Elvis said he knew every gospel song ever written, he got to test that out when he met soul man James Brown when he was performing in Vegas. He called James Manager and said please bring James up to my suite I'd love to meet him. James was over whelmed and went and they sang gospel all night. James would say "I'll bet you don't know this one" and Elvis would just start singing it. They were true friends. Sometime I hope you play James Brown's tribute to Elvis singing "Love Me Tender", that's beautiful. Thanks Seph, ain't nothing that can top Elvis' gospel.

Seph, you are so fun and funny! I love the "natter" expression. I would love a good natter with you anytime! I think you have a great point about the Elvis surprising those who haven't studied his varied songs, performances, and genres. He was such a complete wizard with that voice and his overall gift of arrangement and his ear for what sounded best. He is so overlooked for his genius at arranging and producing. I think he definitely had a real connection to gospel and his low baritone is gorgeous in these examples.❤❤❤

Elvis described the 'Bass' singer: J D Sumner as the lowest Bass singer of all time! You'll find he mentioned this fact many, many times at nearly 'every' concert while introducing 'J D Sumner and The Stamps quartet', right up to his very 'last' concert on June 26th 1977 in Indianapolis, Indiana.

First: Jon Palmer in the comments below is right. The bass singer you hear is Armond Morales of The Imperials. J.D. Sumner was with The Stamps and they do not come in on the scene until later. Second: I agree with you on Elvis singing Gospel songs a certain way because he felt connected on a deeper level to the message of the Gospel songs and I think Elvis also wanted to express the humility and regard that the love for God inspired in him. Third: Elvisflix! I'm 💀 So hilarious! But so true! SPOT ON Seph! Fourth: You know it just occurred to me that though you will be sad once you hit 1977 you will also have other Elvis content to react to that you will make you feel like you're discovering him all over again. For instance: There's this Elvis Acapella series that one Elvis YT'er has uploaded & you get to listen to Elvis singing acapella. So whenever you get sad Seph thinking about 1977, hold on to that happy thought, yes? Also: You know I had a couple of I'll say "unexplained" experiences in my life so I don't totally disregard the notion of spirits. Nor do I completely dismiss the idea of a guardian angel of some sort (personally I like to think my guardian angel is my Dad). Even if that is not so thinking it is is sometimes a comfort. I think that's why some of us hold onto the belief of God and Heaven and yes Hell too (because like it or not we all like to think that people who have done evil deeds will rot in hell for them. There's a little bit of Old Testament in most of us I think. To put it in one way, in the movie "The Mummy" Benny- the Mummy's sidekick- was told more than once by more than one character every time he showed cowardice by choosing to save himself first that he would get his one day, that comeuppance for someone like him was inevitable. I think we all think that when we see someone acting out selfishly. That in itself is a selfish thought but there it is. We're all human. We all get ticked off sometimes when we are trying to be good and decent and there's THAT a- hole who's crying foul after getting caught with their hand in the cookie jar. So to speak. I'm talking in metaphors today boy 😄) Right- o! Moving on! Recording Session Info Below: "I, John" written by William "Bill" Gaither. 2nd comment: Songwriter info: William James Gaither (born March 28, 1936) is an American singer and songwriter of Southern gospel and contemporary Christian music. He has written numerous popular Christian songs with his wife Gloria; he is also known for performing as part of the Bill Gaither Trio and the Gaither Vocal Band. In the 1990s, his career gained a resurgence (as well as the careers of other southern gospel artists), as popularity grew for the Gaither Homecoming series. In 2023 he released a secular music album with the Gaither Vocal Band entitled “Love Songs”. Bill Gaither was born in Alexandria, Indiana, in 1936 to George and Lela Gaither. He formed his first group the Bill Gaither Trio (consisting of Bill, his sister Mary Ann (1945-2018), and brother Danny Gaither (1938-2001) in 1956 while a college student at Anderson College, to which he had transferred after one year at Taylor University. He graduated from Anderson in 1959 with a major in English and a minor in music, after which he worked as an English teacher. He married the former Gloria Sickal in 1962. Gaither earned his master's degree from Ball State in 1961,Gaither entered into the fledgling Gospel Music Association, founded in 1964, and helped organize the first Dove Awards ceremony in 1969. He tried for a few years to manage both a music career and his full-time teaching job, but he quit his teaching job in 1967 and worked full-time in the Christian music industry. He recorded his breakthrough song "He Touched Me" in 1964. Gaither was influenced by Southern gospel singers such as Jake Hess and Hovie Lister and by groups such as the Speers, the Statesmen, and the Happy Goodmans. Gaither and his wife, Gloria, have written many songs including: "The Longer I Serve Him," "Because He Lives," "The King Is Coming," "Sinner Saved By Grace", "Something Beautiful," "He Touched Me", "It Is Finished," "Jesus, There's Something About That Name" "I'm Gonna Sing", and "Let's Just Praise The Lord." His songs have been performed by Christian artists (David Crowder Band, Carman, The Imperials, Sandi Patty, The Cathedral Quartet, The Speers and the Heritage Singers), country singers (The Statler Brothers) and pop artists (Elvis Presley). A video of a man surreptitiously recorded playing "Jesus, There's Something About That Name" on a piano in his destroyed house was shared by many people following the Tornado outbreak of December 10-11, 2021. Gloria Gaither often writes the lyrics while Bill writes the music, although composing is usually a collaborative project between the two. As of 2005, they had composed 600 songs and by 2012 that number had increased to over 700. After graduating high school, Gaither took a job in 1955 at Worthington, Ohio's radio station WRFD as a member of the station's gospel quartet. Since Gaither first began singing with the Bill Gaither Trio in the 1950s, he has constantly been performing. The trio originally consisted of Bill, his brother Danny Gaither and his sister Mary Ann Gaither. In about 1964 Bill's wife, Gloria, took the place of Mary Ann. The trio sang traditional gospel songs along with original compositions by the Gaithers that gave them a more contemporary feel. Gaither has a high bass voice (or low baritone), and often sang while playing piano with the Bill Gaither Trio. Bill and Gloria live in Alexandria, Indiana, and have three grown children. For more info, bio link here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bill_Gaither_(gospel_singer) *Fingers crossed this goes through*

@@SephPlays The fact that the stars are in Jesus’ right hand indicates that they are important and under His authority. The right hand is a sign of strength and control. Jesus explains to John that the “stars are the angels(messengers or elders) of the seven churches” of Asia Minor! This is a prophecy of how the early "chaste virgin" church shall over time apostate into the Laodicean, Harlot, Antichrist Roman Catholic Church that is the satanical serpent head of today's "beast" system spoken of by the prophet Daniel and expanded on in "Revelation". "REV 18" describes in full the destruction of this Roman system in the very near future which I guess will be "scary" for its adherents! Check it out, its a riveting read! Here's a sample - REV 18 : 4 And I heard another voice from heaven saying, “Come out of her, my people, lest you share in her sins, and lest you receive of her plagues. 5 For her sins have reached to heaven, and God has remembered her iniquities. 8 Therefore her plagues will come in one day-death and mourning and famine. And she will be utterly burned with fire, for strong is the Lord God who judges her.

The song is loosely based on the book Revelation in the Bible. Revelation was written by John, a disciple of Jesus. The city described in New Jerusalem (Rev 21:2) The gates of the city (Jerusalem from heaven) Rev 21:10,12-13. Man with stars (which is Jesus with 7 not 12 stars) Rev 1:14-17,19.
