Not sure what version of the Bible this is taken from, but when David's forces fought Absolom's men, David did not declare judgment on Absolom and actually forbade his men to kill Absolom. Absolom was not captured .He got stuck in a tree as his massive head of hair got caught in the branches of an oak tree and he came off his mule and was left hanging in the air by his hair. Then Joab (commander of David's army), against David's command, speared the defenseless Absolom to death.

Joab killed Absalom when his hair was caught in a tree and he was suspended in the air. It's all relativ. I was called black in my childhood because I was the only dark haired child from all my siblings and relatives. Compared to no Europeans my hair is brown. All is relative.
