Thank you for this video. She was a fascinating person and an excellent writer. The Netflix adaptation of “The Talented Mr.Ripley ” is mesmerizing. I particularly appreciated the respect the creators had for their audience.

She sounds an enigmatic character, but she wrote some amazing books.

Loved this. I've only just read my first Highsmith book and knew very little about her so this was fascinating to me.

I took interest in her from her Carol movie adaptation, my ex read her novel and then I learned about her from Talented Mr. Ripley, a lesbian writer and I wanna know more about her

It always fascinates me that some of the most tortured souls produce the greatest art. Sometimes it seems like a prerequisite!

I’ve always been fascinated by her and her books. I’m a bit of a Highsmith completest. I’ve read all the bios and even her 1000 page journal published a couple of years ago. She remains an enigma and endlessly interesting. The publisher Otto Penzler said that she was the worst author he ever had to deal with, by far.

Yes he hated her guts. 🤣

I'm too pragmatic to enjoy the tortured artist concept, but it does seem to produce good results! It's interesting how someone individuals seek to work through their demons, in writing, art, or even sports? Good to see the excellent Mavis Nicholson interview! ☺️

Yes, she was a great interviewer. Respectful, she let her speak and still managed to get answers P might not otherwise answer.
