I thought you were an engineer just because of the way you seem so familiar, and at ease, when you describe various components. Very cool that you are self taught.

After thirty years in the industry, I can tell you there are two types of engineer... those who went into it for the paycheck - they tend to be competent but nothing more, and then there are those who went into engineering because they have an innate talent and passion for it. Those are far less common, but worth their weight in gold.

I think an argument can be made that he IS an engineer. Just because he doesn't have a piece of paper saying he is, doesn't mean he's not. But I totally get what you're saying - the world revolves around pieces of paper, oftentimes to the detriment of society.

One of the things I most appreciate about you and the channel is your genuine desire to share and teach. Your videos are clear, concise and well paced. I appreciate you not trying to impress us with video skills; it's about the content. Humble, forthright, and down to earth, you're a breathe of fresh air. Keep up the good work; and if it becomes too much like work, dial it back. Appreciate all you do.

I am a hobby woodworker and love being in the shop. I stumbled upon your channel several years ago and I have watched a lot of your videos. A lot of things that you get excited about I do as well. I am astonished at learning how things work. Now a disclaimer must be made right here, I am not even in the same universe as your intelligence with engineering at all, but I know I can learn. I am not going to be a CAD artist or an engineer at anytime but I do love coming to channels like yours where a person like me who has limited knowledge of the subject coming into it but at the end of the video can leave with a smile because I have learned something new. That to me is what KZbin should be all about. I just wanted to say that you are a blessing and I appreciate what you do and the time you take to make these videos. This world needs more people like you my friend. God bless you and have a wonderful day.

As a prior, military trained Master Electronics/Avionics Tech, National Bureau of Standards Lab Rat, current Electrician and lifelong inventor, your Engineer friend was right. You have a gift. An expression I coined in the early 70's is very appropriate for you as you show immense imagination as well as curiosity coupled with the ability to research and learn. Back then I wrote: If Necessity Is The Mother Of Invention, Then Imagination Is The Father Of Progress.

Begging is asking for something for nothing. Producing videos is work (I've made a few). Putting your work out there and saying, "Hey, support this if you would like to do so," is providing folks with the OPPORTUNITY to reimburse you for the value you have given. It's a relationship something like public television or public radio. Go for it.

You are an incredible man. I look up to you. Your humility is the same as that is mine. I just found me a treadmill that’s going to contribute to my education and perks that I put together, watching you sir and emulating. My father once said to me “ in your younger years never seek shade from a younger tree, instead seek from a big tree.” Thanks for the Shade big brother keep doing what you do because it’s inspiring. I was medically retired from the Marine Corps at 18yrs 10 months and 23 days on active duty. I was injured in Afghanistan and that’s what did it, severe ptsd with a traumatic brain injury ant their symptoms. The reason why I mentioned this is because I was in a dark place. What kind of still I am, but I really, and your video helped a lot. I find it very therapeutical so again thank you your wisdom is the my shade. Respectfully Jesse

I stumbled across your site today by doing the opposite of what people on the net were saying about KZbin's annoying recommendations feature. They were saying turn off video watching history. I turned it on because I figured KZbin's algorithms are based on what I've watched and sure enough everything changed properly. It was then that I saw your post on engineering for woodworking and that interests me a whole lot and so I clicked and then subscribed. I thank you for your work, you're literally everything I've been looking for with increasing my wood working skills.

I agree. At his age I was driven and didn't care about making money. I would spend 24h a day at my job (sometimes but 10h days was not uncommon) to get something done right BUT life hit me hard and I never recovered. I lost my career and after looking at the modern IT field I am glad it is gone (let Asia have it). I still tinker and I love learning something new so I still have his drive but the passion died I think, or should I say life beat it out of me. This guy has a future as he is humble and just a straight up guy.

I love what and how you do the things you do. After watching this video i just felt the need to let you know, I appreciate you and the info you share. Thank You!!

Jeremy I agree, you do have a gift, I also thought you were formally trained in Mechanical Engineering. It takes lots of time and money to do what you do. As indicated before , asking for support is not begging. You provide a fabulous service and deserve to be funded for those efforts. Keep up the great work.

The knowledge on electric motors that I've acquired while watching your videos is awesome. Very easy to grasp even for a basic mind.

So glad I came across your channel. This has to be the best channel on KZbin. I’ve always been pretty good at finding creative solutions to problems but your channel opened up a whole new world. Before this I’ve had many things i wanted to make but electric motors are so expensive. I’m a father of 2 girls and money is a little tight right now. But now I’m searching the inter webs constantly for broken equipment to snag some motors from. Thanks for making your channel. You seem like a really humble, chill guy which is a rare thing today.

Jeremy, thanks for inviting us all into your life! I think your outlook on Patreon and video making... your purpose... is a very well thought out and balanced one. I think you articulated my thoughts exactly when it comes to paid vs. free and what that purpose really should be. It might be off-topic for this video, but to put it out there before I forget... I like your ability and drive to hustle, re-purpose, recycle... or however it should be described- to support learning, experimenting with new things, improving, and just generally, “tinkering,” as you put it! I describe the scrounging part to my family as, “I am a collector of fine antiquities and oddities...” but I guess it barely changes the fact that there’s a bunch of “crap” squirreled away, in every spot I have available to me!! Your washing machine videos prompted me to salvage components from my recent bout with planned obsolescence in appliances. I saved the motor, the electromechanical drive engagement, and the stainless wash tub. That piece fits perfectly on my charcoal grille... Now, I’ve just finished my third batch of jerky. For sixty bucks I have a PID temperature controlled, jerky MACHINE- that’ll make safe, smoked jerky at 1/5 the price of a retail smoker. You never know where this shared activity will lead you! (I had no plans of smoking meat and cheese... seemed like a hassle.) Anyhow, it was great to hear that your interest and determination landed you a position in engineering! I have a very similar history, hate to see things pitched when they still have purpose, and enjoy the same shop work you do, so it’s like watching a best friend! I really like what I’ve seen so far, and I’m a bit late to the party! Best of luck going forward, and into 2018 (Have a happy New Year!) I just wanted to say thanks and keep up the great work!

Wow, you designing industrial machines and I've spent 16+years building hydraulic power supply units and the machinery they power. We specialize in pipe laying equipment, winches, and cranes for the offshore industry. I absolutly love what I do, only thing is I had to walk away for some time to enter cancer treatments. I beat the cancer but the chemo and radiation beat me. I'm still getting over the I'll side effects and hoping to be able to return to work in the near future. I keep in touch with the boss and engineers and they all want me back, in fact my tools are still locked up in the shop and their waiting on me, hope it's not much longer.

I've been a CAD Draftsman and Designer for 20 years. I really enjoy the engineering field but it is rough in Houston as most of our jobs are oil and gas related and there is very little work here currently. I'm actually trying to start up a wood workings business to supplement some investing income. Solidworks is great software. If you don't know, many companies will have a home use license where you can use it at home. You will have to speak with your Solidworks rep. I've recently been teaching myself Fusion 360, as it's free. It's a more basic package but I can output to my CNC router I'm about to assemble. Keep on keeping on!

modsquad8u I did a google search. Fusion 360 is free for students and teachers. For the rest of us it is from £36 per month, or £276 per year.

you are like my long lost twin brother. I have always wanted to be an engineer, tried several times now to go back to school residual medical issues have held me back some. but man I love your channel and I love that you are just wanting to share with others. You give me hope and inspire me to continue to push forward.

Dude, you are the coolest. Self-taught. CAD designer by day, engineer by night. You have natural talent, and that is the root being a good engineer. Love your stuff, keep up the great work. I am a Mech Eng, but need to learn some practical electronics, and you are very helpful.

Jeremy my man..... Awesome due diligence ! I always thought you were a junker, the trash to treasure king ! awesome story I love it... I love the dollar a month aspect .. Of supporting our channels... It's truly a tribal mentality so I call everybody else who's watching your videos to think about it a dollar a month is all it takes to make a greater experience for all....Peace....

thanks for the passion and energy you put into this. I'm always glad to see someone 'bootstrap' themselves. I got to be an engineer because one university had a Co-op program that paid my way thru but learning doesn't have to happen in a classroom. Thanks for the channel.

Jeremy, I have just watched your who is this guy video, you are even more amazing than I previously believed, the fact that you are a self taught engineer is so inspiring, at 54 I am not going back to school full time, but I do have an engineering qualification albeit a minor one, hearing what you did is making me consider building on this and further exploring my options, I have a full time job,and I am moderately happy there having been with the same firm for 18 years now, which is of course not that common, I actually work for a large DIY homestore similar to your Home Depot, though we don't cover the range of interesting stuff they do as too much of our society is now consumer based, in my work I do have the opportunity to meet and work with a lot of very practical people, one of my workmates is an amateur blacksmith, another is an ex Royal Engineers guy, one of former customers has a double PHD, another is a physicist at Cambridge university, I think you get the picture it can be an interesting place to work, the laugh is most of these people consider me as a guru!, and it does make you think about how many qualifications you actually need, hearing your story I think it's more about aptitude and opportunities, so I should probably stop worrying about my qualifications, and concentrate on developing my existing skills and seeking some opportunities, thanks for your help, really glad I found your channel, you are an inspiration, in closing I will recommend you check out another great guy's KZbin channel, you may already have heard of him, I know he's heard of you, the chaps name is Tim Hunkin and he is an inventor, and has lectured in America, thanks again for your endeavours and this insight in to your background, my best wishes to you and yours keep safe Jonathan
