It was Stevie; of course I watched it all! He was a little guy with huge, powerful hands. The guitar was part of him and music flowed through him. Even in the ‘80s he was a throwback: nobody was making electric blues hits anymore! That was black guys a generation older than him doing that in the ‘50s and early ‘60s. He was 25-30 years late, but instead he sparked a blues revival. Sometimes he’d be in a sort of trance when he played and would be surprised what sounds came from himself. I’m gonna enjoy watching you discover him. There are no tricks. I saw him many times, and he really played like that. “Texas Flood”, “Little Wing”El Mocambo are shocking. Everything is great.

Stevie went to Jimi’s father and asked permission to do a cover of this song. His dad gave him Jimi’s wah pedal. Stevie is a stand up man, was very humble. R.I.P. GOAT!

@@mikezak8812 it has been written in several published books described by Jimmy Vaughan and others. He did humbly and respectfully asked Jimi's dad for permission. He didn't have to legally but out of respect he wanted to. Jimmy Vaughan opened for Jimi Hendrix in Dallas and Jimi's pedal broke. He offered to buy Jimmy Vaughan's pedal for $50 and gave Jimmy his broken pedal. So that is how SRV wound up with the pedal he had repaired and used always.

Jimmie Vaughan, Stevie’s brother, got that pedal from Hendrix when Jimmie’s band and the Jimi Hendrix Experience played the same concert in Fort Worth in 1969. I don’t know about SRV asking Jimi’s dad permission. Could be true. Stevie was very respectful.

I know you weren't asking me, but what the hell . . . I saw Hendrix twice, first time at the Shrine Auditorium in L.A., Feb, 1968 and again in 1969 at the L.A. Forum. I saw SRV and Double Trouble at the Greek Theatre in L.A. in August of 1989. I consider myself very fortunate.

Except for Peter Frampton, maybe, I've NEVER SEEN A GUITAR MAN so in tune w/the EMOTION in whatever he was playing. My first time to see him perform live was, unfortunately, my last. Dear Stevie had just gotten off drugs & was beginning the long road back. Sadly, following a later show in another state, he lost his life (in a crash into the side of a mountain). Words cannot express the sadness I felt upon hearing the news; the man & I shared a birth year & a deep appreciation for The Blues. Stevie loved Buddy Guy, but his TRUE inspiration was Albert King. You'll be blown away if you get to see a clip of the two performing TOGETHER...THE MASTER & his ADORING FAN. AXS occasionally shows a couple of programs about Stevie Ray & they include a FEAST for the eyes & ears, w/the young Stevie in various incarnations, right on up to his come-back. There are also performances on Austin City Limits, from PBS. You'll find numerous videos on KZbin, plus there are quite a few CDs out there to listen to in amazement. SRV doesn't even look at the strings when he plays...most of the time his eyes are closed....proof that the guitar was an extension of his body...he played with a feel like no other. There may never be another musician to reach the level of SRV. The combination of technical skill, and soulful feel to play the blues at this level is unmatched. He learned from the blues masters but he took it to another level.

@@KozueMegami Gary Moore was amazing in his own right, once a musician gets to this level, it is not about who is better, it is about style and personal preference....To me SRV had a sound that was unique and played effortlessly and he didn't screw up at all....never heard him miss a note....just supernatural skills.

I had the sheer luck of watching him at an open air festival in Denmark that I was going to anyway. Not so many Danes knew about him then, so the area in front of the stage wasn't very crowded. But man, did he do a show. I've been to many great concerts and this is still one of the best, ranking up there with Mike Oldfield in 1983, a couple of Jethro Tull concerts in the '90s, Peter Gabriel in 1998, and Manfred Mann's Earth Band in 1986 at another open air festival. In February I'll go watch MMEB again, if it doesn't get postponed for the second time due to Covid-19. I also had the honour of experiencing Jeff Healey live before he passed away, one of the other great blues guitarists.

57 year old man born and raised in the lower Rio Grande Valley here currently reciting in San Antonio. I have been BLESSED to have been a witness of this man’s talents in three Spring Breaks in South Padre Island Texas in the 80s and early 90s. Texas blues at its best brother. How Stevie Ray got so good: he started playing at 7, mostly self taught by listening to blues albums. He didn't know there was usually 2 guitarists (rhythm and lead), so he just learned to do both. Never learned to read music. Played constantly: middle of the night, walking around the house, in the car... Watch Look at Little Sister from this same show.

Stevie is considered one of the greatest guitarists of all time, and was my home state of Texas' own Guitar God. He was based in my area and I got the pleasure of seeing him live more times than I can actually remember. Sadly, he died young (35) in a 1990 helicopter crash.

When he was a teen he met one of the greatest blues guitarists ever and one of his idols Albert King. King had him on stage and had him go head to head. Al was coming up with rifts out of his head and stevie was able to recreate every note exactly which King gave him the respect of being a great blues guitarist, an accomplishment not easy to come by for a white dude in blues back then, especially from Albert King who viewed himself as the greatest and the rest were ok. Incredible talent we lost too soon as happens too often.

Stevie was playing an old Hendrix song. Hendrix is probably considered the greatest guitarist of his era. And Stevie is showing he can easily hang with him. Stevie Ray Vaughan was the greatest guitarist of his era until his tragic early death in a helicopter accident at 35.

I saw Stevie live 4 times. Every time I asked friends to go, they blew it off (not being familiar or open minded). Once was in Louisville,Ky at the fair. He warmed up for the Almond Brothers and only about 200 people in a 40,000 seat house. Later, he was hugely popular. Stevie used Minor 13 inverted guitar chords which is a nightmare for most marginally advanced rock players. Thankyou Sir! Now days, I catch those same friends playing Stevie on a regular basis.

Yo, Adogg. I was a dear friend of Stevie’s for a few years before we lost him. I was the stage manager for Willie Nelson’s benefit concerts for america’s farmers called Farm Aid. They are still being put on to this day. The last time I saw Stevie was when I was doing the show. I am now 69 years old and happily retired after a 40 year career. I survived show business). Stevie was the most incredible prodigy of Texas Blues who ever lived. Not one living iconoclast like Eric Clapton or Prince (and I have worked with everyone) wouldn’t say any different. Stevie was a joy I would liken to Princess Di. …and Prince. We have lost so many incredible people to show business. Luckily, you won’t have any problem finding a lot of legendary performances he left us. Look up “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” w/Prince, Tom Petty and Danhi Harrison. He is George Harrison of the Beatles son playing on the band. George wrote the song. It was performed at the rock-n-roll hall of fame. You’ll find it. Then enjoy the hours of the lasting legacy of Stevie Ray Vaughan. ♥️☮️

I had the privilege of seeing SRV onstage more than a dozen times at different points in his career and it was incredible every time. As a guitarist myself, he inspired and thrilled me at the same time. His singing packed the same amount of soul as his guitar playing and it was all 100% the real deal. That magic isn’t learned, you’re either born with it or you’re not and he surely had it in him from day one!

I had the honor of winning a pair of tickets calling in to a local radio station in Corpus Christi, Texas around 1982 to see a concert in a local small theater with George Thorogood and the Destroyers. Stevie Ray was the lead on act and I had never heard of him before. Being a long time Hendrix fan for years, I was absolutely blown away by this man’s talent and absolutely blessed to have seen him in person. Life-changing amazing performance!

Same with me, just shocked. True story... Back in LA my friend John Fox knew I loved Hendrix, so for my birthday he got us some tickets to go see Stevie Ray (who I've never heard of), at the Palladium. He just told me be ready to be blown away. Back then the Palladium had no seats you could stand anywhere so I stood like 5 feet from the stage. This guy came out and simply introduced SRV, he came out, took a big swig of Vodka, lit a cigarette, strapped on his guitar, tuned for about 5 seconds and just broke out into this insane music (the sky is crying), unlike I've never heard before. He played about an hour straight, and he never really moved from the same place he started. In between songs he took a big swig of vodka lit a cig and just kept playing with sweat running down his nose like a river. And never once did he miss a beat. I was a fan for life. One summer my brother was visiting from Salinas Calif and heard SRV was going to be playing nearby his place. So, I told him I'll pay for everything if he books everything. Not even an hour went by, when we saw the news that he died in a helicopter crash. I was so shocked, again.

I’ve watched him for many years now and believe me when I tell you that the more you watch him the more you like him. I have not seen ONE VIDEO that I can say I’m bored of even if I’ve seen it 20+ times. He has so many jaw dropping performances and I hope you get to experience them very soon. Watched to the end. Never tire of Stevie Ray, even many listenings to the same rendition of a song. Bro, he doesn't have a bad performance. There's even a KZbin video of a sound check where he shows up. they hand him his guitar and he's off into high gear from the first note at a sound check! He was like Jimi. He loved playing guitar and never took it for granted, on stage or off. Texas Flood is probably considered his signature piece, but also listen to Cold Shot and Tin Pan Alley, and anything else he played. Happy listening.

Albert King loved him like a son...called him little Stevie all his short life & NO ONE had the b$#& to ask Albert to sit in with him wen Stevie was 14...Albert said no a few times then let him in...thinking who's this upstart...Stevies brother...another great guitarist, Jimmie, thought Albert was gonna show him up or something HOWEVER Stevie said he cud do a bit of playing...an HE BLEW ALBERT away!!! Lolol they were great friends after that and loved each other daearly. Albert said in one session on youtube..."ur good but you're gonna be better & i'll be watching"...he says "wheres my little stevie" SRV smiles at him almost shyly an says "right here!" ...i love those sessions but so sad too. Albert never dreamt Stevie would b killed like he was or die before him. RIP 2 beautiful souls...💞🙏

Vaughan's strat was strung with the heaviest gauge strings you could put on an electric guitar. To play a power chord the way he did require almost god-like strength. He truly was a giant among guitar players.

AGREED! He switched to .11s after he sobered up. Said he could feel his fingers. (Still is considered pretty big) SRV forever! (Before he was sober they varied between 33s & 45s contorted the neck of his strat. Number 1 constantly had to have it reinforced. 🤘🏼

I was lucky to have seen Stevie Ray in concert in Miami, 2 weeks before he died tragically in the helicopter crash. Jeff Beck also was on the bill and I had 6th row center seats. I could literally see the sweat running down Stevie's face. RIP to one of the greatest guitarists of all time.
