@هايلالحضرمي-ق1ز3 жыл бұрын
Whose , you can use it as possessive adjectives ( whose + N) ex. This is the man whose phone was lost Also you can say this man lost his phone. Whom, you can use it for object. ex. this is the man whom I met yesterday. Me here is the the object. I hope to get it

Thank you for your excellent explanation. I'm often inclined to write "those who walk this path..." but I do so with uncertainty. I could not apply your beautiful trick of turning this phrase into a question: "who walks this path?" because it cannot be answered with a "him/her" or "he/she" response. Would you be willing to elaborate on this?

Hello Alisha! I like this YT Channel very much! May I ask you a question? Actually, two questions! 😊 1- Does the words "To who" exists in english? Is it possible to use "To who" in a correct grammar way? 2- In the last sentence, can we use "To who do I submit my report?" ?? I said "To who" because we are talking about the subject (who is the person that I will submit my report?). What do you think about it? Thank you!
@pavelp71485 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately, you didn't mention how and where we should use the preposition "to"? Should we use it before whom or after whom? Is the following sentence correct in both cases: To whom do I submit my report? / Whom do I submit my report to?
@rafaelc.s33265 жыл бұрын
Pavel P - I'm not sure, but in this case I would use: To whom do I submit my report? or...who do i submit my report to?
@javauk5 жыл бұрын
Good question, that i'd like to find out too.
@EnglishClass1015 жыл бұрын
"To whom do I submit my report" is technically correct. Many people who are strict about grammar believe ending a sentence with a preposition is absolutely terrible. But...so many people use this style of speaking (and writing) that it has become an acceptable form of communication. So I don't consider "whom do I submit my report to?" to be entirely incorrect. If I were editing a book or something official, I would change it. But in speech, it's no problem. Despite all of this, in modern English (particularly spoken English), it's extremely common to end sentences with prepositions. Moreover, most people don't care much about distinguishing between "who" and "whom." Though not *technically* correct, the most common question you'll hear is actually "who do I submit my report to?" Using "whom" (even when it's correct!) sounds pretentious to many people. Kinda interesting. Hope this helps! -Alisha
@pavelp71485 жыл бұрын
@@EnglishClass101 Thank you for your reply. But, one more little question for the sake of clarification: would it be considered as an error if I use sentences with a preposition at the end and use who instead of whom during my IELS or TOEFL test? Or it would be better to adhere to the oficial grammar stile (rules) in oder to get a better mark?

So since in American english whom is fading away, then can I say something like this: The manager TO "WHO" i summited my report yesterday wants to see me today. I spoke to Luis today WITH "WHO" i play soccer ⚽ on weekends. Well now are those sentences acceptable exactly the way I presented them? That's how I have been speaking, correct me please if i am mistaken. 🤩😃 Thanks!

@rafaelc.s33265 жыл бұрын
"To" es como la preposición "a" en espanõl. Por esa lógica yo diria que siempre se usaria "to" cuando tu usas "a quien" en su lengua. Pero la chica dijo que "whom" es muy formal y la mayoria usa "who", asi que nadie se preocupará por eso.
