GOOD ramen is literally a life changing experience. In 2019, I was still recovering from one of the worst stomach bugs I've ever had when I went on a trip to California to see my brother, and we went to this little hole in the wall ramen shop with a giant Gundam model/statue in the dining area. I could hardly hold down food, and hadn't been able to eat a real meal in days, even recovering, but I was able to eat most of my bowl of chashu ramen, and the only reason I couldn't finish it was because over the course of being sick, my stomach had shrank because it had been empty for so many days, and I got "can barely walk to the car" full. Personally, I really like Udon noodles, but there's a GOOD damn reason ramen is so popular. First real ramen I'd ever had. Good noodles in ramen are important, yeah, but more important is a good broth. You can put instant noodles and all your toppings in a good ramen broth and still have it be one of the best meals you've ever had.

And how would you know you have the skills to effectively use the internet to solve your problems? At the end of the day, you would still need some form of exam. I somewhat agree that there needs to be a huge revision in school curriculum to accommodate the all-knowing, always available internet. That said abolishing tests is not the way. Exams were never made to cram knowledge into your brain indefinitely. They are merely "sprint" exercises for your brain. Point is, Google can answer your question, but it won't matter if you don't even know how to ask, and what to make of the results.

The solution is open book exams. In university there are already exams where you are allowed to take as many notes as you like to into the exam and use them to do your work. No internet, though, as then you could just let someone else do your work, which is obviously no solution in a work environment. Still, that comes quite close to a real-life situation. Schools just need to adapt that. Contrary to what people may think, those exams tend to be harder, though. Because now the easiest kind of question, the one where you just have to repeat what you were told, isn't there anymore. Now they all require thinking.

@@Taubenkill0r I wish we had that in College. :( I think that rote memorization should be fostered to an extent, and studies should be made to address at what level could it be detrimental to learning. Personally, I don't read books anymore, and do metal exercises similar to exams. All my reminders and work are tied to google apps. As a 30 year-old who has been thoroughly been washed with KZbin and other distractions, I sometimes struggle with finding terms and people's names. I'm worried that younger people would depend too much on technology, and slow their development.

I'm actually a fan of exams. They allowed me to test out of 3/4 of my degree. CLEP ( College level exam program) Testing Allows you to get full class credit just by taking the test. If you have a good battery working knowledge of subject areas, you can take the tests cold with no cramming. Sure, being able to look up. Knowledge is one thing, but so is being able to just practically put it to use without taking the time to have to look things up.

I'm in my 2nd year of college now and College is much better in my course its mostly continuous and practical assessment or project assessment for grading

Rather than get rid of exams, the way they test your knowledge and comprehension should go back to actual comprehension instead of relying almost solely on memorization. Memorizing factoids and tiny segments of text is not the same as understanding the material, and this is why many people do not retain that information in their head afterward. On the other hand if you truly understand a subject, or at least have a fairly high interest in it you are more likely to retain that information and would be more effective at utilizing it and discussing topics involving it. Removing exams entirely would make it more likely that people would be incapable of properly utilizing knowledge. Think of it this way if a doctor just looks everything up they're going to end up giving you a WebMD level diagnosis, because they aren't actively comprehending the information, they're just relaying what the internet says it 'could' be. An actually skilled doctor would be able to hypothesize a number of potential causes and then work with the patient to find out which is the case.

If exams where an actual test of your information retention, like in math and science, then they would be just fine. And yeah schools should be teaching people HOW to think, not WHAT to think.

You do need critical thinking, analytical thinking and deep comprehension to do specialize things like research, engineering, medicine etc., those who just search in the internet won't be able to do those things just because they look it up on the internet, some might be able to, but those are the exceptions and not the rule. You also needs hands on experience for many things not just technical knowledge, which why I think apprenticeship should be promoted. Also exams are easy I don't get how people fail, I take my licensure exam with full confidence that I will pass, that shit was easy, I don't get it why almost 60% of the examinees failed. I do think amendments should be done for the education system, as many kids really can't follow the current curriculums and parents aren't helping kids on making them like studying, so kids grew up thinking that studying is a chore and kids don't like chores. And with the rise of influencers, kids see and easy way out, but only few of them will succeed in that realistically speaking. There needs to be change on how the government, teachers, parents and children view education
@FizzDoesContent
@FizzDoesContent Жыл бұрын
"Also exams are easy I don't get how people fail" Well because your teacher didn't force you to remember the books. My teachers always do this "Read, read ,read and then repeat the same thing you read on the exam" And when we failed the exam they ask us why do we fail. First, we don't understand it since we mostly didn't experience it ourselves. Most of the thing I learn comes from experience. For me science is the best subject. I get to do experiments a lot and I surprisingly do well on science. "There needs to be change on how the government, teachers, parents and children view education" Yes, I find it hard to believe that my cousins say that they learns more from me than their teachers at school. One of the factor I think is because I only teach one person at a time so they get to ask, learn and my attention always goes to them. Some of my cousins are shy so maybe that's one of the reason.

I literally had 3 exams today, back to back to back. How crazy is it that I you talk about it lol, what a coincidence. I also comepletely agree with what you say, literally 2 days later, I would fail because I had to just cram everything into my head just to puke it all out and then forget the next day.

"Unless you get a degree and that degree is what you do for your career path?" Why would anyone get a degree in a useless thing that doesn't benefit them? That's such a waste of money and time since you can literally just learn all that for free if you never plan to use that info in your job then a degree is pointless as a degree just states I am proficient in these skills that are used to get your first job on your new career path.
