John DeLancie was, undeniably, phenomenal in the role. However, an omnipotent character just always chafed at me. A friend of ours has been watching TNG on her channel and when she expressed a negative opinion of Doctor Pulaski, folks really came after her in the comments. Apparently, a lot of people share your opinion that she was a better written doctor. Unfortunately, many of those folks didn't share your tact when speaking. Some folks also came after our friend hard when she was uncomfortable with the Doctor Leah Brahms episode. Personally, I feel that the episode failed to do a good job of showing that what took place was a violation. The folks in the comments felt that a woman in Dr. Brahms' shoes should have felt flattered that someone would do that to her. An interesting perspective. On the subject of Wesley, I don't subscribe to the hate of the character. I agree that as a kid he was bound to be annoying at times. I feel that his character added levity when needed and provided comedy. I really enjoyed The Dauphin as it was an all-around cute episode.

Raptor: Thank you for your kind words and lengthy response ^^ and im glad you found the reccomendation a good one. Q was oddly enough on my list as a possiable bad character, due to him going from genuine threat to more of a comedy role not to mention the issue of him being totally omnipotent. And yes the fandom can be somewhat abrasive when you have an opinion that doesnt match the majourity. Thats ok if folks are respectful but a lot of the time they arent which is a shame. Me and michael have had some very harsh responses already heh

Troi's mom is the worst. Her episodes are just so bad. I think that one meme of Picard intensely jesticulating toward the bridge view screen is from one of her episodes.

I don't disagree with the majority of this actually. Controversial, perhaps, with the first one, kinda. The 2nd is probably where I'm agreeing the most. Not their biggest fan, in fact I said the same point raptor did about the replacement in that role on the ship. I liked them better. Being all cryptic on purpose so as not to give it all away.

In the words of Isaac Newton, 'How dare you?!' How dare you dislike any TNG character! Hehe 😄 I don't dislike the TNG characters. I used to think Lwaxana Troi was annoying in the first and second series of TNG. But I love her especially in episodes 'Half A Life' and 'Cost Of Living'. I detest the despicable Pakleds. Particularly in series 2 episode, 'Samaritan Snare'. They pretend to be helpless but then they phaser Geordi. Riker should have sent a security escort with Geordi.

I felt Troi was the worst character. They never gave her any roles or development but her one trick. She really could have filled in the McCoy dynamic. In touch with the human side of major decisions and events. Her counselor position could have been the liaison between the crew and the captain. She also could have been an informal friendly ear like Guinan became as bartender.

Raptor: I agree. I do think they tried to do more with her in later season episodes such as her learning about command and having to send people to their deaths, but I agree that I think there was a lot of possibilities, especially for someone with her abilities.

For me its Troi. Nothing against the actress but she rarely had anything to do in the show, she often is on the bridge without any real reason to and whenever we do see her do her job as a psychologist, she doesn't seem to be particularly competent.

I would never want anyone taken away - because they are all important as an ensemble - but my least favorite was always Geordi. I always skip Geordi heavy episodes (you mentioned Miles - I skip DS9 Miles episodes too). Honestly, I never liked Data either. I found his schtick too “theater kid” (but I don’t skip Data episodes because the episodes are usually compelling). Everyone seems to dislike Deanna but I found her to be so camp, I liked her. Same with her mom. Camp is my thing.

DIana Muldaur was a Roddenberry favorite. He used her in project after project from Star Trek TOS, through various failed '70s projects, and when TNG (still stuck in 1968) suddenly had a problem with female actors who weren't doormats, they ran back to mama and called in old faithful, Muldaur. And wrote her as a TOS character. And when the feedback was inevitably poor, they jettisoned her down the memory hole.
