Glen Campbell is arguably one of the greatest guitarists/entertainers of all time. He played with the legendary LA Wrecking Crew, had a variety show of his own, he had it all…. Alice Cooper says Eddie Van Hansen asked if he could get him a guitar lesson with Glen, that’s how good and respected it he was. Wichita Lineman is probably his most famous song, if you react to it, don’t to the original studio version, but the Sioux Falls version with the orchestra. Epic

Glenn got his big jump off to fame when he was a studio musician, one of the most respected in the field for his guitar play, even the most well-known famous players of his day tipped their hats to him and his play, one day a stage talent asked him how he would play a song and Glenn showed him , the other musician was so impressed he let Glenn have it and it was released , the record took off like wild fire and thus began the more visible aspect of Glenns fame , he released many hits and had a few variety shows that drew large audiences, later towards the end of his career drinking got the best of him at times but in my mind he was and is a great guitar player with a lot of feel.

Glen Campbell is one of the most recorded guitar players in history. Thousands of recording sessions, including rock, pop, country, easy listening, and the list goes on. Years ago, when VH1 published a list of their 100 greatest hits of Rock and Roll, it turned out that Glen Campbell had played on something like 30 of them (I forget the exact number). Yes, he was a great singer and had some big country hits. But first and foremost, he was a fantastic guitar player.

So much talent in this video clip showing so many of the country greats! I grew up listening to Glen Campbell's music. He was one of the most talented entertainers & guitarists in the world. He was also a great singer. He had a lot of hits such as "By the Time I Get To Phoenix", "Wichita Lineman", "Dreams Of The Everyday Housewife", "Galveston", "Try A Little Kindness", "Rhinestone Cowboy", "Southern Nights" etc. Sadly he got Alzheimer's later in life. The last song he recorded was "I'm Not Gonna Miss You".

This is from a show called "Familys Country Reunion." They talked & sang their hits. They did many shows throughout the years. A lot of them were hosted by the Legendary Whispering(nick name) Bill Anderson, a famous country singer/songwriter. This episode is hosted by Ralph Emery. Host of his own radio show, tv shows, "Pop goes the country," & "Nashville Now." Each episode is full of the Legends of country music. The Lady sitting next to Glen is Crystal Gayle, who is Loretta Lynns baby sister. Her signature song is, "Don't it make my brown eyes blue." She is known for her ankle long hair. The guy next to Glen, talking to him, is Ray Stevens(The Streak & Mississippi Squirrel Revival). Roy Clark & Chet Atkins are also there. Like Glen these guys are some of the greatest guitar players in country music(also including Jerry Reed. Not in this clip). Watch Glen & Roy play the same guitar at the same time together. So many greats here. Most of them have left us now. I noticed someone told you who they were. I could tell you more, but this is getting long. Have fun discovering each of these artists!

Glen was self-taught ... never had a lesson but was one of the most revered guitarists on the planet. He was, like most in it, a member of the famous The Wrecking Crew, a loosely formed group of session musicians that played all the great sounds and catchy beats that made all artists famous back in the 50's and 60's. Glen also went on to, not only do some of the session work for the Beach Boys, but also toured with them for a time or two. Quite an accomplishment for a self-taught musician.

Glen Campbell was one of the premier guitar players in 20th century music. He was also blessed with an amazing voice. Growing up in the late 60s and early 70s we were all aware of Glen from his popular television variety show. We weren't country music folk in the New England area, but we all watched Glen's show, and many were introduced to country music through his show and also Johnny Cash's show that was popular around the same time. Before becoming a solo performer Glen was a top session guitarist who recorded on some of the top singles and albums of the 1960s, across all genres rock, pop, soul, country. The man could do it all, but he was a country boy from Arkansas through and through.

There you go. Studio musician with The Wrecking Crew for many years. Was a substitute member of The Beach Boys, filling in for Brian Wilson for 4 months in 1964-65. In the late '60s, became a headline artist in his own right. His breakout songs were the one you just watched (written by John Hartford) and "By the Time I Get to Phoenix" (written by Jimmy Webb). He had his own TV show for a while. For fun, find a vid of him doing an instrumental duet with Roy Clark, or one of him playing part of The William Tell Overture with the guitar slung up over the back of his head.

Glen was both pop and country music, his outgoing personality won over all kinds of people. His link up wit songwriter Jimmy Webb was a blessing. This was one of my mom's favorite songs, every time I sing it I think of her and me watch the Glen Campbell Show together from about 1968 to 1972. Glen brought mom and I together in that way, now a very special memory of her.

Glenn's Hit record of this song was done slower and with a much more romantic treatment. That room was full of the most famous Country Stars of the 70's and 80's. Roy Clark was there and Willie Nelson and others. Glenn was famous for love songs like this one and "Wichita Line Man" and "Lady". Cheers.

Before Glen was a star in his own right, he was a member of "The Wrecking Crew", a legendary group of studio musicians, based in Los Angeles, CA. (Check out "The Wrecking Crew" documentary). His guitar, and the crew, were featured on thousands of 60s and 70s pop and easy listening hits, backing many big name singing stars and groups. In the late 60s, Glen got his big break. His monster hits, which were also featured on best selling albums, including this song, were, "By The Time I Get To Phoenix", "Wichita Lineman" and "Galveston". He had comeback hits in the mid and late 70s such as, "Rhinestone Cowboy" and "Country Boy". He was a guitar virtuoso. I recommend his concert video - Live from Sioux Falls, SD, 2001. He continued to tour until he was no longer able. Sadly, Glen passed away in 2017, from Alzheimer's Disease.

Aside from Glen being a singer and top notch world class guitar player who could not read music, he was studio musician for a long time in LA.[A member of the "Wrecking Crew," [the nickname given to the group of studio musicians who played on countless records and albums, TV show themes and movie themes, commercials] who played on all kinds of records from the Beach Boys to Frank Sinatra ["Who!?" you ask - Oh no more rabbit holes to down into!!]. He even toured with the beach boys for a few months because their leader and songwriter Brian Wilson was not doing well mentally on the road. Glen even sang backup with other guys on records including several Ricky Nelson hits in the early 1960's. Ricky who? Oh crap! not again! Rabbit hole!!!! lol
