I thought they played good last night, especially compared to previous games. The main issue I saw was that they were taking way too many low percentage shots with zero traffic. Of course the goalie is going to make 45 saves when 90% of your shots come from the blue line with no screen.

That is exactly my observation of last nights game, there was nothing in the way of net front presence for the Wings! The coach was interviewed on the bench during a break in the action and he was saying how the capitals goalie was getting good looks at the puck!! Well duh yes tell your players to make an effort to hinder their goalies vision!

Boys are cooked. It was bound to happend. After completely Fucking up that 8 point cushion they had in a WC spot. Games like this, getting goalied were bound to happen. Lotta people gonna point to the 4 pointers we've lost like against Caps, Penguins, etc but those two Arizona games were to me, where it started to go badly wrong. Those two games really stick in my mind. Sent skidding by the Yotes, its fucking embarassing. It was as early as that when I knew we didn't deserve a post season.

For weeks the RW appear to play only, dump and chase. Red Wings play was much improved last night using a lot more puck possession. RW looked good last night, but got beat by a hot goalie. Lastly, young players are getting at taste of the pressure of play off hockey. Hopefully, RW continue puck possession strategy for rest of season.

It would be helpful if debricat would stop being hero struck by Kane and just shoot the puck. We got him to score not to “setup” his hero. Separate the two. Then you have two lines that can score. A veteran coach would have done this a long time ago

I watched the Colorado Minnesota game immediately after and the level of intensity and battling for the puck was like night and day. Granted Colorado is much better team but individuals control their intensity and competitiveness.

The Wings were a different team when they were winning, even beating, teams like Boston, Toronto, Florida, Vancouver, and even as sweeping Tampa. How do you go from that, to losing your arse when you clearly had a path, just like Tampa currently has, to seal at least the last wildcard spot? Everybody was talking about the Wings not long ago, not only passing Tampa, but challenging for the 3rd in their division. What in the sandhill happened to that idea going forward? It not only became a dream, not making the playoffs has, in fact, become a reality.....

There were months where they played above their talent level (Jan and Feb), and months where they played below (Dec and Mar). It’s basically balanced out. Hopefully they win out and make the playoffs, but…if not, there will be roster changes and they’ll make it next year. Teams like Tampa, Boston, NY Islanders, Pittsburgh, Washington…they’re all regressing. Teams like the Wings, Devils and Sabers will take their place.

The end of season collapse is becoming tradition. It's a really, REALLY bad habit that started with Blashill and has reared its ugly head twice under Lalonde. Its what happens when you dont do anything useful for the team at the trade deadline. Sorry Stevie, but this team needed some new blood. Petry, Perron, etc aint making it. Could have brought Edvinnson up sooner. Struck out on Berggren who is starting to worry me. The ball is being fumbled in several areas.

I like McCarty and loved the way he played for the Wings back in the 1990s and 2000s, but I think he's wrong here. It's not a question about whether or not they've improved from last year, the Wings HAD AT LEAST 5+ GAMES UP ON THOSE 3 LOSER TEAMS (CAPS, ISLES, AND PENS), and gave them (so did the Flyers) a chance to get into the playoffs. The Wings have no defense other than with Edvinnson, a rookie who has shown the other defensemen that he can play at both ends of the rink, not just at one end. Defense and puck possession is everything to winning in hockey. If the Wings don't make the playoffs this season, the players who didn't contribute during March should pound sand before asking for a contractual extension or a new lucrative contract. Don't think Stevie Y should have given Rasmussen that much money in his new contract. Don't think he's worth it, at least not yet.

To be honest, none of the real fans would throw kaner under a bus, its just these shitberg v-bloggers on youtube, they love to create in-fighting. Anything for views. If Kane leaves in the summer (and I believe he will, we are too pathetic for a guy like him) I'll be gutted like a fish. Yep, been saying it since he got traded. Big mistake. We dont have any players who like to live in goalies faces. Bertuzzi used to wear goalies like an overcoat......he was the grease in the crease.....we have NO netfront presence without him. We dont score enough dirty crease scrums and no Bertuzzi is the reason why. For a team who aspires to reach the playoffs to trade out a playoff specialist type player like him, is unforgivably bad. Watching him light it up in Boston last year was the biggest slap in the face I've had for a looooong time. Then he ends up in Toronto. Another fucking insult. And it all starts with the unbelivably bad decision to trade him. Nobody ever wants to mention it because thats a huge L trade by Stevie and you cant criticize the boss in Detroit, they only want to talk about his W trades. Another criticism you wont see mentioned, standing pat at this years deadline...,another doozy move that people want to conveniently ignore.

You do realize that many people who didn’t grow up or live in Detroit are fans of other teams that do root for your Detroit Red Wings, right? The Red Wings aren’t just a regional team, they’re very much an international team. Millions of people around the world root for the Red Wings because 1, It’s their team. 2, Detroit has always had really good players that fans of other teams admired and looked up to. 3, Detroit somehow got a lot of great Russian players so there’s a tremendous amount of Detroit fans that live in Russia. 4, The great rivalry between Detroit and Colorado was among the best in the 90s. 5, How could any hockey purest (fan) not like Steve Yzerman? So I suggest that maybe you shouldn’t put down fans of teams like Washington and New York because there are many fans of both teams that do root for Detroit if their team doesn’t make the playoffs or when their team gets knocked out. I’m all for getting rid of the loser point but as it stands right now? This is how the NHL works and the blame for Detroit’s losing streak is on the players. I don’t know if the HC sucks? I do know if he does. Steve should have let him go. Also, the coaches can only coach they can’t play the game. If the players aren’t playing up to their capabilities? That’s on the players!

Lalonde was supposed to be gone some time ago, but I figured he needed reprieve as the Wings j hung on to a playoff birth until just after the trade deadline. Then, all bets were off. With the exception of Kane, Debrincat, and Raymond, the coaching staff and the UFAs need to leave Detroit ASAP. They did nothing to help this team stay pace for the playoffs during March. Too bad Stevie Y didn't give Lalonde and those rentals an ultimatum just prior to the trade deadline. The coaching staff and the rentals disappeared off the charts and became nonexistent during that losing stretch which put the Wings on this position. Come on, Stevie Y! Get rid of all of 'em except those who produced during that March stint. What they did to Stevie Y was a slap in the face. Stevie Y trusted the staff and the roster by sticking with the same players for the rest of the season rather than making attempts to get rid of some of these UFAs, and what did these players do? They didn't show up to play and are now trying to make up for March's losses. These guys played pathetically during March ----- especially with no defense. It took for a rookie from the Griffins to put some confidence back in the D, but it's too little, too late. Get rid of the moochers who wanted the multi-million $ contracts, yet they didn't care to make sacrifices in the win column. You don't blow a 5+ game lead on those teams that were literally out of the race, but the Wings and the Flyers both allowed for the Caps, Isles, and Pens to get back on it. A nightmare for the Wings a d Caps, a Cinderella story for the other 3 teams which should be getting ready to watch the playoffs at home....

It's Lalonde and his assistants, as well as the UFAs/rentals who stood by and allowed for the Wings chances at the playoffs to dwindle to zero, going forward..... Stevie Y is the victim here, Neil!!! Those who need the boot are Lalonde, the assistants, and those who did literally nothing during that March stretch to be overtaken by loser teams like the Caps, the Isles, or the Pens. And yeah, the rules for being rewarded for losing on overtime is suspect at best, but it may also be construed as overreaching. Why? Well,.if the Wings were in the Isles spot, what would this discussion be about then, knowing that those crazy rules favored the Wings? Ponder that for a second. It just seems crazy that the Wings had a huge cushion and blew it to these other teams. Good luck next season.

Reimer is hot garbage thats why he doesnt get to play. He was the one who ducked under the puck earlier in the season and let in the most bizarre goal you've ever seen. Husso has been too busy pretending to be injured so he can enjoy his new kid......which leaves Lyon who is better than both of those guys but who has been ridden into the ground. If you saw Lyon at his best, and not overworked worse, you would never in a million years suggest putting Reimer in goal in front of him. I spat my coffee out when I read that - you obviously havent seen Reimer this year.

To answer DMac…if somebody told me they acquire Debrincat & Kane and they win 38 games instead of 35, I say it’s not the bump/step up you expect. It’s not the apocalypse. It’s just disappointing they didn’t take a bigger step forward. If they play like they did the 2nd period vs Washington, they’re going to lose 2-3 out of 4 for sure. The facts are they’re not playing their best hockey or even good solid hockey when they need to. Period.

The fans want what they are told to expect and value for what they pay for. Any fan that has attended games this year has their email culled into the DRW marketing machine and we've been bombarded with the "sign up for your Playoff tickets now!!!" emails waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay before anyone could start hoping the Wings could make the playoffs. The commercials ad nauseum over and over on tv, "register for Playoff Tickets!!!" And any fan that has attended games this year has most likely spent hundreds of dollars on tickets, parking, and concessions for 2 seats--I can't imagine a family affording going to a game especially at this point in time with everything costing so much more. Why is anyone surprised that the fans want someone held accountable? It's costing them, too! REGARDLESS of the product the fans see on the ice, they've been sold the idea the team is playoff capable. Hold the Wings organization accountable for the fans hostility. They begged for it.

I wanted to give up on Raymond last year and that's why I'm not the GM. By the way Nathan Mackinnon had like 68 points his first couple seasons..7 years later or so he's at 137..so we need to let these 21 and 22 year old kids grow. With a better more established harder coach like a Gallant I believe these kids get tougher. I like Lalonde actually..but he let's the team be too soft. We need some fire behind the bench.

Kane shooting the puck as often as he used to would be great. He looks to pass way too much. We need a goal scorer. Shoot the puck, get the rebound. I expected a lot better.

Patrick Kane has never been a goal scorer as a primary, he’s a playmaker. He enables the team around him to be better (which has been obvious this year). He’s only been over the 40 goal mark twice in his career (30 only three times). But I agree that this team needs a go to scorer for the future.

Here is my problem with the coaching and some of the players who are not stepping up to this point, McCarty. If the coach showed emotion at all on the bench and called a timeout to yell at the whole team after giving up 2 quick goals. Or if he pulled Lyon after a bad goal to wake up the team, then maybe I might like him more or could see he hates losing. I want to see players breathing so hard when they get back to the bench, become they have absolutely skated their asses from crashing the net shift after shift. If I could see the players absolutely doing everything they could to check every chance they get & block shots. I see us going around the net and avoiding the tough areas to score goals and then when they get there, they either hesitate to shoot or pass, then by the time they do, they usually pass, instead of taking the shot and going to the net for a rebound…or their supporting teammates going straight to the net for the rebounds. I do not see the heart in these players that are willing to skate straight down the middle to drive to the net, as if nothing will stop them. Make the opposing defense do everything they can to try and stop you. I don’t see the fire or raw determination from most of the players to score. I want to see the coach yelling at players and the players breaking their sticks over their knees when they blow a scoring chance. I want to see they are pissed at themselves or their teammates when they blow a game. I just don’t see anything from the coach or most of the players when they absolutely blow a game they should have won! If I see that fire from them and see they are doing EVERYTHING they can for the team, their fans, their coach and the winged wheel on the front of the jersey they represent and the city they play for…then I would not feel so bad when we lose. I see a lot of “no big deal” attitude from the coach especially, but I don’t see many players giving their every last ounce of strength to do what they can to win. Excuses is all I hear for them and the coach at the end of each lame interview they give. Every player sounds so monotone and say the same lame lackluster comments after each loss. I’m sick of these last 10 years or so of not calling out that the team sucked or the player saying they played terrible and they will play way better next game. There is no calling out that the other team got lucking or the refs screwed us, because no one is willing to pay a stupid fine or something. It’s ridiculous how Ball-less the coach is on himself or the team after the game. They need to call out their team, their coach, the coach call out the players or do whatever you have to get the team ready to win the next game. If you have to get everyone pissed at each other to get a fire under their ass to play better. I would be so happy to see anger and not all this lack of testosterone in these pathetic interviews after a game, when the whole team should have came out and ready to destroy the other team that is on our home ice!!! 😤😡😤😡 I just don’t see this team really trying to win and fix it the next game and the coach is a big part of that and the captain being ready to implement the coaches plan to the players that need to step up every shift. Why not go out and show every fan how much you want to win for them? I just don’t see everyone on the ice giving their all to win. Winning is all that matters. Of course you’re going to lose, but if everyone sees you did everything possible to win night in and night out, then the fans will support you so much more. I just don’t see anything from this coach Lalonde that he hates to lose. We need a couch that is brash with his comments and not all nice with his lame excuses. We need a coach that winning is all that matters. Call out the players that slacked in interviews and don’t be all politically correct in responses. I’m just sick of the lackluster performances and hardly any accountability taken for the lame offense that doesn’t shoot first and ask questions later mentality. 😤

And you will never see Lalonde pull a goalie because he listens only to the goalie coach when there is a meltdown, and the goalie coach's advise is ALWAYS to leave him in to let him work it out. Its only ever worked once, and they've been riding that one timer ever since.

Watch how many shots from the d men get blocked or don't get taken when there is net front presence. Their d is too old or just plain and simply a liability for the position they're supposed to be playing. You want to blame the coach, that's fine, but tell me one free agent they got in the off-season who was in high demand, none of them were, and dont say Debrincat because if he was in high demand then Ottawa would have resigned him or he would've gotten more money from Detroit. They have no legit 2c, and aside from Larkin and Raymond they have 0 forwards who can drive the puck deep in the offensive zone and do something besides stoo and turn at the half wall to give the ouck to an open dman who will either miss the net or turn the puck over. Kane is great but dont tell me hes a driver, he doesn't have that game anymore, he can dangle but once someone catches up to him he's easily pushed off the puck, and none of their forwards aside from Larkin play anything remotely resembling defense or if they do they're too slow to kove with it up the ice or just too slow to get it out of the defensive zone before the other team forces a turnover. They have no starting goalie. They have 3 million in dead money they didn't spend this year, abdlekader is still getting paid 1 million til 2025, maybe the real question is if the old man illitch were still alive, do you think this would be happening, you really think a guy who basically bought the 02 cup would be happy with 3 million left on the table, with no pursuit of a high end free agent who can play 2c or a friggin starter at goalie? I dont think so, the garbage patch is indicative of who owns this team now, a giant screw up son who would take 15 million to insult the franchise and his father and ask stevie to leave some money behind so he could go scarface after the season ends. But yeah keep blaming lalonde for giving him recycled garbage as free agents and hasbeens, yes to some extent that includes Kane because he's not the same Kane he was during his prime years, then dress it up with a grabage bow on the shoulder. Good luck Coach. This team foes not have more talent than kadt year or the year before or the year before that just because they got Debrincat. Teams figured out to clog the defensive blue line and push the forwards to the outside because they have niether the speed nor the physicality to drive the puck through the other team. Good teams, playoff teams have this on every line. Detroit can maybe put one line together that resembles this and you think they have enough talent to be better than what they are. They are overachieving for what they have on their roster, but yes lets fire Lalonde.

This team doesn't have an identity. They seem to think they are more skilled than they really are and are unwilling to grind for the ugly goals that win games. They play behind the net more than in front of it. There are too many third string, soft players on this team (and on Grand Rapids) that they need to move on from.

Eh... we really don't have the guys, as evidenced. We have a $5 million dollar man playing bottom-6 because Stevie thought (and he had every reason to think this, so I don't blame him) he'd be better than he has been. We're paying $4 million to a defenseman whose sole purpose is to QB a power play unit. There are clearly some personnel issues that's gonna have to get resolved in the summer if we want to continue seeing forward movement. And to be extremely clear, I'm not blaming Stevie. I'm not blaming Lalonde. If we miss, it's on the boys themselves, and their inability to pick up the baton and run with it while our captain is out. We are a good team. We're not a great team. The Isles might make it in by virtue of the loser point and get swept out, but we would only make it in barely and also get bounced relatively quickly. We made progress this season, and I'm happy to see it. You wanna know what sucks? Seeing a team like CBJ lay it all out there on the line, empty the cupboards in an attempt to win now, miss that mark entirely, and go right back to scraping the crap off the floor of the standings. That feels bad, and I'm damn glad Stevie isn't stupid enough to try a deadline splash like that.

@@-Nv-94 Been watching them for over 30 years. I'm disabled and I have a lot of time on my hands. I bleed red and white and I watch 60+ games a year. I saw it all from Roy getting chase out of Montreal. To the Russian 5. Draper getting his face smashed. Yzermans double OT winner. The fight at the Joe. Datsyuk's entire career. I saw a lot of cool shit over the years. I was under no illusion it was going to last forever. I knew sooner or later they'd have to rebuild. One day they'll return to greatness. I saw them at their worst a couple years ago. This year was a big improvement. I want them to be serious contenders again. Not just making the playoff by the skin of their ass to get stomped in the first round.

I blame the veterans not stepping up. the players who are supposed to be goal scorers not stepping up. questionable coaching with line combos and even not bringing up Edvinsson earlier. Stevie is to blame at some part by signing players like Perry, Holl, Reimer etc. these mediocre players being brought in proving they’re no help.
