Within the motocross industry, we are all familiar with the sacrifice families make for their children in order for them to race the biggest amateur motocross races in the country. Out of the thousands of families that chase this dream, only a select few ever garner the attention of a factory amateur team, let alone find themselves under the factory tent. This has always made us wonder: who are the gate keepers? How do they select the next talent? How do they manage the young children and their parents? The answer(s)? Enter the 2021 JS7 Spring National Championship in Wortham, TX and Wil Hahn, then Star Racing Yamaha 250 team manager.
ALL IN - Part Two: We sit down with Hahn to explore these very questions, while watching his current crop of athletes do battle at Freestone County Raceway. Hahn's open and point-blank insight into the process of finding the talent, how to keep them from imploding, to the glaring flaws within long-term factory amateur contracts, and the fact that most will never make their dreams a reality, sheds a light on the ALL IN mentality that both families and the factory amateur programs must have when, essentially, using their crystal ball to predict a future with a minimal rate of success.

Vlog Epicness, Yeah but I think Team Blue Yamaha is going a bit overboard with the whole championing the lesser quality rider because their parents don't have a lot of money...Some kids like Haiden have parents that contribute money to him and help him any way they can, which doesn't mean someone like Haiden doesn't want it just as bad as a poor kid...Some kids that keep winning like Haiden means he wants it bad.

@@OTCRock4one Absolutely just because the deegans are rich doesn’t mean that automatically qualifies him for a race or allows him to win. He is an actual beast on the bike. I’ve never seen a kid flow around a super mini like that.

@@genesis2187 I would agree. I raced for 13 years. Only ride for fun now, but I do agree. Deegan works bike better than anyone I have seen at his age when it comes to cornering and sending it. Money helps, but talent wins the game here. He is super talented, and the ones that are haters are obviously those that can't keep up with Haiden. It's very obvious. Even Gary Bailey had mentioned that Haiden is on another level for his age.

Watching this series and hearing the emotions in these men’s voices about these kids and what everyone involved in this sport goes through hits you right in the feels. I know there’s more to it, but I can’t help but wonder where that line is for parents with kids racing? If you let them be kids they won’t push themselves as hard as they can; but if you push them because you know this it can have catastrophic results for not just their potential career but their entire lives.

Great series so far, keep it going. Maybe showcase a rider where the parents invested everything into and turned into a bust, how that has effected their lives long term, like retirement and living conditions. This isn't stick and ball, its big $ commitment as you highlighted.

Honestly, I'm jealous of any of these kids that even have a shot at becoming pro. And in general, I feel like most motocross kids are already pretty spoiled just to even be doing the massively expensive sport. My parents never even allowed me to race growing up. I race now, but I'm 30 and too old obviously to ever make anything happen. I'm not complaining. Just sayin. haha

First and foremost, you must have the genetic gifts of an elite athlete, then you must cultivate the speed and racing savvy....without that genetic building block, however, it isn’t happening. I don’t care how bad you think you want it, or how much effort you put into it, if you don’t have the potential athletic ability to start with, you will never succeed past the amateur level.

Literally goes against what they were saying in this video.. Sadly. No disrespect Haiden is stupid fast. But I grew up watching a ton of kids just like him. Austin Stroupe, Nico Izzi.. Even Mike Alessi was predicted to be all time great - Mike dominated amatuer ranks - most kids that raced him on 85's did not like him at all lol. Think about Ryan V who got second to Mike all the time... Maybe Haiden turns pro and doesn't like it anymore and could make just as much money from his Youbtube channel without the pressure and tough schedule and just have fun. And that kid that Haiden made come in 2nd or 3rd all the time has the drive to win more than him because he didn't in the amatuers. But yah neva know - I guess will see and that's what makes this fun to watch.

as a non mx racer it is hard to understand how families can put pressure on kids to risk their safety and their life (career) for something so expensive and not so profitable when in comparison to other career paths. even crazier is that people get tired of doing even the most fun of activities when they are doing it for work.... mind blowwwing

Because family’s sacrifice everytbing they own to try and make their kid the next best thing.. preying to get that money back and 9times out of 10 it doesn’t work.. plus these kids have been racing and seriously grinding a strict diet and smashing the gym since they’re about 14/15.. so when they eventually turn pro at 19/20 they’re beat they have already had 5/6 years worth of pain missing out on what all their friends were doing
