The best placed third teams get to play, the rules are different in euros then something like the world cup

The Euros are similar to the World Cup between 1986 and 1994 in that 24 teams qualified for the tournament and split into 6 groups. The next round is a Round of 16 which the top 2, and the 4 best third-placed teams, qualify for. I like the current format better. Much better than the two group stage format of 1982...
