E 20 | out leveraged and over powered... you cannot say who’d outwrestle who in mma since there’s a cage. Kamaru was pressuring and pinning tyron to the cage making it a lot easier... I highly doubt he could manhandle him in a folkstyle wrestling match on the mat.
@ckalo74 жыл бұрын
Abdikadir Abdiwahid | well Tyron and Kamaru were wrestlers at the collegiate level... Folkstyle. And you can judge wrestling in MMA, but it’s not so applicable when you’re using a cage. It’s a whole different aspect of grappling leverage. That’s why Khabib is so good because of the great fundamentals and cage leverage. For instance, If Khabib purely wrestled Jordan Burroughs on an open-mat.... he’d get destroyed. But in an MMA cage, it’s a different story.

I think Woodley was all caught up being 50 cent or whatever and took his eye off the ball. I don't think he's all in any more, but if he was I'm pretty confident Woodley wins the rematch. How does Usman v Colby go, I don't know, they are quite similar. Colby had the gas tank, but maybe Usman has more power. Not much to choose from. Probably come down to the intangibles. Besides GSP is the champ, he can come back and take it if he wanted to. Can't rule out Jorge either. Lightweight and welterweight is great right now.

The D2 wrestler's name was Carlton Haselrig. He won the D2 and D1 titles each his sophomore, junior and senior seasons in 87,88,89. After he won his third straight in 89 the ncaa discontinued the practice of allowing the D2 champion to compete ( the D3 champion was also invited until then). He ended up playing in the nfl for the steelers for several years as a guard and was an all-pro. He was 143-2-1 as a college wrestler and defeated kurt angle during his college career. Chael’s analysis of Colby’s wrestling can now be used in the supposed upcoming fight between him + Masvidal. I don’t know if a training camp will be long enough for Gamebred to even come close to matching Colby’s sustained incredible pace or his ability to control the entire fight because of his rare wrestling ability! I am a fan of both fighters who each have massive ego’s that, in that area only, I believe they are equal. But I hope Masvidal has begun his own pre- training camp concentrating in conditioning, wrestling, + getting + getting out of submissions. It is sure to be a great one + may the best man win!

This is more of an observation than a point. What really concerns me for Colby is the strength of Usman's upper body, combined with the length of his arms. I know Colby fights with a much better motor & pace than Woodley ... But when Woodley got Usman's back on the fence, all Usman did was bend at the waist and Woodley couldn't navigate all that length to a takedown. I'm assuming Colby will be pressing forward ... But when he's pressing Usman to the fence, am not sure he can succeed there like he typically does. I dunno...

In general, a DII national champ is good enough to qualify for DI nationals, but probably won't win any matches. However, every so often there are one or two DII national champs that are good enough to place, or even win DI nationals. So... it depends. When I was in college (late 90s, early 00s) there was a DII lightweight (133? ...141?) who smoked a bunch of DI all-american wrestlers during the regular season. But I also watched a couple of DII champions get owned by mid-level DI guys.

Colby has 2 big advantages in this fight 1. He has non stop pressure and that would tire Usman out because Usman is bulky as fook and those type of guys lose stamina fast especially with Colbys pressure and 2. Usman’s wrestling in a Mma reminds me of GSP. It didn’t matter how good the wrestler was that GSP was facing, he ate them alive. From D1 All American champion Josh Koscheck to Big 10 wrestler Fitch from powerhouse Purdue U. Indeed, GSP never wrestled a day in his life and swamped dudes. Colby has serious pressure tactics. He purposely grinds against the cage and get takedowns at the cage just so his opponents will get back up with his weight on them. He'll put damn near all his weight on his opponent and make them work a little before letting them get up while having to lift an extra person on top of them wearing them out. Colby throws tons of 40% strike power shots and then shoot in to push them against the cage. Colby is a legit genius in the octagon. He puts it together well and has a serious chin.

David Klemm won D2 and took second in D1. I think Carlton Haselrig won both a couple times.

I don't know if there's more than 1 but Carlton Haselrig wrestled out of Pitt-Johnstown and won 3 D2 and 3 D1 championships.

Beat the immortal Kurt Angle too, that counts as 5 gold medals

I think Usman has all the skills to beat Covington on any given night. However, Covington is in Usman's head so Covington will eventually out work his opponent.

Usman is just gonna be too strong for Covington. Too tall and lengthy. Its an evident factor in mma. Like Jon and Isreal. Also, Colby has no power in his hands. I don't see him taking the belt from Marty.

Colby and kamaru of who’s the better wrestler is tough Ngl, didn’t really get to see much but I feel it would be kamaru just by a bit. Colby has better striking then kamaru, he’s improving and kamaru hasn’t been training with hand injury. Colby has better cardio and iq and kamaru has better defence.

I agree with, Sonnen and he knows how much more there is in addition to wresting in MMA . That's why I think the deciding factor will be the "striking." If Colby can repeat his performance against Robbie, then he'll decision Usman. He showed a 100% improvement from prior fights. The champ seems stronger than Colby. He'll need to keep it close and assert his strength against the cage. If Usman can't hang on his feet, perhaps we will see who is better on the ground. Because of the stand-up advantage of Covington, I think Usman will try more take-downs, and will probably succeed a few times. Great fight on the way!

Stop saying Ferguson won a JUCO championship. He won an NCWA National championship. Those are not the same things lol

If Colby was somewhat of a likeable guy in any way, i’d be somewhat of a fan. But this is hard, think he’s going to win.. Guess the 170 is screwed. Although, people love to hate so he might be on to something

Uncle Chael, I think it’s fair to say that it’s a mirror match. As far as wrestling skills goes for both fighters.
