St Athanasius the Apostolic is one of the best. His spiritual grandson, St. Cyril of Alexandria was also great (St. Cyril was nephew/diciple to St. Theophilus who was a disciple of St. Athanasius).

Coptic popes are some of the greatest. St. Dionysius and St. Peter the seal of martyrs. And although many have been deceived into opposing, St. Dioscorus was just as courageous as St. Athanasius in not contradicting true miaphysite faith of Ephesus I. Imagine standing opposed to a whole gathering of bishops that clearly contradicted the church's teaching. He had barely anything worldly to lose by agreeing to Chalcedon but chose to oppose it to hold on to that one deposit of faith. May all the slander he gets add to his reward, and may he intercede for their salvation.

I'm starting out with that too. Can't point you at what the smartest course of action is, but I can say what I've found. Amazon's got a lot of kindle volumes of church father writings for very cheap, if that's a direction you're taking. I've got a couple of 40-50 authors each for 2.99 USD. (I'm cheap.) Several writings each. Christianity: the First Three Thousand Years by Diarmaid MacCulloch is my current read, but it's written with bias. It's been a good starting point for more exploration because idk what terms to google, but I do not have faith in how onesided it's presented. I would not recommend taking it too seriously. Going to also start on History of Dogma by Adolf von Harnack just to get some context (it's public domain online/free on kindle). Haven't found much else yet. I recommend Ecclesiastical History by Eusebius- also cheap on kindle. Mine was like a dollar or two. Different translations exist. Probably some in the public domain but I haven't checked. It occasionally gets bundled with one of the big church father volumes for the same price to like a dollar higher. Since I'm at a noninstitutional Church of Christ, I'm also reading the Search for the Ancient Order about the restoration movement. If you're currently attending a church, looking at their history might be an interesting place to start. Have not read yet, cannot endorse, but I have these saved for later reading- -the early church from Ignatius to Augustine by George Hodges -Martin Luther and John Calvin: leaders of the Reformation by Charles River Editors -History of the Christian Church by Philip Schaff (he's got a LOT of published historical material if you like his writing) - The Christian East and the rise of the papacy by Aristeides Papadakis, John Meyendorff

@@sidthesquidh don't forget to read the Church Fathers themself. Be a good idea to read the Apostolic Fathers, for theyre the earliest, disciples of the Apsotles, and there's not much to read. Then various Ante-Nicene Fathers, though different schools begin to develop. St. Athanasius on the incarnation fo the word is a must, and it's rather easy to read, St. Augustine is very important to the west, the Cappadocian Fathers are those who are vindicated in the Councils, very important for the east. I'm Orthodox, so St. John of Damascus is a very important pre-schism theologian, you could read his Fount of Knowledge. But ultimately i'd recommend the Apostolic Fathers, St. Ignatius, St. Clement, St. Polycarp are the main ones. And maybe read the canons and declarations/letters of the Councils. Also St. Cyril of Alexandria is pretty important aswell. But start with the Apostolic Fathers.

It's part of being human and not robots. But it doesn't mean that God had nothing to do with our choices. In fact, if God works through our choices and desires to bring about his plan, this preserves our ability to choose willingly, whole at the same time our choices will be in accord with what God decided and ordained would happen. But also what Biblical basis do you have for love to be free in order to be love?

Also if i put a gun to your head and say do you love me? You can say yes but that doesnt mean you do. Also if God predestined you to do things then you dont have any agency because it was already decided leaving any commandment void because its not in your power to do it or not.

Love most of your content Zoomer, but I must tell you that you’re wrong about Santa. While yes he’s based on Saint Nicholas, Santa Claus is a fictional character that ultimately has made a mockery of Jesus. People lie to their kids telling them Santa is real and brings them presents, instead of telling them the truth. The Bible says lying is wrong; in fact it’s the 9th commandment. And, no it doesn’t matter if it’s just for children, for fun once a year. It’s still lying. Might I add that it completely takes the focus away from the true meaning of Christmas which of course is Jesus. When you tell children that there’s a Santa Claus that’s gonna come down the chimney and bring them presents, you make them get excited about him instead of the fact that we’re celebrating the greatest miracle God has ever given us. And, lastly I’ve heard of kids who’ve grown up believing in Santa, and when they found out the truth, they started to think that Jesus wasn’t real either and that their parents made that up too. It happened to me. And again, I’m not attacking you RZ, but I’m telling you the truth as a brother in the faith. I encourage you to really rethink this one. I know you said in the beginning that you’d tell your kids “Santa was real, but he’s dead.” That’s still not true, because Santa is not St. Nicholas. I mean, think for a second. Imagine you had God sitting across the table from you and you asked him if he was alright with it. What do you think he’d say?
