My theory about why this even exists: A new feature in the engine was variable gravity, maybe initially put in for debug purposes to test different suspensions or something. Then they realised, hang on, why did we spend presumably a while making this feature if it doesn't even exist in the game? And well the only real "driving" that's ever been done other than in 9.8 m/s^2 conditions is on the Moon. Mars doesn't count because Perserverence's top speed is 150 *meters* per hour. Yes, meters. That's 0.1 kmh.

Aerodynamics and internal combustion engines both require oxygen to work properly.
@pgr32903 жыл бұрын
Internal combustion engines exist where they can be fed liquid oxygen mixed with exhaust gases to run fine. Closed cycle internal combustion engines have been a thing for nearly a century. The main problem here is cooling. In a submarine with a closed cycle engine you just use water obviously. With no air to air cooling and no bountiful supply of cold water managing this on the moon for a powerful internal combustion engine would be impractical.
@sickoslater3 жыл бұрын
@@pgr3290 couldn't they just go somewhere between the hot side, 127 degrees C, and the cold side, -173 C?
@pgr32903 жыл бұрын
@@sickoslater The issue in space as I said is practical heat transfer. Without a medium such as air or water to dump the heat into away from the engine by convection as we have on earth you rely on radiation or sublimation panels. On something like the International Space Station you can see the big external radiators. Internal heat generated by the electrics and human bodies goes through a water loop into another ammonia loop so it doesn't instantly freeze in the radiators. They are the white panels perpendicular to the solar panels. They are big because they are not very efficient without air breezing over them. A powerful racing engine can produce over a hundred kilowatts of waste heat energy the cooling system needs to deal with (i.e the waste heat energy that does not exit via the exhaust gases.) The panels on the ISS only deal with maybe 1/3rd of something like that and they are over 150 square metres in area lol!
@sickoslater3 жыл бұрын
@@pgr3290 Ah so it's less about temperature and more about there just being nowhere for the heat to go because no air. Nice, you sound like some kind of engineer
