C700 is TB's flagship model if you can get those 👍. A side by side would be cool. Like you, I had plastic ones first of, then got some folding Stanley's that were lightweight but would fall over when you went near them. Splashed out for the TBs and never looked back. I said on another post if mine got stolen I'd replace them immediately. Pretty sure they have a 25 year guarantee also. Those DeWalt ones look nice as you said for a portable option. I'd consider them for putting my portable worktop on, as a lighter option

Suggestion: A video on viewer’s site built sawhorses. A younger guy who worked for me made tripod, collapsable sawhorses. A boot complicated to build, but stable just about anywhere. I’m sure many of the viewers have good saw horse designs. Just give them an address to send photos, notes and designs to, and see what response you get. Might have three or four shows worth.

I would like to see you try the Ridgid 230710. This type of folding style is the fastest easiest, which means I use it more when I should. I currently make my own out of plywood, a set every year or so. It would be nicer to just buy something, preferably thinner profile even then the Ridgid.

ToughBuilt C 700 best dam saw horses ever. Rock solid, easy to carry and store, can carry a lot of weigh safelyy, independent height adjustment for the legs for uneven ground when outside and well priced making it an excellent value. I haven't found anything that comes close.

Owned most of these horses as well as others not shown and homemade ones over more decades than I care to remember. We all have diff needs and tolerance for well made vs not so well made products, sunk $$$, so everything here is my perspective, nothing more. My sons and I are all well over 6’ so the extensible legs of the XTs caught my eye. Got a pair to test drive. Short story. I now only own Bora horses, 5 pair of ‘em. My buddy now owns only Bora horses after borrowing some of mine. Ours are in use pretty much every day of the week. They’ve stood up amazingly well over the several years we’ve had ‘em - plus - we still have all our fingers 🤞 (more on that later). Out they come, release the legs (kinda fun that…very satisfying) pop in a coupla 2bys (if doing sheet cutting) couple of scrap short 2bys in the middle (flat so “even” w the side 2bys), toss on a sacrificial foam 4x8, unpack, say, that grey&green German track saw thingy and get to cutting. Love these horses (NOT affiliated w Bora, just a customer). Nice and very compact, store ‘em on end when not in use. Ok, got that one of my chest felt great to type it, but probably would kiss-off a lot of folks 😏 moving on. Ya’ll mustn’t have used the Boras much, cause you failed to mention the biggest downside to ‘em (BTW I do not have either of the other two things you mentioned as cons) . My one major con, and you’ll learn REALLY quickly with those boogers, is pinched fingers and blood blisters when you first start using ‘em. They will bite. But we all learned pretty darned quick after the first coupla days 😵‍💫😏 ⛑ One thing you didn’t mention was customer service. Yep, both my friend and I had to use Bora’s customer service. My issue was a extensible foot had been pinched way too tight at the factory and would not extend. My buddy’s issue was one horse of a pair -as pkg’d - arrived with a decent dent to where it wouldn’t easily open. In both cases we called Bora, they requested pictures/video, serial # of the horse in question and our respective address. Within about 3 days for me and I believe 4/5 days for him (we live in diff towns) replacements arrived. In my case they requested I pack and return the horse (at their expense) so their mfg could RCA it. Oh, the 2x4 holders on each end..I love em, if there’s not a 2by in ‘em, I loop my power cords through just so the plug hangs to where it’s reachable. I’m getting old and opinionated 👍🤷🏻‍♂️😈. Usually setup one pair to hold a portable shop-made MFT. Put a 2x2 on the bottom of the MFT to fit into the 2by slots.😊 I think you mentioned the pre-drilled holes in the 2by holder? My buddy as semi-permanently mounted fixtures on his using those…very handy. We’ve used them a few times ourselves. Now just to clarify one of your cons..cause it can be taken two ways. The leg folding…yes one leg has to fold in before the other can…but it doesn’t make a difference which leg you fold in first…just remember to retract the (nicely easily read length-marked BTW), no counting holes) extension legs if ya pulled em out. The other thing you mentioned was clipping two together to carry em at the same time? (Or that’s the way I understood what you said, may have misinterpreted). I gotta ask, given the weight of these things, each, at the end of a long day when you’re tired, I for dang sure ain’t wanting to carry two at a time…not even my son who’s 6’5 and a heck of a lot younger than me wants to carry two at a time. 😉👽 As always, YMMV. Just sharing, nothing more, nothing less. Not associated w any brand/companies mentioned other than as a paying customer. Flame suit on (yeah, I’m ARPA/UUNET era). Have a good’un and stay safe.

I have used several of the horses you reviewed. My favorite is the Dewalt adjustable leg. It has the most leg adjustment. I have worked on hillsides that required the full 7” to set level workstations. I can match my workstation height to my tablesaw and chopsaw for out/in feed tables and chopsaw extensions. They store easily in front of my tablesaw in my pickup bed. I also use the Ridgid Fliptops for outfeeds and chopsaw extensions. I’m curious about other options for this function. I find roller extensions don’t work well in the field, given the inconsistencies of lumber. Thank you for the excellent reviews.

My current favorites are Husky from Home Depot, and Channellock from the local lumberyard. Essentially the same sawhorses with different paint. And very similar to te Boras. They have a 1300-lb load rating per horse, are height adjustable have fold outs to hold a sheet of sheet goods. The tops are pre drilled to add waste boards, and the brackets on the ends are adjustable to hold 2X, 3X, and 4x materials. I have three pairs, four if you count the pair at my sisters house to use on projects there. I’ve built a few different tables to go on them.. I mount 2x8 or 2x10 on the top as the sacrificial surface. The over hang is handy for clamping to. With the DeWalt work stands, you can buy the mitersaw mounts, and mount things to them easily. I have a router table for mine, which is the same height as the table on my miter saw, and I can mount the table next to the miter saw to give a worksurface adjacent to the saw. Re mounting a sacrificial plate on the DeWalt metal sawhorses: Lay a 2x6 on the top, and put some scrap 2X underneath and perpendicular to the bars, and drill up into the bottom of the 2x6 to lock it in place.

i use the Dewalt folding metal 2 bar horse. Yes you can mount a sacrificial board on them with out drilling . I ripped a 2x the width in-between the the 2 metal rails snug and attach to a 2x6. The 2x6 can be removed. I run mine with 2x6 to cut and 2x6 covered in foam and 2x6 covered in carpet easily removed and swap out.

You should consider doing lateral load testing for sawhorses. I've heard that's the weakness of the bora set. Vertical weight capacity is much easier to accomplish than side loads. The leg hinges and locking mechanisms are the real test of durability and longevity (for example using sawhorses on unlevel ground with a heavy load). Also, as others have mentioned you should consider testing the toughbuilt saw horses. I have had good luck with them although they are pretty heavy. I love watching your videos and thanks for your scientific approach to testing.

Thanks for the video Rob, good info. I bought the Kreg portable work station and it came with one saw horse. I wanted to buy another but balked at the $180 price tag. After looking at how much it would be to buy a pair of something else it makes buying another Kreg a little easier. Thanks for the reality check! Buying woodworking tools isn't for the faint of heart! If you want good stuff, somebody makes it and it will cost you.

Great, realistic review. Your criteria made complete sense. I love the Bora XTs. Any polymer will eventually be useless / broken in our northern Wisconsin winters. Bora must have asked for feedback & then their engineers listened and built them accordingly. Solid adjustable legs accommodate uneven ground. Predrilled holes everywhere you need them. They are a bit bulky, but this produces toughness in the truck and shop. Funny that you pointed out getting caught on or clipped by the 2x4 holders on the top ends. Yep, I’ve done it a time or two (twenty?). Not cheap, but worth every penny in durability and usefulness. Usually on sale a couple of times a year.

My favorite sawhorses are the ones i built over a decade ago, from leftover mahogany plywood. They basically resemble the cheap plastic sawhorses, but i have a notched spreader bar (plywood) that locks into the lower end of the sawhorses, preventing the legs from collapsing, or folding accidentally. I dont know how much weight they can take, but it's easily 500 pounds each. I'm a cabinet installer and finish carpenter.

Those are the XTs he’s showing in the review (eg in his ppt and at 3:36 for example). I have a few pair of XTs and you are correct, at least on all the ones I have and the ones my buddy has, the order of folding doesn’t matter (as I noted in a separate comment I left a few minutes ago). You do have to remember to put the extensions back up if you extended them. Caveat we’ve both had ours for several years, so maybe a design change??? We never put the ends of ours on the ground/cement. We all wear steel toes so we put folding (bottom) side away from us on the steel toes and then pull the release latch and let gravity do it’s thing to close ‘em…with fingers well, out of the way (lesson learned). We wear 15+ so have big platforms to rest ‘em on 😱😉

I have a pair of Toughbuilt C700s (seems like I'm like everyone else in the comments), and they're similar to the Bora XT in this test. Sort of fiddly to put away but pretty robust and versatile. Nice video as always sir. My favorite sawhorse is the basic steel folding sawhorse with a 4' 2x12 mounted on it. I cut and routed handles that double as clamping spots so they're pretty much a work bench and I usually only carry one. It also doubles as a miter stand for my cordless 10" metabo non-slider when I don't need the big saw and stand on site. Obviously they're bulky so not for everyone but the versatility really seems to make up for how cumbersome they might sound. I am a fan of the plastic folding horses but I do baby them a little bit. I also like my speedhorses but I don't think the gimmick justifies the additional cost with similarly capable horses available for notably cheaper.

I bought the Bora sawhorses last winter when replacing the roof on my Florida park model trailer. They are the best I have ever used and I was in the building trade for 35 years. If the only thing you didn’t like is having to fold one side before the other I can tell you after one day working with them and opening them up and closing them when done it was not a problem as they have a sticker on them that says which end to fold first they are also very easy to open by just holding the handle and punching the release buttons and they fall right out.

The Boras look like a copycat of the Toughbuilt. I did a lot of research a couple years ago when buying a set and ended up getting two sets of the TB. The feet are adjustable and ability to set the height of each leg independently is great on uneven ground. It also has grip tape on top and pre drilled holes for adding sacrificial timber. They also cannot be carried together as one unit like the Boras. Ive left one pair outside when i had no stotage space, carrying 50 12ft 2*4s coverer with a sheet (a lot of weight). Had no issues. Mine are almost 3 years old and have had a hard life. Paint has started to peel off and some light surface rust but earned their keep and some. My second pair have been looked after better and will last for years. Probably not much between the two brands at the end of the day, very similar from the looks of things. Thanks for tbe content from the UK. Always enjoy your comparisons

have you ever covered the advantec "jackass" sawhorse by Ed Hunt? I'd be curious. Folks at Awesome Framers covered them and love them as quickly buildable on site with off cuts....

I just bought a second pair of Burro brand folding saw horses. (Hide a horse). They are made here in the USA. They are 100% wooden with the exception of some hardware. 3600lb capacity per pair. Nice horses. $75 per pair.

That link will take you directly to the page with pictures of them. The one pair is at the Cabin right now and the other just came 2 days ago. They are uniquely built, there’s room on the top board for clamps as well.

If you like bora. You need speed horse. Easier open than any horse and any leg can store in first without issue. Heavier though but support a lot of weight and sturdy. Nice grain patches on top too.

I've been really curious about that Bora centipede thing, could that replace sawhorses? I wonder how it would compare in your test.

I used it when it first came out - its ok - awkward and I didnt like the hold downs. The base was solid though

All these plastic saw horses break in the winter in the NE, they just do, I find the BORA SHs to be the best and most durable, and i love the 2x brackets on each end, it allowed me to build a frame system with 2x6s , a very good jobsite bench system ( in my opinion)

I’ll nominate the Ridgid lumberjack sawhorses as a better version of the adjustable Dewalt model you included. The Ridgid model has a sacrificial top and I think it opens, closes and adjusts more easily that the Dewalt.

I've researched these different sawhorse brands for months. I finally concluded, based on reviews , Toughbuilt C700 were going to be mine. Guess what, I can't find them in stock anywhere, for any price. It's like they just stopped making them or something.

I have a pair of the Central Machinery horses. Honestly, I’m not sure why I bought them. Like a lot of things, it seemed to be a good idea at the time. They’re not bad. I mean, they do what they’re supposed to do, but they’re not very satisfying while doing anything with them. I also have a pair of Bora Speedhorses. I think they’re an upgrade to the ones you have there. They’re very good, versatile and I like using them. But they are heavy and as I get older, that matters more. Also, if you give the outboard 2 x 4 slots a decent whack into something, they WILL bend. They will. Not very sturdy. It happened to me and I bent them back, but now I’m pretty careful with them.

Where I live people question your abilities if you use anything other than those blue Trojan horses on framing jobs (I believe it’s 5k lbs capacity). They store horribly, are heavy, take a few minutes to set up, pinch the hell out fingers if you’re not careful. I’ve had them for 12 years use them everyday been on countless jobs and I’ll probably hand them down one day.

You left out the Toughbuilt they are everything the Bora is for $44 each almost half the Bora. Their legs adjust to height easier; they hold 2x4 or 4x4 that can span and makes an awesome worktop.

I love your reviews, but nothing I saw here comes close to the two 2-in-1 clamping work table & saw horse combos I got on sale at Lowe’s for $99 each. The portability, adjustability, and versatility (aka, value) they provide is (so far) unmatched.

Your not gonna like the toughbuilt. It has the must fold #1 leg first or open #2 first to open. It’s probably heavier than the bora. I own the toughbuilt C700 and I really like them for DIY

I had the plastic Stanley saw horses and hate them... they constantly come undone and "walk" too easily when sanding on them... plus, they are not cheap. I wanted a set for painting trim/casework, so I'm fine that they don't have to support a ton of weight. I'll use my heavy duty ones for that. I just picked up a pair of Craftsman light duty horses and they work great (CMST11154), only cost $25 each and fold/attach to each other for storage. Simple basic design.
