I bought the Brio after watching this video. I use it at it's closest setting without the guard to do my neck line at the back of my neck, and my beard line and it literally cuts my skin until i bleed. It also feels like it's ripping my hair out rather than clipping it. Not impressed.

I've had my Brio now for about a month and am happy over all. The build quality and battery life are probably the most impressive. It's SUPER solid. The battery lasts about five times longer than anything else that I've had. The precision of the cut is really good. However, I should warn that on the closest setting you have to be careful over uneven surfaces because it will nic you pretty easily. I also noticed that with really coarse hair, it pulls a bit. My only real complaint is the attachment is pretty weak and difficult to actually attach. Overall, I'm very impressed.

The model that you prefer is called Philips Norelco QT4050. The new version is called Philips Norelco QT4070. The new version has more length settings(from 1 mm to 10 mm in 1 mm steps), and a LCD screen where you can see the battery level and the length settings. These are the only differences, but all are in favor of the Philips Norelco QT4070(the new model). How is the older Norelco model(the one that you prefer) better then the new Norelco model?

...and sold. Thanks for the review. You should also mention that they sell replacements blades on their website too...that shit was always a pain in the ass. You buy a trimmer, the blade goes, and it was either weeks to get a new one, the model changed so they dont sell the old ones, or it was prohibitively expensive. This is $15, available in the same 3-5 shipping window, and clearly accessible.

I have a Vidal Sassoon trimmer that starts at (I believe) 0.4 mm and goes all the way to 15 mm in 0.2 mm increments and with just one guard/attachment. It's also washable and never needs oiling. I picked it up about a year ago for about $50 AUD. Is there a comparable product out there? I'm visiting the US and I forgot my trimmer back in Sydney, but I can't find anything here that starts nearly at 0 and affords increments smaller than 3 mm... not to mention the fact that they come with multiple guards and are a hassle to store away.

Ive got both. The norelco is good, but the lid on the hair collector always breaks off. The brio is weighty, and has a ceramic cutting blade which alpha didn't mention.
