The empire created many different organizations to hunt down the Jedi amongst the best were the force sensitive Inquisitors and Imperial Shadow Guard. They were both fearsome in their own way but which organization was better?

Lets also not forget the massive brainwashing they recieved to make the fanaticly loyal to the emperor and only the emperor. So while Inquisitors might be willing to bargain if pushed into a corner or can maybe even turned against each other with the promise that only the successfull one of the group gets Palpatines favor, the Shadow Guard won't fall for such things. They will fullfill their order no matter what. And if the order would be to kill themselves, they would do so - without doubt or hesitation.

I would rather not want to fight an Imperial Shadow Guard. Just for the fact that they wielded deadly lightsaber pikes, had limited force abilities, they could cloak, and could call in shadow troopers. Plus, their outfit had a nice intimidation factor. Mix that with their penchant for silence, and you got yourself a deadly assassin/jedi hunter.

Justin Schauwecker True. Perhaps the Inquisitors should have been like the Jedi during the Clone Wars. They should have been the Generals and Commanders of the Imperial Army. Purge Troopers would have been their personal troops, like how Rex was always with Anakin, even though the 501st was rather large and always assisting other Jedi. They were more Force Sensitive than the Shadow Guard, and so they could have used training like how Vader was training them, but more efficiently this time, and learn from each other. Shadow Guards were better Jedi Hunters and do a better job on hunting them by themselves. So they were more fit for special operations, and with Shadow Troopers at their disposal, that makes them a smaller elite squad version of the Inquisitors with their Purge Troopers. If I was force sensitive in Palpatine’s Imperial Forces, I’d push for such an agenda to have the 2 groups and their foot soldiers be used for greatly different purposes.

There was another weakness the inquisitor had, the spinning lightsabers. The spinning made for a great intimidation factor against inexperience jedi but experienced jedi knew to aim for the hilt because of how exposed it was.

Personally I like the idea behind them, because they were weak in the force and not often well trained they needed some mechanical advantage for it, so they basically copied what grievous used to overwhelm jedi before without force powers. Just obviously couldn’t be given 4 arms.

I am just saying that the spinning would work against padawans and average Jedi because of the intimidation factor. Masters and skilled fighters like Ahsoka Tano and Darth Maul can overwhelm the inquisitors with skill alone, while Jedi who have experience fighting them like Kanen Jarrus and Cal Kestis eventually learned how to beat them.

I would say Shadow guard is the most dangerous. While more predictable in some ways, in many ways, predictable but incredibly effective combined arms warfare is far more lethal that a band of in fighting misfits. At the very least you can expect the shadow guard always perform their job well, and do it the best of their ability. The same can not be said of the Inquisitors. While having the same benefits of their position and occupation, and having the resources of the Empire behind them, the Shadow guard would make far better use of the resources allocated to the Inquisitors, and develop an efficient plan, that would not emphasize personal glory. An in that point is what I think is most important, between the two groups. The Inquisitors would destroy themselves purposely or unconsciously through their Battle planning and their scheming against one another, long before the Jedi who escapes Order 66 ever would. The Shadow Guard would not face such problems. Note: This is just my opinion, what do you guys think?

So they made apprentices rank up to knight hood at early age during the clone wars before they were older and wise about the fundamentals of the force and the art of war. That why many next generation jedi fallen to the dark side.

@@armycowboy4313 If I recall correctly, that was actually a thing (in Legends) that was stopped about a thousand years before the movies (aside from the blasters bit, I'm pretty sure Jedi have always been averse to blasters). The Jedi fought the various incarnations of the Sith empire as trained military leaders and soldiers off and on for thousands of years after the Great Hyperspace War, ending only after the defeat of the Brotherhood of Darkness (due to shenanigans on Darth Bane's part). With the Sith threat believed to be extinguished, the Jedi deliberately demilitarized to help transition the Republic to a more peacetime focus, abandoning military training, combat armor, etc. and taking up the role of basically glorified police officers.

I've never really been a fan of how they both basically have the same job: hunting and killing Jedi. If it were up to me, the Inquisitors would be the ones who hunt and kill Jedi. And the Shadow Guard would be a branch of Palpatine's personal bodyguards who specifically specialize in protecting the Emperor from Force-users. Not necessarily against Jedi, but potentially against Inquisitors, or Vader, if any of them wanted to usurp the throne. And unlike Inquisitors, actually would rely on more defensive rather than offensive tactics.

I love force lightning but judging by how many people can shrug it off it seems a little ineffective to me. Besides, i seem to remember hearing that some types of armor can block it as well. I think it would come down to who has the better armor and lightsaber techniques and the inquisitors seem a little lacking in both departments, and to be honest their fighting style seems flashy but impractical

You can find shadow guard in The Force Unleashed Campaign Guide and sun guards of thrysus in Galaxy At War Guide. Both of the books are Wizards Of The Coast D&D RPG books. I love both these groups, the sun guard give you something other than Mando's and they get turned into a sith cult. I just wish they were shown some love.

I was thinking initially that the Inquisitors would take this one, but after watching the analysis, I realized that the Shadow Guards are almost definitely superior. you forget the emperors hands who were by far the most effective they consisted of force sensitive children who were found and then trained by the emperor himself. the emperor used mind bending force techniques to make the fanatically loyal to him and which only wore of after years of not being reinforced. one of them almost killed Luke multiple times and that was several years after the emperor was killed.

I like the Shadow guards a lot more. Even though they're weaker in the force than most jedi, their uniforms and weapon are very cool. I think they fit the Sith's plans much better than the Inquisitors. While the Inquisitors are independent and powerful, the Shadow Guards are much more suited as enforcers and assassins. They're basically an order of weaker Vaders who can be sent to clean up things that the Sith aren't willing to bother with. They're also far more mysterious, and such are much more likely to survive after the Empire's fall in episode 6.

In legends there where several off branches of the Jedi order. ( Such as the order of the Iron Knight's. Made up of force using droids.) What happend to those orders? And how many/ best ones where there.

Actually, one very crucial detail you missed is that every Inquisitor is a specially trained pilot. Using their double-sided spinny sabers, Inquisitors are able to propel themselves at high speeds relative to their spin per midi-chlorian count- hovering at altitudes that rival even modern destroyer-class starships!

The inquisitors were intentionally given a watered down version of Sith training. They were kept relatively weak in the force so none of them could ever hope to rival Vader or the Emperor. They learned enough of the dark side and swordsmanship to take down Jedi, usually by working in pairs. The Inquisition ( sorry, this just sounds better than Inquistorius) just has a bit more meat to them. There’s more to work with there, narratively speaking.

@WillFanofMany Well yeah. So far to me, that's been a bit more believable in the canon since it's so far the inquisitor there has been a smaller group. Then again the new canon is still ongoing so we don't know what they might throw in or add later. I'm talking about the EU/Legend canon. Cause they always adding in all these large dark Jedi or skill Jedi hunters. Under Palpatine and Vader command. But make it so they always die off way before the O.T. starts. Before Luke and others could get to face them.

@@deadmanwalking971 Well, TBH Kanan got more in touch with the force and learned a lot when he took Ezra under his wing, he's basically the Canon version of Rahm Kota. And he also went to a jedi temple and got help from Ahsoka Tano. Ezra on the other hand is pretty much the canon version of Starkiller, he's simply pretty powerful with the force, and in some ways got ahead of Kanan in his force techniques during his apprenticeship.

Perhaps the Inquisitors should have been like the Jedi during the Clone Wars. They should have been the Generals and Commanders of the Imperial Army. Purge Troopers would have been their personal troops, like how Rex was always with Anakin, even though the 501st was rather large and always assisting other Jedi. They were more Force Sensitive than the Shadow Guard, and so they could have used training like how Vader was training them, but more efficiently this time, and learn from each other. Shadow Guards were better Jedi Hunters and do a better job on hunting them by themselves. So they were more fit for special operations, and with Shadow Troopers at their disposal, that makes them a smaller elite squad version of the Inquisitors with their Purge Troopers. If I was force sensitive in Palpatine’s Imperial Forces, I’d push for such an agenda to have the 2 groups and their foot soldiers be used for greatly different purposes. So the Inquisitors would be general purpose like the Jedi were during the Clone Wars, with Purge Troopers being their personal Clone Units around 20 or 30 strong like we saw in that Vader Comic. Meanwhile,Shadow Guard would be for hunting Jedi specifically, and would ave ShadowTroopers at their disposal as well, tho they wouldn’t always be together, more like have them on stand by unless the Shadow Guard needed help. (and taking care of the emperor in places were Jedi often were)

I would have the shadow guard be the Inquisitorial military unit so that way you don't have inquisitors bumping heads if each has a squad or two of shadow guards to back each one up. This would allow them to operate without pulling everyday imperial forces from their regular duties unless it is really needed; and let's them operate for longer if you give them a decent ship with maybe some Starfighter deployability to operate for longer periods. Like the only thing I took away from ea's battlefront 2 was that raider corvet I rally liked that ship.

Shadow Guard also tended to be assigned to aid Legends Inquisitors and popped up elsewhere in dealing with things such as when the Emperor wanted to prove a point and wanted to use something other than Vader to do it. I'd put the legends Inquisitors higher than the Shadow Guard (at least the full ones) and most of the Disney Inquisitors are under the Shadow Guard with the stronger ones at around or just above their level.

I think the shadow guards are more surperior then a standard inquisitor in a group fight. Since they put their mission first and won’t try to kill each other during battle. Individual fights it’s 50/50 based on the inquisitor skill.
