London Essex Kent Luton areas are sess pits let’s be real, moved up to north Norfolk , yes I earn a bit less but my standard of living for me and the kids is on another level. Plenty of work which was equal to life in Essex but less crime, small class sizes for the kids, life on the coast, quieter area the list goes on. My kids are far happier so it’s a win.

There's no such thing as a half day job. Contractors are very fond of telling tradesmen how long a job should take. A lot of them also don't allow for the fact that when you're building flemish bond you are laying extra bricks for the same amount of footage. Nothing worse than going on a job and have to finish off the demolition because they couldn't be bothered to remove the mortar. Sets you back a couple of hours right there. Excellent days work to finish what was a two day job. Don't be shy on hitting them up for a decent wage. You know full well they've put in a mighty London price. Surprized you're working out of the bucket. For a job like that the best thing is the plastic washing up tubs. You can drag them along from A-B. Much easier than holding the weight of the bucket.

I’ve got a couple of customers in London and I HATE going up there. It’s having to leave really early to avoid most of the traffic. Then the hassle of trying to find somewhere to park. Unloading your gear is a nightmare. Then you have to find a new parking place every 4 hours ( Kensington and Chelsea). Then the hassle of finding somewhere to get parts and repeating all of the above again. Don’t get me wrong the monies great but it’s just not worth the crap.

First of all I never accept a clients word on what the scope of work is. At least ask for pictures of the work to be done. You should also be in a place by now where you can turn work like this down or just leave the job if you are unhappy. If I don't like the job or the area it is located in I will simply 2X or 3X my price. This will either have the effect of fairly compensating me for my time or dissuade the client from choosing me to do the work in the first place. You should also have several projects on standby so that if one doesn't happen you can pivot to another one. I don't have a You Tube channel or any social media and have work booked usually 6 months in advance. You should be picking and choosing the very best jobs/clients and charging the highest money possible.
