Since military leaders seized control of the Western African country in late July, Niger's streets have seen protests against France's influence there. Meanwhile neighboring countries and Western nations have called for the immediate restoration of the elected government. In a further development, there have been electricity blackouts in major cities, after Nigeria cut-off energy supplies as part of sanctions. DW speaks to Alex Vines, who leads the Africa Programme at the policy institute Chatham House.

Uranium isn't rare for one! Therefore not that profitable of an export. Secondly, look all over Africa, even a country as relatively rich as South Africa is plagued by corruption to the point that basic needs don't get met and infrastructure is never built. Facts are facts regardless of whose mouth they come from. While representation does matter in this case there is a possible opportunity for a local journalist to shine. This speaker has NOT investigated TRUE reasons for the coup. All of those countries shown, just happen to be ex-French colonies. The French industrial sector are obviously very protective of cosy deals made with France-friendly African governments. It is ALWAYS about the money. So a presidential guard wanted to flex his muscles, brazenly because he was insecure he was about to be replaced? What an insult this statement is. It beggars belief and encourages idiotic naivety among those that watch this interview. So, here it is. The govt that they overthrew did not let the revenue from uranium sales, prioritise the upliftment of Niger's ordinary citizens. This is an extremely well worn narrative. Africa's resources CONTINUE to be extracted by powerful western states leaving poverty everywhere throughout Africa in its wake. That is capitalism. The west is expert at this practice. The rich get richer...deal with it and stop believing in mythology that romanticises the involvement of foreign interests in Africa's wealth. The relationship will always be exploitative. Wake up 'woke' people. Please.

Gdje pomaže Zapad i Europa, tu sreće nema već 50 godina. After World War II, an international agreement was signed that one country should never attack another, even though they have opposing laws. The West thought of giving refuge to the defeated armies and collaborators of the Triple Pact, and they used them to organize civil uprisings in their home countries. The reasons for the rebellion were not economic, but used undemocratic principles, such as religion and nation. Nationalism was born in Europe and in the West on humane principles, to unite small states, provinces and kingdoms into one big one, with one law and one letter, so that they would be stronger in case a neighboring country attacks them. The West was against Yugoslav nationalism, against a large and serious state and financed separatism under the slogan of nationalism. So the West created new colonies, starting first with Yugoslavia, then Libya, Iraq and other countries, and now the West has many colonies from which they steal and exploit other people's natural resources. Now the West and Europe are raising an army against African countries, because they want to free themselves from colonialism. In Africa they do not support the coup and in Ukraine they supported the coup and send enormous financial and military resources to wage war against Russia, because Russia is rich in many natural resources. Check it out on the internet: Every country in the world owes billions of euros and dollars, and no one knows who owns that huge sum? With private individuals, because the west gave the right to private banks to print money without collateral, these private individuals also rule the world, and the west is forced to go to war with other countries, in order to return the debts to private banks. The Russian people know, like the citizens of Eastern Europe, that all wars come from the West, Central and Western Europe, and that they create vassal states, exploiting their natural resources and recruiting scientists. As a result of such a policy, about 150 million people have been killed in wars in the last hundred years.
