My only complaint is that Netflix seems to turn down any script that doesn't shoe horn gay and trans characters in every freaking show they produce. It's never natural. Never. I'm glad they are getting more representation but on Netflix it feels forced at every step of the way. It's getting old and tired. Want to know how to do it? Galactica and Caprica.

I think it's a multifaceted problem that evolved with small things that could've been avoided. Elves and dragons looked down on and seemingly refused to help humans. They flourished while the humans suffered. This, of course, caused resentment from the humans who then turned to Dark Magic (which was seemingly taught to them by Aaravos, who seen a prime opportunity). Humans then indiscriminately killed magic creatures to fuel their magic and further deepen the divide between them and other races. In short, no one is innocent in this.

In all fairness the dragons are hypocrites at best saying you should not use dark magic to kill things and survive to humans. When dragons would have to kill enough animals to feed a small town in a day to survive. Also the idea of punishing innocents in order demand obedience is literal terrorism.

Given the existing lore, there's plenty of blame all around. The human elf war has all the markings of a grudge match. There's plenty of bad blood between the 2 species, even going back to before the exile. Elves and dragons had always dealt with humans from a position of superiority due to humans not being able to access primal magic naturally. The human probably didn't appreciate being treated as the "lesser" species. So when humans found dark magic, which can potentially give any human a relatively quick way to access magic and change the status quo, the dragons and elves forced humans into exile. So yeah, full fledged war was just a matter of time.

Good intentions dont justify turning your army into lava zombies and lying about an elf invasion so that he can get the dragon prince back AND sneding shadow assassins to kill the other kings and queens so that they would be tricked into joining his side AND when he was going to be arrested for breaking the law he straight up murders several guards AND he told Soren to kill the princes. SPOILERS FOR SEASON 3 AHEAD, if you havent watched it don't read this comment I think no one is really innocent in starting the war. At the starting sol regem calls the human a "lesser being" and I'm assuming other dragons and elves also saw them as lesser beings. Dark magic sucks life and magic out of xadia and other magical creatures and humans at least the one at the start (forgot his name) seem perfectly content with that. Also sol regem was willing to burn a whole village filled with innocent people to ash to get him to stop using dark magic. So I think everyone shares blame human and elves

watari watari they were desperate in that situation. And all we know at the time of the war truly starting, when the dragon became blind, is that humans found dark magic and used it only to survive, to grow crops and possibly to defend their homes from savage weathers. In the wizards eyes, the dragon is the villain in the scenario as he refused to relinquish a needed crutch(dark magic) and the dragon retaliated by attempting to murder thousands of people just because they wanted a much better chance of survival.

Sol Regem is an arrogant, bastard dragon king who dared to call humans lesser beings with great disrespect. He even attempts to commit genocide of Elarion, leaving Tzar unable to catch up and stop him. An ultimatum, to give up the gifts of Aaravos and his teachings of Dark Magic or all of Tzar’s people, the Human race, would die. The Sunfire Elves are no better either. Purification through light rays to the eyes really. No wonder Aaravos had no remorse in killing the last Sunfire Elf Queen as a retribution for what her grandmother did to him. Lux Areia, the Sunfire Elf Kingdom burned in darkness for their arrogance.

The problem with how Dark Magic has been exposed in the show is that there is no real convincing argument about why is bad: - The "is a shortcut" bushit. Dark mages like Claudia have to study hard to learn the trade, and the components are pretty difficult to get (like the lava giant). If anything Elves get it easier thanks to their Source connection. - You have to kill things to get mojo. So what? We already kill animals for food, leather and so. If your brother had suffered an accident leaving him tetraplegic and the price to heal him were a single fawn, any doubts about what we would do? Sorry for you Bambi. Yet somehow Dark Magic is Evil and the reason people like Viren and Claudia become villains on the long run.

I feel like the show is trying to claim that both sides are equally at fault for the conflict, but the standards for evaluating who is responsible should be adjusted based on the power each side possesses. Five thousand years ago, the elves, dragons, and humans lived among each other, but there primal beings (those with magic) refused to help the humans, who were suffering greatly without magic. Not only did they refuse to help, the elves and dragons believed the humans DESERVED their plight, because they were born without magic; a sentiment that persists to the present, if these words from Queen Khessa are any indication: “Humans disgust me. Your kind could not be satisfied with what you were given. So you take what is not yours. You take it within you, and you turn it to filth.” Not only did the elves want humans to suffer, when they did gain dark magic, Sol Regem did everything he could to keep the humans powerless, threatening to destroy the city of Elarion unless all dark mages relinquished the practice. The elves and dragons had the ability to help the humans without endangering themselves, and were inherently more powerful than the humans, so their morals should be evaluated on a higher level. According to Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, humans need food, water, shelter, a sense of safety, and a community in order to survive. Only then can they work towards achieving spiritual enlightenment. If the elves and dragons had magic and were able to provide a better standard of living for themselves than the humans were, they are more obligated to act generously than the humans, who are struggling to survive on a day-to-day basis. If the humans turned to dark magic to survive because the elves refused to help them, those actions cannot be condemned on the same level that the can, because humans were using it as a last resort, while the elves attempted to continue oppressing the humans even before the former had started poaching magical animals. The show keeps stating that dark magic is evil because it requires killing animals to work, but has yet to introduce exactly how this is different from hunting. The humans seem to eat meat (Callum mentions how Glow Toads are used as bait to catch fish, and king Florian of Del Bar has fur and leather as part of his attire, so humans TDP do hunt animals), and have yet to introduce exactly how dark magic has consequences in the future. It causes the mage’s physical appearance to change, yes, but there’s little evidence to suggest that these changes are more than surface-level. (If they are, that’s a deterrent to dark magic more than an incentive.) The closest thing we’ve seen to karma for dark magic is the elves and dragons attacking the humans for using it, and it actually seems more difficult to learn dark magic spells than primal spells, so I’m not sure I’d call it a “shortcut”. (Besides, when did using a shortcut become immoral anyway? There’s no way to heal paralysis other than dark magic, as far as we’ve seen.)

I’m touched that you’re impressed, but it helps to remember that no human was born being able to write, or draw, or do anything. @Zephirite. 3 жыл бұрын
@@Jwsponky No need to apologize-I practically dangled by story in front of your eyes, hoping you’d ask because I’m REALLY excited about it. Calling it a “fanfic in progress” is misleading-it’s a story idea I’ve been nursing for almost a year now. It’s called “The Fall of Elarion”, and takes place 1000 years before present-day TDP, in the years preceding the Split of the continent. Before Dark Magic, humans struggled to survive harsh weather, attacks from magical wildlife, plague, and exploitation by Elves and dragons, preventing their cities from developing and forcing them to rely on the Elves for survival. Society was fully integrated, but the elves and dragons (referred to as “Primals” n out “Xadians”, since the name Xadia wasn’t used until the continent was split) looked down on the humans for their lack of magic, causing tensions between the species. Meanwhile, a reclusive elf-Aaravos-created Dark Magic and used it to connect to all six sources of magic in an attempt to reach the magic that had existed before the six sources-Life magic (Reddit gave me the idea). Life magic, like all sources, requires an arcanum. The arcanem for Life Magic is the ‘meaning’ of life-what keeps people motivated to enjoy life knowing it’ll end (which connects to the themes of this story-the meaning in life, focusing on the future vs present, the unfairness of life, sacrifice, and prejudice). As a Startouch elf who’s lived for thousands of years and given up on love since outliving people, Aaravos realized humans understand this, and if he can get them to unlock the Life Magic nexus, he’ll finally understand the meaning of suffering in his life. Failing, Aaravos decided to

(Love the sublte Avatar music in the background!) Thank you for the video. I really enjoyed it! A few thoughts: 1. I think there are some indications that humans did indeed hunt at least dragons (and possibly elves, too). Claudia says herself in season 2 that her book on dark magic holds a myriad of spells that you can do with dragon body parts. This knowledge needs to come from somewhere and if you have such detailed information on the magical properties of dragon bodies (even dragon snot...) then I think this could indicate that humans have hunted dragons in the past to gather such information (and power). The same goes for something like the titan's heart. I think it is not unreasonable to assume that at some points humans became too daring and ruthless and hunted for sentient magical beings. It is also possible that not even elves were spared as some speculate that Viren was using the elven assassins' ashes to create their shadow clones. And apparently he has a horned/elven skull in his lair? (Not sure, just read this one myself.) 2. I think it's not entirely sure yet if Aaravos really introduced dark magic to humans or not. Of course the possibility is definitely there but there also a couple of points that might suggest otherwise: In an interview the creators said that in the past there were more humans like Callum, i.e. humans that apparently had connected to a primal source. Aaravos' poem doesn't specifically mention him giving them dark magic. It just mentions him giving a spark. Then there's a "gap" or a "missing link" in the poem and it directly makes a leap to Elarion being the black eyed child spreading her roots (-> probably dark magic originating there and being spread by its citizens). Now of course it is possible that the poem just doesn't want to spell it out directly that Aaravos' spark is dark magic. But maybe it is also a conscious choice to illustrate that those are two different things. That is, the spark could have been an effort on Aaravos' side to lead humans to primal magic which resulted in other humans like Callum. However if you look at how difficult it was for Callum to establish his connection, it is possible that this process was very slow and that a lot of humans might have failed. It seems to be a very spiritual connection and maybe not everybody reached this spiritual/philosophical state. Dark magic on the other hand is a very speedy (and costly) way to get enormous results that even outdoes primal magic (as seen in the video itself; also, think back of one titan's heart ending a famine in two(!) kingdoms). So maybe humans in their despair - or impatience - found dark magic and used it. Something that could point to this is Aaravos' opening narration where he says that a (the depicted?) human mage discovered dark magic. As the creators have underlined in a recent interview with you, Aaravos has indeed never lied so far. Of course it can't be ruled out completely that he isn't involved - maybe he just left out some information, like that he led humans to discover it, which one might argue is not lying (personally I feel like it still kind of is but I guess we have to wait to find out Aaravos' stance on this). But I think there is also a chance that he isn't directly involved. Imo it can really be interpreted both ways. Or alternatively dark magic is necessary to connect to a primal source as happened with Callum and while Aaravos introduced it to them he didn't intend for them to actually use it but to only apply it as a catalyst. However humans had other plans. (In which case he'd either be really naive or over-confident - he is said to be arrogant after all.)

Aaravos has lied in the opening and for me it is a fact. In the clip at SDCC were the first dark mage speaks to sol regem, Sol Regem asks him how did he make the stuff: Sol: How did you create the staff? Dark Mage: Me? A lesser being like me can't create such powerful artifact! Sol: WHO WAS IT?? Dark Mage: one of the high ranks! Sol: WHOO?? That means that the an elf made the staff and in extend dark magic. In fact in the opening we have seen the high ranks and one of them was aaravos 🤔. At least I believe it was aaravos. He wore the exact same clothes with aaravos minus the cape. Also in the danish text it says that aaravos gifted something to people it specifically says "the gifts aaravos has promised us". Also this explains why aaravos is in a mirror. In a way aaravos did not lie because he did not say the whole truth just let me know what your thoughts are.

@@Ordinary_Mortal Thank you for responding. I see your point but personally I don't really think this proves that he lied for sure or that he undoubtedly gave them dark magic in particular. My point is neither that he is clearly not involved. Just that the information we have right now is really vague and we can't tell yet. Justin said in the latest Cartoon Universe interview that Aaravos has truly never lied so far. (But I also pointed out that he might have ommited info to his benefit.) I just think the fact that he has been confirmed to never have lied can also mean that "A human mage discovered dark magic" (intro) *could* be interpreted quite literally as Aaravos not being involved. Is it clear evidence that he was not involved? No. But it leaves the possibility open. I also don't think it is confirmed that the staff is made for dark magic only. As seen in the last episode of season 2 Viren uses it to channel Aaravos' primal magic through it (his eyes glow with a white light and don't turn black so I don't think he is "vampirizing" Aaravos' magical energy in that moment - I'm relatively convinced that Viren is not using dark magic but actual primal magic in that situation). My guess is that the purple gem is a primal source (maybe not a fully fleshed primal stone but something like the moon opal on Ava's collar or Runaan's necklace) and that it can be used to do magic in general - primal or dark magic. (Maybe something like general energy storage or energy channeling? That is what happened in both scenario: The dark mage concentrated life energy of several beings to fuse them together for one dark magic spell whereas Aaravos used it to send primal magic into the staff for Viren to connect with/use). I think this scenario is also a reasonable explanation why Sol Regem gets so angry. A human gifted with such a powerful source of primal magic? Those gems are very valuable even for magical beings, as the creators once explained, and they can also be quite rare. So I can imagine that Sol Regem takes it as a big insult that a "lower" being, that in his eyes is not supposed to carry the power of the primal sources, was gifted something so special by the freaking archmage, one of the greatest elves in Xadia. And the passage from the Danish text also just mentions a general gift, like the poem. So I think you could apply the same train of thought that I mentioned in my previous post: The creators said in the past more humans had connected to a primal source. Callum is not the first one ever, he is just the first to rediscover it. This connection needs to come from somewhere though. So I think the potential is there that Aaravos' gift was the connection to a primal source (may it be by teaching them or maybe by establishing a connection himself depending on his powers - or mayby something inbetween: that he has the powers to "show them" or "lead them" to the arcanum in their heart but they need to make the connection themselves so they still need to have the right "mindset" so to speak). Like I said, I am in no way saying that he is definitely not involved. Just that I think the whole scenario is much more unclear at this point and right not it could still really go both ways. Thank you for your time.

@@abcdef2072 you do have a point! What really bothers me is why aaravos is trapped in the mirror. What did he do to deserve such fate. To tell the truth i think the mirror is a communicator. I believe that aaravos is trapped in the moon realm the place out of time. I have two theories: 1) aaravos created a prototype dark magic for humans like you said. But humans wanted more power and they discovered dark magic. In the dragon prince website it says that the staff is used to enhance magic so my guess is that aaravos gifted it to humans to enhance their primal magic. So the humans wanted more magic and created the end product. The elves thought that aaravos created dark magic and imprisoned him

But if Sol truly had the intention to wipe humans off the surface of this land...He'd have done so without a warning (that would've also solved the problem but in a much worse way)

@@RoulicisThe sol is cruel to use genocide as an example is cruel no matter how dark the humans magic is or how the humans true nature sol and most of his kind are cruel. Like the red dragon circling a town of humans to instill fear because he can and struct down humans are seen as monsters why did he come to bother them in the first place. I dont care how much sol intention was to bargin with the human but resorting to genocide and mass murder is cruel. Humans live in a world where they are inferior to everything around them down to the insects and plants. Dark magic help elevate them plus there are only few dark magic users. But if the magic humans do is evil then no creature should be eating anything at all espeically dragons who are basically the ultimate predators.

@@camgeorge6222 Correction : Dark Magic helps elevate them Effortlessly. Humans can still use magic in this world, it's much harder for them than it is for elves (for which magic comes naturally), but humans can still use proper magic through training and dedication. Dark magic is so easy to use anybody could learn it, all while having the most terrible back-clash of all forms of magics. And this is why it's dangerous : Not because it fuels on living beings to work. Not because it's addictive and can cause serious internal damage on the user. But because it's effortless to use, THAT is the true reason dark magic is so dangerous. With this magic around, it's not that humans couldn't use other magics at all : it's simply that they didn't want to put the work into it anymore, and it didn't matter if they were threatening the balance of the very world they're living in. And besides, like It is shown, the dragon Sol DIDN'T wipe out the humans the way he said. If you want a cruel dragon look at Urgost, Smaug or Ankalagon : THESE were cruel murderous monsters, the dragons in this show are puppies compared to these sick bastards. If that was smaug in place of Sol, he'd have wiped the humans first, just so the mage could watch, then he'd have come back to finish him off. Thing that Sol didn't do. So, saying dragons are "Cruel" in this universe is wrong : they're arrogant yes, they see humanoids as inferior (and they're not completely wrong in this regard) and some of them are pretty bad tempered...But cruel they're not, they never kill for the pleasure and they avoid doing it if they don't need to. That's exactly how the 2nd dragon king lost his life : if he was cruel he'd have slaughered the humans who came to his lair without giving them a chance to live, and he'd still be alive

There have been gay monarchs. They just never openly married their same-sex partners because it simply wasn't done at the time. In this universe, however, it's likely that with other sentient species in the picture, smaller matters such as race and sexuality were simply overlooked due to elves, humans, and dragons all having their own common 'other' to divide them.

Nope, they're all European. So far there are two elven groups that have accents/dialects from the British Isles. Moonshadow being Irish (I believe) and Skywing having an English dialect. Sunfire are French. We haven't heard an Earthblood elf speak, unless Callum's impersonation was valid haha. And I'm not entirely certain if Aaravos's speech stands for all Startouch elves.

It isn't really the same sort of racism in the show as it is with in real life, or at least, was. People were opressed because their appearance and/or color was different, so they assumed they were lesser based on this. The hatred between elves and humans is based off events and wars that caused a grudge between them.
