Very well done, and respectfilly done too. There was a lot about Adcox I didn't know until watching this.

This was very well put together, thank you for sharing - I was too young to remember watching Grant, but I'm sure he would have been one of my favorite drivers.

My dad worked at Herb Adcox's dealership in the early 90's. It's on Brainerd Road and directly behind it is the entire runway for the Chattanooga airport and its pretty cool to see the big Boeings take off and land behind it. Anyway, my Dad said Herb brought Grant's crumpled racecar back to Chattanooga and kept it behind the dealership. It became Newton Chevrolet after that until the mid to late 2000's and eventually became the Toyota dealership that it is today. Each time I go by there it's cool to think about that building being a small part of NASCAR history

@@codyC423 that's cool man I'm from the area myself... grew up in ft. Oglethorpe ga and I now work at Walter Jackson Chevrolet in Ringgold... My dad worked at Benny Jackson Ford in Ringgold most of my life and I've always been a nascar fan but never knew Herb Adcox was involved with nascar... as many folks that are watching KZbin videos it's cool to see a comment from someone that's from the same area as I am...

I was there that day.... my first cup race actually. Sat on what was then the back stretch just off two.... i saw it happen. It did look like a right front went down but from where i was you couldnt see that side of the car...it just went straight. It didnt look that bad honestly. I figured he would be ok until they started cutting the roof off. Great video BTW, and yes Grant was well respected in the garage and apparently a really fun loving guy.

I had quit racing by that time (1989) but I was a Grand National crew member back in the 70s and we raced against Grant. Unlike most drivers, Grant didn't let how he was running affect how he acted towards other people. Whether he was running good or bad, he was always nice to everybody. Most drivers are nice when they're running good and not so nice when they aren't. As a person, there was no driver more likeable than Grant.

Based on how other companies vehemently deny that it was their product, when there is evidence it is. I 100 percent believe a tire went down.

Also as a side note, Herb Adcox was the co-car owner (along with D. K. Ulrich, Buddy Baker & Bobby Jones) of the #22 Valvoline/NAPA/Plasti-Kote/OtterPops Pontiac in 1990 that Rick Mast mainly drove.

Thank you for posting this. When I was a kid and simulating my 100-plus seasons with my 1:64th scale stock cars diecasts (I raced them on about 150 different tracks off all sizes, from a Quikcrete bullring I built with chicken wire for catch fences to electrical tape superspeedways and 1/3rd mile tracks like Alabama Raceway (on the back of a square formica board, etc). I used whiteout, acrylic paints and nail polish and enamel paints and Sharpie markers of all colors to use duplicates of cars I had to create new teams and new cars (I had about 600 diecast cars of which I still have about 100 boxed up and about 30 autographed). Of course, with 100 seasons, I eventually had to create drivers of my own and even inserted female drivers. One of my families was the Adcox family--descendants of Grant. I knew of him from Arca in the late mid to late 80s. Thanks for this information.

Great video on a great gentleman. I have heard his seat came loose *before* the contact with the wall. And in fact it was the *cause* of the wreck and not the effect. Also heard that he had a heart attack that was why he hit the wall. Also heard that the heart attack was the result of the seat coming loose and slamming & collapsing his chest into the dashboard. It's a shame NASCAR didnt thoroughly investigate things like this and chose to sweep everything under the rug in secrecy instead. RIP Grant & Herb

@@ronaldshank7589 I seem to recall that the "heart attack" was as a result of his chest being slammed against the dash(?) due to the seat detaching.

I just hope no one told him and it was just another wreck at that point. It certainly didn't look as bad as it was unlike when Hamlin was spinning donuts while Newman was stuck in the car at Daytona a couple years ago. In that case everyone knew it was bad but he did it anyways
