I sold my 939 Spider 1750 whte interior leather red my 2009 for 14.900 E. I installed mode4cars, so i can open/close the roof with the normal key.

Love how it looks but after blowing up a 2.4 engine last December, I don't really trust these engines anymore, sure they are fun but they will explode on you the moment you miss something, like for me, heard some slight knocking noise and the mechanic said "it's nothing, it's normal diesel noise." then it turned out to be a worn out rod bearing that ended up making a piston rod break and everything go kaput. It was a very nice 159 with 190k, ended up selling it as is for about 3800 pounds, now living happing with my 310k 147 that has the unbreakable 1.9 engine until I find something better.

So it was due a rebuild anyway. Worn con rod bearing (guessing small end) is an engine rebuild. 190k had your moneys worth, id say. Btw, I've also had the 1.9 diesel (in a gt) good engine, but like any other, not without it's faults.

@@paula200 yes, that's the trick, I live on morocco, for 11 years now I haven't found any shop really capable of rebuilding a jtdm engine so usually here when the engine needs a rebuild we just import one from Italy or get one from a donor, the first costs around 4k and the second around 2k and there is no garantee it'll work perfectly. The 1.9 has a lot of issues yes, but it doesn't die one you very easily. Especially the 150hp version, right now I got turbo hoses pierced and a slight fuel leak, but apart from a minor power loss and some black smoke, the engine is working well even in 45°C out.

Lovely car Neil. But for someone (maybe an enthusiast) I would prefer less flashy wheels. Surely when this model was launched the wheels were more conservative.

Nope. I had a Brera with those wheels. They were a standard option.

@@paula200 Thanks for the reply. Possibly not the standard wheels/tyres provided in Italy. One video from a Bergamo enthusiasts' garage has shown Brera autos with more civilised wheels and tyres (Alfa-appoved) which better suit this car's proportions.

To me both the 159 and the Brera need the 1750 tbi… the only engine I would buy for them. Still beautiful car tho.

After spending loads of time in both the tbi is over rated. Better torque from a 2.4 moved that lardy body quicker

@@ds1868 ok now I checked a bit better. You are right, sorry I needed to clarify that 😅 the 1750 is the only GAS Italian engine if I remember well, or at least, an Alfa Engine. While all the Diesels are Italian. Thanks a lot 👍 that makes me happy 😁 now I like this car even more

I like the 2.4 diesel on a Brera... its powerful, doesnt sound that bad for a diesel. BUT, i would NEVER consider a convertible with a diesel.

Do a rear box delete on these and over 20mph you’d never know it’s a diesel. The 2.2 is too underpowered and needs to be worked hard to get anything from it. The 3.2 drinks fuel and is even heavier and the 1750 tbi is as rare as anything but oddly still sounds like a diesel ! These are the best engine to go for in my opinion (owned 4 939 spiders)
