I didn't really notice a volume difference but I noticed a difference in the tone of the sound.Im a guitarist so I might pick up tones differently than others. Thanks for the video. BTW I still shoot B55 .

Hello brother Tim Just want to say thank you for steering me back on the right path with my archery and share personal experience from about an hour ago. After 2 hours of shooting my hunting Weight 520grn from my 40# recurve bow took a break and resumed but the bow was making different sounds not happy and thought I had damaged the bow. Bottom line is the brace height had dropped from 8" to 7 3/4" reset back to 8" happy days again. Great work on the video's I subscribed 1st one. Ohh !! give paco a pat for me My mates and I have a saying On the Square and on the Level that you are Tim Kindest regards

G'day tim my 64inch 61lb longbow appreciates b55 it's deadly quiet and spits a 610gr arrow out around 187fps. The limbs are reflex deflex with 3 layers of bamboo and 2 of carbon. Thanks for sharing your video.

Tim , I think that they are very close in sound and noise level , also the bow without silencers is very quite.

I hear no discernible difference. Both very quiet. Glad to see you eliminating variables. That string follow bow is functional art.

Man that’s a tough call. I swear the second string (652) was just a tad quieter with more of the ASL characteristic “swish” sound. The D97 had it too but I heard less of it because some other string noise was a bit louder. Tough to explain. Also heard some residual “twang” post shot, probably because as you say, you don’t run any string dampers.

In my experience dynamic light 97 is louder on my black widow . I think I've got 4 or 5 brand new strings that have come with my bow . And I just don't like the sound of them it's not that very much louder it just I don't like the sound. I have 2 hybrid lumbos one is a Michael Treadway 68" lonbow 52lbs@32" draw and 1 is a RER 64" longbow 54lbs @ my draw. I use Black Eagle arrows because they still make shafts 33"&34" So long armed archers have something to shoot.😁

Which string had less hand shock? I'm trying to figure out how to reduce hand shock in my new 68" Farmington Apache Longbow
@longbowarcher1900s
@longbowarcher1900s Жыл бұрын
Hello Campfire Kodiak. It's been my experience that "handshock" or what I refer to as "recoil" is more likely caused by arrow weight and brace height issues rather than the string material. That's said, B-50 strings are heavier and do create some vibration compared to the lighter "fast flight" type strings. Most of my hunting bows are between 55 and 65 #so @28". In all these I find that an arrow between 575 all the way up to 750 grains perform very well with minimal "recoil". To light of an arrow is an excellent recipe for a noisy and jittery bow. Hope this helps.

@CampfireKodiak Yes wood arrows work really well. My go to for arrow shafts is Surewood Shafts. They are Douglas fir .

@@CampfireKodiak you can also try limb savers to help dampen vibrations, they make them for traditional bows. I put them on all my traditional bows!

There definitely was a difference in the sound of the 2 strings. The D97 had a "deader" sound, like a thump. The 652 had just a bit more "lively" sound, like a twang, but not much. I dont think the difference is enough to make a difference.

Hi Tim, After watching the video with the volume turned up a good bit, it appears to me that the 652 is a bit quieter, but it's really more of a timber difference in the tone of the sound. The D97 seems to produce a low thud type of sound versus the much higher pitched tone that is almost like a hiss. I have lost a bit of my upper tone hearing and so the 652 seem much quieter, but I didn't have my hearing aid in. So the question for us hunters is which sound scares the game you are hunting. If you go 30yds down range and get close to the line of flight, some arrow/broadheads give a whistle, hiss, or screech sound. Assuming you don't have that going on , I think you should be ok with either string, as hearing the string down range is greatly reduced. Interesting test though. BTW... I recently got my 45lb Bear Montana and some 500 grain carbons and started working on my form and instinctive aiming. My arrows are about 390gr with a 150gr field point. I just received my first set of VPA 200gr single bevel broadheads and will be shooting those soon. I have to order some 200gr field points to match the broadheads. All that said, it's a very quiet bow... Thanks for ll the advise. I have learned a lot from your talks and watching you shoot.

Hello Dan. Glad to hear youre on your way to getting your equipment the way you like it. Yes, all things being equal there is relatively no difference in "string noise" at 30 or even 20 yards. There is a small tone difference but really nothing to worry about. I shoot them all and am pretty successful. If I had to put my finger on one thing that attributes to bow noise above "most" everything else would be arrow mass weight. To light and you will have finicky arrow flight and a much noisier bow. Hope this helps

I have heard of some archers who make strings making as close to a D-77 as they could using D--97 and B-55 in alternating strings and even number of strings for this reason of older bows that can't take D-97 but can take the old D-77 like the old 1970's Bear Super Grizzly.

There is that is a string between the 2 D-97 and 652 Spectra that I have They call Dynama/Dynima string Not the Dynaflight 97 but a different string basically a precursor to Spectra 652 I have on one bow (cam with an okay design endless loop B-55) and there is a faster string that really only Cabon fiber limbs can take as it was made first for modern high FPS compounds as they were shredding on the Cams the previous Spectra 652 it is some kind of string I have never heard of before and is only from the early 2010's. Mainly target ILF guys use the string if they are finding the D-97 or Spectra 652 not enough and have carbon fiber backed or center limbs. GREAT PLAINS TRADITIONAL BOW COMPANY has a bow model or 2 with inner core of carbon fiber and a thin layer of outer fiberglass to the limbs that can take this faster string but more reality to have a more durable bow for weather resistance and a longer lasting bow.
