Your might consider making a dairy cow part of the herd- she would be able to feed more than one.

I work cattle all day, get my butt kicked, then relax by watching you work cattle. That crazy huh? When we get twins the first thing I think is “Here comes an even bigger workload”. You had a good outlook with your twins, great work.

Twins again! Good for you. Fun to watch the 4 H steers tear that bale up. Lots of energy there. Thanks for the video.

I thought the 4H steers were going to destroy that bale a lot more, oh well, it was still fun to see

Why not consider giving the mother a bit of assistance with better and more feed, as the days get warmer you pasture feed should come away.. Or allow the cow to rear the calf you prefer, someone is sure to be handy who would buy the other calf as they may have lost a calf. Thanks again for sharing your work routine with us.

Udder size has 0% to do with quantity of milk Been in dairy and beef over 30 yrs If it was me : The cow with twins appears lean from carrying them, id remove 1 calf to keep cow in condition to feed the other

You are spot on. At the moment she is feeding both, she at least has milk in all quarters now. I agree, I don't think she can raise 2 good calves, plus there will be nothing left of her.

What's the identifier on the top of your visual tags above the animal's ID? Dam or sire?
@TwinElmFarms
@TwinElmFarms Жыл бұрын
The big number is the calf ID. Our heifers start at 1 and the tags are big, bull calves start at 100 and the tags are small. The small number is the dam

That's what I thought. You bought a 90X cow of mine several years back (Poplar Park), wondered if she might be the dam of 35G
@TwinElmFarms

@seannytt lol 👋. We got a lot more then just her that are linked to your farm. We even have a number that we bought and still have, 52B that just calved was from you along with 5 other cows 191E, 16B, 26E, 66C and 24B. Which have offspring here as well. Hope you enjoy the videos.

Great to hear they've done well for you! I've moved my cows west to AB but the family farm is still going strong back home. If you're still in the market for any bull power this upcoming spring have a look at my consignments to the Western Prime Sale this weekend. I'm sure we could get them to Elm Creek if needed! Quite enjoy the videos, keep em coming.

@seannytt that 35G is a diamond cutter. We are getting our bulls semen tested this week, hopefully they all pass. But we will take a look at the sale. Glad your enjoying the videos

Hi! Do you sincronaize your caws? Haw can you have them calv so good? Thank you!
@TwinElmFarms
@TwinElmFarms Жыл бұрын
A cow cycles every 21 days and we have 20-30 cows per bull. The hope is that they get bred before the 3rd cycle is up. So then calving only should last 2 and a half months. Longer this year cause we bought some bred heifers that started 3 weeks before our herd. Did that answer your question?
@florinman265
@florinman265 Жыл бұрын
@@TwinElmFarms OK, thanks! Soo they come in heat naturally? No injections involved for sincronaizing theme? What is happening if some caws don't come in to the heat in those 2.5 months? Thank you!
@TwinElmFarms
@TwinElmFarms Жыл бұрын
@florinman265 The cows that only get bulls come in heat naturally, and the majority of our cows have come into heat at least once already. The AI and embryo we sync.

@florinman265 if a cow doesn't get bred we cull that cow.

looks like you guys need to clean the crap up in that yard.... my Dads place never looked so gross when our calves were calving YUCK!!!!!
@TwinElmFarms
@TwinElmFarms Жыл бұрын
I'm not sure what climate you farmed in but the straw bed pack creates heat in our winter and the cows stay warmer with that. But now things are warming up and everything gets gross and yucky when it thaws. Now that we don't need the heat from the bed pack.... the barn will hopefully get cleaned out this coming week and the outside bedding will start to need a ton of straw to keep animals clean, healthy and dry.
