Hi Alan if you are just starting out with a router,I personally would purchase a cheap trim/palm router,there's plenty on ebay,they only have a small base on them,but can purchase larger bases at a later date..I've seen some excellent projects using these routers,if you find you are enjoying the hobby,dewalt 611,or bosch are a popular router..Good luck.www.ebay.co.uk/itm/193727105807

Did my first carving yesterday using your tutorials. I think it came out good. Still have to paint the letters. I used a mling bit from my dremel in my new router. (Lots of outside light gets in, vacuum, and 3 led lights) works out pretty good although wondering if its a tad on the big side. My fingers and wrist were killing me afterward) although it seemed that when the milling bit hit the sides it seemed to pull itself loose of the collect adapter and went deeper. Are the milling bits not meant to carve on the edge or was it a direction issue. Ie right to left instead of left to right. Awesome tutorials.

The milling bits are great for clearing out with,I've had two become loose on me before,I was lucky as I was filling with resin,so it didn't matter..I've done projects before with just the milling bit,so it cuts the sides no problem, in any direction..

Hey , nice video. On the projects that you use linseed oil, how long do you let it dry for before applying clear coat? Thanks.
@fishtank5050
@fishtank5050 4 жыл бұрын
Thank you David, I try and leave it to dry for a couple of days..but I've been known clear coat 24 hrs later,because this is boil linseed and not raw linseed, it dries really quick..

I am playing with using gimp to convert real pictures to templates. Took a picture of my dads car and going to make him a plaque for his car at the car shows. Have not carved it yet so not sure it this is to much fine detail yet.
