From what I can find from posts from players game seemed to shut down in January 27th 2017. There’s also a mention of the MM1 servers shutting down after 5 years, which means it’s very likely the game got shut down at the beginning of 2017. The Cat Game beta was released on the 29th November 2017, so it is likely the development of the Cat Game heavily impacted MM shutting down. The full release of the Cat Game was 29th September 2019. (I can’t blame anyone for getting this wrong as for some reason a later build of the game is stated as the actual release.)

It was never ever fully offline, it could be played offline with features missing, because the files needed got downloaded onto devices. (Something that didn’t happen in 2.) The technical reason is that the App Store has a size limit on the base app. (128 KB) All of the files and animations were of pretty high quality so the complete game exceeded this size. (Earliest versions of the game were 200 KB.) So the practice was that files were downloaded from the servers. It is possible to side load a patched IPA, although you need a pre iOS 11 device for this and only v1 had a patched IPA. V2 and 3 have to be manually patched, which requires jailbreaking.

As for why they wouldn’t release an offline version. Probably because mass interest is really low at this point, and it’s probably seen as unprofitable especially as the prior two games have a reputation of being financially unsustainable. Usually companies use dead games (and sometimes preemptively kill games) to bolster their portfolio to investors. (Games are usually preemptively killed because they were only supposed to have a fixed lifespan or to try and hide the fact the games are starting to become unprofitable or are not well received .) The current investors are super into crypto, and the cat game is doing well enough to have a clone called dog game compete with it.

The animations were honestly top tier and so smooth to look at. I had the special coloured variations of the guardian monsters too, and I still miss and think about the game sometimes. It's such a shame that they shut down.

8:34 An employee known as Tavis Lam who worked on the game has actually stated the reason the game shut down was because the game weren’t bringing in enough money to break even with the cost of the servers and investors wanted the cat game released. The sources are on various minomonsters videos. Tavis Lam’s channel has videos where he has replied to questions about the game shutting down.

A game breaking bug was not the reason the game shut down, he has also debunked that. Although what is true was that the number of people experiencing bugs/glitches did increase over time, and the support department got radio silence from the main company several months before the game shut down. As confirmed by another employee who worked on the second game

that might have also been part of why it got shut down xD waaay too many people knew about that work around, and that definitely wasnt the only abusable glitch the game had. personally i hated the paywall and left because my favorite game was becoming like all the other pay-traps while also failing to moderate cheaters that broke pvp in events. they had a real gem but they weren't making good internal decisions xD @@CYCLONYTE

DUUUUUUUUDE I remember playing this game as a kid!! I always wanted to get the rarer and cool-looking monsters and get my characters evolved early on, but I could never get past the water level as the guardian was simply way too hard lol. This game really has been on the back burner of my mind for so long and once in a blue moon I will remember it and before I would always be so confused why I couldn’t find it on the App Store whenever I got a new phone. I can't be the only one who remembers this creature capture game on the app store. It was called Bulu Monster- Hold on I just looked it up what the fuck??? Dang I’ve been mourning this defunct lil mobile app ever since it left the store 😭 GORGEOUS animation, lovable character designs, It’s such a freakin loss. Fireline, Alacon, and Pyrus were my absolute fav minos ! Such a shame there were so many cool additions to the roster in MM2 that I didn’t even get the chance to tame. One of the saddest things is that there were so many unreleased Minos that never got the time to shine, Stratascend, the Air guardian, Thundestroy, the electric guardian, to name the most epic ones, as well as some ult forms of others. It's really a shame because the game featured so so much good stuff, the music, the fighting, the designs especially. It really had a thing going, and seeing all of that go to waste is just sad. One of the things I failed to accomplish was getting Ragnarath. My only try was that one dragom chest I opened with enough diamonds, but it was only an Aquarath, which I was still very happy about. But the saddest thing is that I had the game functional (even after it shut down) but still deleted it for some reason... I even had Blizziarc after grinding out the event for the entire day to be in the top 50? I cant really remember. But all of this is now lost, probably forever, only preserved as screenshots on my device. I really regret that decision. Young me couldn't think far enough ahead...

I turned 20 last year and had to move out from my mom’s. While packing my stuff I found my old iPad and wanted to throw it out since it was old, but I had to wipe its memory just in case. Whilst booting it up I saw it still had Mino Monsters 2 on it and I started playing it. Other than the speed of my 13 year old iPad, it was pretty much how I remember it. Unfortunately, you can not unlock new levels since it has to load them in, so I was stuck with those worlds and levels I already had. But solely because of that one app, I still have that old iPad laying around. Just in case I want to dig up some memories again.

My main memory of minomonsters came from when i used to sneak my phone into class so i could play. I remember trying to tame Hydrabyss while in the middle of gym class one day and telling a bunch of my friends they should play too since we were all pokemon nerds. Yea man this game was awesome (especially for Pokémon players who were searching for something to play on mobile), I remember me and my brother playing this on and off (we shared our family Ipad) and then one day I opened it and it just didn’t work properly anymore. So sad I remember me and my brother being so hyped every time could get new monsters, we especially loved Cupaw since he and later his evo would always be our main carry. This game was also from an era where mobile gameswere in general more fun to play, nowadays even the more hidden gems will almost instantly charge 10 bucks for some kind of pass or VIP. Man I miss those days

Omg, I remember MM. I gave it a shot because the art made me think of Lilo & Stitch at first. I had picked Blazel, but quickly loved Allura so much that I dumped almost all my resources into Allura. I had such a blast playing this game. I think anyone who got the chance to play Mino Monsters (especially 2) would agree it was among the greatest. Hardly any apps these days that were quite like it. I feel like they should consider refining the app into an actual proper game, if that were actually something worth the investment to them - I know better than to huff that copium but its still fun to dream. Its just sad to watch my favorite apps fall down the drain with no easy way of playing them anymore. To this day I still mourn the loss of my beloved Pokemon Duel.

OMG MINO MONSTERS THAT'S WHAT IT WAS CALLED! Thank you algorythm and you! i remembered the visuals but not the name. maybe.... maybe you could help me out find that other game i played as a kid that i loved.. it got shut down so there was no way of finding it again, even just the name. It just vanished. I wasn't able to google it at all. It was a pixel style game, it had gacha (which at the time i didnt know what it was) you would summon monsters like medusa, an angel soldier, a headless knight on a horse, etc. Could fuse them to create new monsters too, you would go on that rogue road with a team 3x3, encounter battles, fight by strategically planing which line or diagonals of your team would start first (max 3 lines). Sometimes you would encounter other players' teams, it was npc controlled but it was other players team nonetheless. Goal was to get as far as possible with your team. You die you rince repeat the getting stronger and trying again. The pixel style was dark. I think nobody will ever find that game ever again 😅

Unfortunately i didn't have a phone until late 2015, and mino monsters 2 was one of the first game i downloaded, i unfortunately could barely finish the water island before they closed the servers and it really broke my heart. Honestly tho, Ragnarath was the main reason i joined the game, dragons and black holes are 2 of my favourite things to study/draw and talk about, so it was no wonder he became the GOAT for me (the crocodon's evolution line was awesome too, close second favourite)

The first game is what taught me about editing save data for games on my ipod touch cause there were various values that corresponded to the resources in the game and once you figured them out you could edit them ofc you'd have to be jailbroken to even access these files but it was really fun as a kid to see the inner workings of the game and thinking back on it now the game was pretty simple under the hood I just remember absolutely loving the art style and how cool all the evolutions looked my brother and I both have just really fond memories of this game and monster galaxy
