a LOT of tunes from the 80's still have relevance because the same political hacks are still in charge.. The dead kennedy's dedicated songs to Diane Feinstein back in the early 80's. Those songs are still relevant because she is STILL holds that seat of power from when those songs were written.. 40 years ago..

How is 1986 the early 80s? Even their first album came out in 1984, which was the mid 80s. For some reason, I've seen several comments from people who say stuff is from the early 80s, when it's mid or late 80s. I've never seen it mistaken the other way.

Heavy metal is some of the most complex and intelligent music genres out there. Lots of people thought this was just a bunch of noise and stupid lyrics but many heavy metal bands put a lot of thought and effort into making some really intelligent music. A lot of what they play is very classically based in the arrangements and progressions as well.

Megadeth is an iconic band in the metal scene. They have influenced countless metal bands. They have a deep discography with tons of great songs. My absolute favorites are tornado of souls, hangar 18, in my darkest hour and wake up dead. The music for In my darkest hour was written after the death of metallica bassist Cliff Burton. The lyrics are about a bad relationship.

This single's video was indeed impactful. Although many Thrash videos aired (primarily) from Midnight to 3 AM on MTV's Saturday night show "Headbanger's Ball", none had yet become one of the weekday Top Ten requested videos until this release. I believe this rose to #1 on MTV's daily Top Ten, but I may be mistaken about that. Metallica had still not released a video as a sort of boycott of MTV, so the "accepted wisdom of the day" was that they would have broken this Pop Music barrier first had they done so. That notion is also supported by the explosive success of their first MTV video a bit later, "One". There is more to be said, but this answers your expressed curiosity about the video's impact at the time.

one of the cool bits of trivia of how this song came to be was that it was originally going to be like 8 minutes long. but the band's producer at the time was like "guys you've got a great anthem here if we can cut it down" and he was the only guy outside of the band that dave trusted with music decisions and rolled with it and a true icon of 80s thrash was born

Dave has some writing credits on Metallica's first album "Kill 'Em All" with a few songs on the second album "Ride The Lightning". Dave has claimed that he worked on one other song but that claim was denied by Metallica, and to be honest, I can't hear the influence. Dave's early work is very distinct and very focused on the tritones.

Eye of the Beholder by Metallica will blow your mind. It is a very prophetic song about the amount of censorship today in society. Who can dictate what you say. 🤘🎸🤘
@myfaceismyshield59637 ай бұрын
Thrash metal is the most socially conscious form of metal. And behind punkrock, probably the most socially conscious genre that exists. Thrash bands are always political and more often than not, very keen on aggressively spreading a message of anti-corruption and usually anti-fascism. Most punk is left-wing or anarchist and a lot of thrash is too, but rather than two-wing rhetoric, the point of thrash is just general anger at the status quo and historical injustice (where you get Anthrax or BodyCount for example) and lashing out at any governments and corrupt leaders and generational disputes (Megadeth, Suicidal Tendencies, Power Trip etc.). The other main point is being against religious authority (that's where you get Slayer or Suicidal Angels and all of Black Metal as a genre, starting with Venom) and being against war and militarism by making horrid descriptions laced with satire and parody (that's where you get bands like Sacred Reich, S.O.D. and Sodom...) Some of it is also just against the music industry. Mainly against censorship. A lot of 80's thrash metal artists recall trying to come up with the most messed up lyrics they could, just to push the boundaries of what you're allowed to say on a song. That mentality eventually leads to brutal death metal of course. Thrash is always political in some way, but it's always under so many layers of irony and parody that nobody can call the bands out on it, and that's the spirit of all punk metal (extreme metal) at the heart of it, even if some of the newer bands don't care about that or realise that was the case.

Yeah absolutely Dave started this band after getting the boot from Metallica. While staying in an LA apartment building he met Dave Ellefson in the same building. Ellefson had moved to LA from the small Minnesota town of Jackson to pursue his dream of being in a band. Kinda crazy also that Megadeth auditioned MANY lead singers and Mustaine after being frustrated they couldn't find anyone who he thought was a good fit said I'll just have to do it then, and has remained their lead singer all through the years

Metal IS "modern classical". The difference between the two is that classical is constrained by only being the music. Metal is what you get when you directly overlay the message on top. Rap is great for messaging for example, but it rarely (In my limited experience) hits the music, it is more....... beat orientated, like electronica or dance music, which serves a purpose, but it is confined to an "event" such as going clubbing or just dancing. Metal is the bridge between words and feeling, be that in thrash such as Megadeth, or symphonic like Nightwish. Listening to good metal (whatever that is for you), is like having an audiobook slammed into your head without missing a beat from the soundtrack.
