I have always rode Harley Davidson, but one of the finest choppers I ever owned was a Honda 750..

At 66 I always ride alone. I did the biker club scene in the 70s. I know guys that I talk to if we meet but they are no friends of mine. I keep all people at arms length until I know a bit about them. Past lessons hard learned. As you say Itchy you have to be careful. Great video and catch you later Aussie Bob.

I found my place in life many decades ago thanks to a group of guys who showed me what true brotherhood was by living what they believed. These guys were as real and as hard as they come, but they were in no way ruthless savages. They were outcasts and outlaws, but they were all heart, and loyalty, integrity, honor, and brotherhood weren't merely words or abstract concepts, but principles by which they lived. No citizen ever came to any harm by their hands unless they pushed themselves way beyond the line. Which didn't happen often. Most of them are gone, there aren't very many men left like them, but they live on in the good that they instilled in myself and more than a few others. They were the embodiment of the true biker culture and of brotherhood, and were more than willing to pass their legacy on to others who they deemed worthy of calling brother. They did this not for material gain or fame, but in the spirit of true brotherhood, so that the lifestyle might perpetuate itself in the years to come. Sadly, in spite of their efforts, and the efforts of men like themselves, the real, authentic biker culture seems to have run it's course, and is fading into the memories of an ever decreasing number of us. I'm not putting anyone down, as I realize the world moves on and peop!e can only be what the world of today allows them to be, but the bikers of today, all of the now many factions of them have no idea what they are being cheated out of. There seems to be so much division and contention among motorcyclists of today that I don't see how anyone can find any enjoyment in it. It seems that everyone is at odds with everyone else over just about everything. If my memory serves me correctly, this foolishness started in the mid eighties with people starting to ask foolish questions like "What is a Biker" and "what is Brotherhood". Hell, it was unbelievable that those things were even up for debate! Back then, everyone in our world knew who and what they were. A solid person was a solid person no matter who or what the circumstances were, and an asshole was an asshole. A person was what they were whether they rode a Harley or not. Some assholes rode Harleys, but they still would've been assholes even if they were walking. In fact tho, it does seems that assholes who did start riding Harleys increased in assholeness. They usually didn't last long tho. Well, I just kinda wandered off there Itchy, but I wanted to say that you seem to have a good handle on things, and speak from experience and with wisdom, and mite could set some of these younger guys on the right path. Its commendable that you care enough to try to make a difference, and you are proof that not all of us Harley riders are icky. There is no such thing as a wannabe, only will bes, never will bes, and always will bes. The will bes would do well to pay heed to you, and by the way, you are the first person I've ever subscribed to on here. Ride safe!

itchymoche Thanks my friend, but you're doing a damned good job. No doubt that we have travelled some of the same roads, and I'm happy to see that you are trying to impart to some future brother that wisdom gained only by living the life. That tells me there is still some hope yet, and that you will probably touch something in some who really desire to experience what its really all about. I'm far too old, ornery, and bent to mentor anyone. Keep on keeping on.

Remember back in the day all of those guys weren't too far removed from WW2. Japan had attacked us and was a savage enemy. Imagine how we'd look at bikes if the Taliban or ISIS made them.

You hit the nail on the head , a true brother has your back , will be there for you till he is gone , I have been that tight with 5 guys in 40 years . the last 5 years I been riding with 1 guy he is my brother best friend I help him he helps me , he did move to FL in june of 2014 but come back Dec , he hit a all time low I was ready to go get him in Sep , but he had demons on his back . he stayed with me from Dec to April and we went back to FL to get his stuff he was able to get a apartment next door to the one he was at . I fix his bike and he helps me do whatever im doing Im a Jack of all master of none . Brotherhood is a thing of the past , it use to be if you road with a group of people , and someone past away, you all road to the services and cemetery . it no longer happens . Things have changed everything is fast forward . Im to laid back for that .

I had a Harley, and one of my friends from high school had one too. He got into a motorcycle club and invited me to go on a ride with him. I went. Saw his club. They thought I should join, I think. I didn't want anything to do with them. You had to be just like them, dress like them. I think they were nuts.

Well said! That's why probating for Club is important. It's not so just the club can watch you and see if they want you as a member. It's also for you to decide if that club is fit for you

Itchy, great video and advice. Riding in a group is always fun, but being on the road alone has its place too. I was never one who needed to join a club to feel like I am a "biker". Being a biker is about being on the bike and enjoying the ride, enjoying the people I meet. I have MC's that hang out in some of the places I am known to stop at, some of the MC's are for a cause and others you can sense the trouble. Being fairly new to motorcycling (within the past 5 years) I can say that almost everyone I have met who was also riding have been very approachable and friendly. If there are people wearing colors I tend to just stay away, unless they strike a conversation. Everyone rides for a different reason, riding for me is an escape from the stresses of ordinary life. There is no other enjoyment than when the wife is on her bike and we can enjoy a nice ride (wherever that takes us). If you read this, my next question to you is: how would you describe a hardcore biker? Is it living the lifestyle, is it the extreme rider (all seasons, for example), is it everything (i.e. joining a club, being an extreme rider, having a passion for the hobby)?

I'm so glad I wasn't biking back in the day. I'm a science nerd. I don't have a tattoo. I don't have a beard. Ride a Yamaha XSR900 and I try to ride every day. I don't need a club. Just a road and destination. Safe riding to all!

In the sixties a lot of MC's seemed to represent freedom and doing whatever the hell they wanted regardless of societies judgements. But now it seems like being a member of some of these clubs like working for a huge corporation or under the rule of an oppressive govt. (lots of rules and obligations about everything) It doesn't seem to be about a bunch of crazy guys bonding together in search of freedom anymore.

Sounds like checking out M C clubs that you're interested in by watching Gangland episodes about that particular M C club you're interested in. That way you find out whether or not that M C club is a good fit for your lifestyle or not. That way you don't waste either or the potential M C clubs time or get involved in something you'd rather not get involved in. Harriet Seibert

...A brother is a brother regardless if they are bikers...no difference whatsoever...something significant in the biker circles is there always has to be at least one tuff guy with a big mouth...never understood the logic nor stupidity behind this...nor do I ever suffer such ignorance...riding a motorcycle doesn't make one tuffer than a guy whom chooses never to ride...I think my girl got it rite when she said once...in those tuff/big mouth cases it is a cover for either a small duck or tiny mind lol...no motorcycle can compensate for the foolishness that the latter can demonstrate ...and no woman is ever fooled by either lol...either way these idiots are always easy to spot...they are always trying to belittle or pic on someone weaker than they are lol...
