Front grip at my local track is pretty important if you are taking an outside line. It's a fast straight that you Manji then it goes to a long sweeping corner to a hairpin. If you have too high of a front tire pressure when you take the outside line (cough cough the cool line) your car wants to keep going forward with all its speed and you start going wider and wider until you hit the marbles and lose all rear grip.

This proves what ive been saying for years as well, you need front grip for big flick entrys a bit, and after that its just pointing the car in the rough direction it should go and the rear does all the steering. Sticky fronts are just very helpful in covering bad front suspension setups (and im guilty of that)

Honestly I think if you have bad suspension you’d want less front grip, that way it smooths out your efforts

I found a similar but no way as severe situation when I tried a set of 235 40 18's on a 8.5J on the front of my old s14 and spun out a few times (bear in mind I have been drifting quite a long time), back on the 225 45 17's on a 9J or even 205 50 17's on my 8J's and everything was back to normal, it could have been that I couldn't adjust to it (or the wheel width and size changed my suspension set up, or maybe the 18's touched the inner wing where I didn't realise) but seemed like it was dragging the front having the extra tyre size and wheel width/mass... Either way great video and surprised I never saw it pop up before, rock on!

It’s called educating people. I guess you haven’t ever learned anything in school? I like to take the approach of extreme education... then let the end user make their own decisions... should you do this if you’re not experienced... no, but should you have super sticky tires up front? NO
@ROGUESPIRIT_3 жыл бұрын
@@chelseadenofa My comment doesnt deny anything you are saying. Every car had a balance for front and rear grip that should be decided by the driver, I think we both have this same understanding and you attempt to prove that with this video. The problem is the people that's only takeaway from this is you dont need front grip, some setups do and its up to the driver to dial the car how they like it. Ill say it again, too many people take your words as the words of god and dont get any other opinion or input, they are just clones of your driving style.
@bsiccs3 жыл бұрын
I feel like front grip helps you start and end a drift-pulling you towards or away from the apex-, and rear grip helps you go through it- pushing you around the corner.
@xXbyebyegirl01Xx3 жыл бұрын
Yeah this video is mostly clickbait. You technically dont need any grip in the front if you drift it exactly on the button. But the margin or error is basically zero with basically zero grip... You will have a lot more fun if you just put grippy tires on the front. "Myth" NOT busted

I'm honestly really surprised how well this actually worked! you are overall Chelsea a person, thanks to which I have such a fun drift suspension knowladge what I have now, but comparing to your FD experiance and mine from last 3 years and 4 cars - will not fully agree :) 1st of all I'm opinion, that your both FD progress in Mustangs is 1:1 connected with better front grip and better selfsteer. Cars are noticable (just from watching movies) easier to control. 2nd of all: make such test in your ori 318ti :) My experiance from my 316ti (100hp or below, on the channel) says - this car pushes so much forward due to having no power to lift the tires easily, that without front grip to 'hold it' 'forced' on the drift line, it will be not able to drift. Here it is possible thanks to great SLR geometry and huge amount of NA-blasting torque which fires up the tires immediately. I will be glad to heare what do you think about my theory :)
