Who's to blame? The media, for blowing things so far out of proportion that there is no longer a way out. Professional athletes management and coaches could have got past the problems. But it is clear the media has been doing nothing but antagonizing the players and making the situation worse. The Canucks are going to need a full rebuild after this (as Linden wanted so many years ago). Likely losing Hughes in the process (along with the rest of the core)

The reason it was not much of an issue last year is because you had a new coach and players are "uneasy" initially and rally around each other BUT evidently you get comfortable with the coach and you go back to your natural instincts. Guys like Miller will ALWAYS be a problem. If not with Petterson, it will be someone else. Get rid of him, its additional by subtraction. You cannot win with a toxic dressing room.

Yeah, Miller probably tested Tocchet out what he could get away with. When he realised Tocchet loves him as a player, he probably ramped up his old Petey beef.

I haven't been the biggest Miller fan through all of this going back to the Bo Horvat trade and the last time he was involved in a locker room rift, but saying no comment is probably the best thing he can do. Regardless of how much of it is his fault, I'm sure he just wants it to be over. Granted, both Pettersson AND Miller signed their contracts AFTER this whole thing started. They were already well into their problems and they still both resigned. At the time, I didn't think Miller would quite get the same offer from other teams. Given Pettersson's age, where the cap was going, what Nylander got, and coming off a 100 point season, market value was what it was. If Miller had been 5 years older, he might have gotten close to 10 at the time he signed the contract, but he wasn't. He was 30. If he's butthurt about a younger guy scoring 100 points faster than him and getting more money as a result (at a completely different time) he's the one who needs to grow up. You've got 8 million bucks, man. A contract you signed. If that is indeed part of the reason for the animosity, JT needs to act his age. He's older than Pettersson. For all the talk of Elias being "immature," he's 25 years old. Miller is in his early 30s. It's like blaming a kid when their parents are the grown ups and didn't act appropriately. I'm just done with it.

He (Rutherford) gave his player a chance (or several chances, it seems) to change and solve it internally, but pathological issues are hard to just "change". I used to be good friends with a GM of one of Europe's top hockey organizations - when he got the job he told me, he was so excited to enter sports industry, only to realize within a very short period that, while the product is about sports, it is modern entertainment business. In Europe the playoffs are the big money makers and each organization has huge pressure to get in there to make it a financially good season. Having said that, JT and Pettersson are in the end people. They are not paid as people but their compensation is a direct reflection of their expected point, goal production, and the +/- at the end of the regular season. Not only are all of these parameters down the toilet for both (Miller has 9 goals and is a minus 4! Pettersson has 11 goals and is a minus three (both cover about 18% of their salary cap and produce almost nothing)). Not only don't they produce, they negatively affect the rest of the team - consequence, if you don't produce - we trade you and we do not care about your name or status. Hence, trade them both

Did you see JT Miller's lazy give away in the 3rd period last night? To Nyqvist? One example of many. Miller also has less points per minute, is older, is unprofessional, acts hypocritical (does not put up and shut up) and like I said gives away pucks like nobody else when he plays lazy. So in essence: Miller has been afforded SIGNIFICANTLY more time playing with much better players than EP40, gets more minutes, and produces less. The hypocrisy needs to end. Jeff O'Neill needs to bow down to the following: 1. Mats Sundin would have chosen EP40 over Miller. For production and talent. And added 5-10 kg muscle over 3 years. 2. He also would have harnessed the positive aspects of Miller (face offs) and contained his hypocrisy. Kept him grounded. This would be no issue whatsoever under Mats. Point your fingers at Tocchet. Give EP40 some supplements.

Constructive criticism goes a LONG way. If you're just being toxic and throwing a temper tantrums, it's just gonna go one into one ear and come out the next. This was all Tocchet’s fault. When Petey was having a rough start to the season and playing soft, the coaching staff asked Miller to rough up Petey to get him to play hard. Miller did that which lead to him calling Petey a baby. Well why a coach be stupid enough to get two guys who don’t like each other to begin with to antagonize the other. It was after that when things went downhill fast. So yeah it’s all Tocchet’s dumb tactics that lead to this
