For me the standout track is Bobby's Thorn Tree In The Garden. The album is a rollercoaster of emotions and moods, full of highs and lows, ups and downs until finally Thorn Tree... the way it speaks to me is that the narrator has learned to accept that in life things don't always turn out the way you hope but being able to accept it brings an inner peace, a clarity borne out in the gentle composition. If it were a movie it would play as the protagonist slowly walked off into the sunset! A remarkable moment to treasure, Bobby. Thank you 👏🏼

Hey, Bobbyb& Co💯✌️🏼So very blessed for these videos. These stories & Bobby’s musical history is right in my warehouse. It's my favorite kind of music to listen to and learn about of all time. I listened to all of my Dad’s music and right before he passed away I caught onto all his tunes. He listened to BB King - Carl Perkins - Willie Nelson, Leon, Ray Charles, Jerry Lee Lewis, Patsy Cline. All sorts from that era. I wasn't born until 1978 so all my life I've been into Derek & The Dominios, The Allman Bros, Otis Redding, The Grateful Dead, JJ Cale, The Who, Clapton’s solo stuff plus all the stuff my Dad listened to. My favorite band for the past 25 years has been Widespread Panic. I was wondering if you have ever heard of them or dig their music. I'd love to see and hear you two sit in with them. I'm not into Phish as I don't believe there much soul in their music. For me Widespread has the soul in their music I need. Much like Bobby & all the outfits he's played with. I was also curious if you could sometime describe Eric’s Hurtwoods Edge home, please? The layout & maybe a story or two of some of the parties you guys threw there? Or just some of the widest scenes you took in while in England or back in the States? If you've never heard of Widespread Panic. Please go to www.panicstream.com & jam any of their gigs. They cover a host of JJ Cale & Talking Heads but I really think you two would make a great connection with them Again bless you both 🙏 Keep on keeping on because I love this stuff💯❤️✌🏼 - thx! Thanks

I really don't understand your dislike for Duane Allman's playing. I've watched many of your videos over the last few years and I don't think I've ever heard you say one positive thing about his playing or his ability in general. He made a great contribution to the Layla album, as you did, and his contribution to the ABB, which is a historically great and influential band, doesn't need me to defend it. This album would not have existed without you, Clapton could not have created it by himself, it's obvious. But the "Coda" and Duane's playing on it is iconic.
@BW-CCАй бұрын
Not true at all. The unfortunate thing is that people idolize him because he died young. If you are truthful at all ABB people become vicious. Yes his playing was iconic... out of tune as well. Duane could not play it twice as the feeling happened once, they tried. The out of tune playing was so bad Tom Dowd had to work overtime to try and make it work.
@jaykay6387Ай бұрын
@@BW-CC Didn't expect a reply, so thank you for that! Not exactly sure what you mean by the "ABB people become vicious". You mean fans? As far as being "out of tune", I can't speak to that. I just know what sounds good, and everything on the ABB albums, especially "Fillmore", were incredibly moving emotionally and were incredibly consequential. I respectfully disagree about being idolized because he "died young". Yes, "legends" grow when you die young, but nobody is going to care if you suck! What he achieved with the brothers is in the pantheon, "out of tune" or not. I still listen to the ABB catalog, and it has nothing to do with Duane dying when he was 23. Again, appreciate the response, and your very important contribution to rock history.

Great info for this drummer, fan of D&TD, and huge fan of Jim Gordon's drumming. It's odd that Jim went and negotiated a deal with Stigwood for the Coda to be added. Why would he do that? Just for the money? Seems like there was a big power struggle between Jim and Eric in that band...Jim was a brilliant drummer, but maybe all of his studio experience made him a bit hard to deal with in a group/team setting.
@BW-CC Жыл бұрын
Jim wanted to be Eric, that is the big star. He tried to take over by going to Stigwood and who knows what went on but it made a huge impact on Eric and ultimately the demise of the band. Jim was a real pain.. he was doing more and more drugs and of course no one knew his mental state.
@bellbrass Жыл бұрын
@@BW-CC Thanks for the insight. That is what I've read, regarding Jim's condition at the time. And I've read that the two butted heads during the sessions for the ill-fated 2nd D&TD album. And yes, Jim was self-medicating and had symptoms even in 1970-1971, just not really bad yet. Jim was a helluva musician...but it takes more than that to make a band work. @@CBusMike872 Rita did write it, she spoke about it at length during an interview I did with her two decades ago. Jim stole it, very common knowledge and she never saw a dime. Rita's sister performed the song as "Time" on her record released after Layla had come out. When I asked her if she ever saw royalties, she sheepishly replied that the song was given to Eric because of who he was. I know money wasn't her aim, but I've always felt his heirs need to make right and give her at least half of his estate's half of those royalties. Jim Gordon was a great drummer, but, well, we'll just leave it at that.

Hey Bobby, I know you're not a fan of the piano Coda being on the end of Layla, what do you think of the piano part on its own? I think it's impressive that Jim did come up with that, despite what people think. Do you dislike the piano part completely or just at the fact that it was added on the end of Layla?

Hated it altogether... which has been reiterated. Don't need to go any further.

Maybe you should have filed Jim's drumsticks down for that mess. Support piano?? You were the key(boards), man.

The Coda might not have made sense immediately but it does now. The first part of the song the man is begging the girl for love and there is a sense of urgency. The Jim part of the Coda is hesitant like the man is beginning to believe that the love will never be, but not quite fully emotionally accepting this idea, then when Bobby comes in, finally there is complete resignation and emotional acceptance that this love will never be fulfilled and it is best that the love has ended, though there is still a deep sadness that lingers.

It never made sense...

The Jim part sounds like an emotionally-stunted man who can't get his words out. Bobby's part sounds like he wrote the Book of Love.

i have a piano playing buddy who always calls out "Layla , from the coda" , well yeah, because who can fake the real song , , until Eric did the unplugged version which was not even close to the original rock version - - no thanks , i'll settle for some practice and the Derick and the Domino's rocker ☮

While the coda does sound nice, it sure is tacked on.

I didn't like the coda on the song either. Whenever I played the record, I would stop it when it got to the coda.
