He's one of a kind. Its a normal reaction to be jealous but not normal to be so jealous, its already like an obssession or somethin.

The way I think about it. I would rather they be happy with someone else than be miserable with me. To me jealousy is toxic, it breeds mistrust and resentment.

I think the issue among Filipino personality is not exactly jealousy but it's more of TAMPO-meaning feeling of resentment and frustration when one's situation/case is not personally expected and favorable because most Filipinos are sensitive in disappointments✌✌✌

I'm glad I was born in the 60's. Today's Filipino men have been liberalized and have very different mindset from the traditional old fashioned ones. Traditionally Filipino men cannot tolerate other men looking lustfully at their wives, mothers, sisters and children. The only women who wore apparels that show a lot of skin even in the beaches were the liberated family members of the upper class, the westernized people and those who were in showbiz. The normal wife, mother and daughter are bound to honor their husbands, fathers, sons with the basic of morality. Back then it was improper for a married woman to be alone and talking to another man. Today flirtation is common and normal among married women in the phone, internet chatrooms and even in dinners and dances. According to a retired sociology professor 85% of today's young wives (under 50) are openly or secretly involve in flirtation with other men and 33% are actually cheating on their husbands.

No disrespect, but I’m under the impression that in the Philippine past it was also common for well off, “upper classes” men to keep mistresses. I was told it was a legacy of the Spanish culture. Again, sorry to any Spanish here, I’m just telling what I’ve heard more than once. I’ve also seen some of the mistress thing in Filipinos I know. Only the men. Philippine Women I never heard of having affairs & maintaining their marriages. But I know Filipina women of older generations who accepted mistresses or took husbands back if they left a while etc. I also know one who kicked husband out, it took over 10 years but she did. Never divorce as she is devout Catholic & of course also illegal but they lived international too. I realize this happens in every culture (infidelity), but I’m trying to describe more of an accepted cultural way of being in marriages. If that makes sense. It is like on show Modern Family, the Gloria character said once: in Colombia the wife comes first, then the mistress, then the dog! (She was upset that Jay was so good to their pet dog.). Anyways, I think that’s a reason some Filipina women of older generation monitored their husbands carefully (or so I was told).

…& I agree with the original commenter about the strict adherence to unwritten rules of conduct, like not traveling in car alone with a man not your husband, even if for short distance & you are both happily married to others & you are all friends!

@@wintersojourn9356 Regarding men's morality it's a sad truth as well. But at least back then it was still considered wrong for a man to commit adultery. Most men who committed adultery back then were the rich and powerful. The common man back then mostly don't even think about having a mistress. There were a few commoner chicks boys most of them are military or police. But the ordinary working men mostly don't even think about it. Unlike today a lot of ordinary men are also cheating on their wives. And what is worse is that in 2016 the President himself Duterte validated this immorality by even bragging his own promiscuity and declaring that adultery is just a normal human frailty that if it is up to him adultery should not be considered a crime. The Filipino view of what is moral and what is not has changed so drastically and there is nothing we can do about it. That's why I said I'm lucky to be born in the 60's when only the bad men have mistresses and common women were loyal and conservative.

Ty for your reply! I appreciate your thoughts & observations. Interesting. I think we are in agreement, yeah, pretty certain we are! It is discouraging to read the statistics you quoted, but (I’m not just saying this-I mean it truly) I’ve never been one to fully trust stats. Lotsa scientific reasons why! But I am sure the overall trend is correct though. But we gotta keep the faith, just like one bad apple can spoil the barrel; so to a minority of couples who are truly faithful & committed can impact the path the world is following. I am trying to always pray for the Philippines, for her people esp with the hardships of pandemic & for overseas workers. I hope to pray even more for the morals/values, the Phil culture has always been so lovely to me in its emphasis on family bonds/responsibilities & love for extended family, community & visitors. I also love the way they don’t have to be shy practicing their religions/spirituality in the public arena. I know it can seem like not much, but we can pray.

@@wintersojourn9356 I'm not really religious. But I believe that there is a God that put into our soul the sense of knowing what is right and wrong. As the religious people says When the space in your soul that is supposed to be filled up with God isn't filled up by God then something else will fill it up. True ended for a lot of people in this generation, may be including myself when it comes to lust. We are so full of the false gods that we desire and we have forgotten the moral code that was supposed to fill up the space for God in our souls.
