Crazy to not have UFC 290 in the card of the year nominee, a bunch of fun prelim fights, Lawler perfect retirement, Bo Nickal getting a KO in less than a minute, amazing fight and one of the best comeback of the year in Hooker vs Turner, unbelievable upset from Dricus over Rob, fight of the year contender between Pantoja and Moreno and a masterclass from Volk to top it off. Hard to think of a better cards in the past few years.

How in the world do people say that Izzy put a stamp on the rivalry by FINALLY winning one time against a guy who has beat him nearly a handful of times!? It's insanity to me. Now, if Izzy goes up to 205 and wins AGAIN, then we can maybe talk about putting a stamp on anything. But still....🤷🏻‍♂️🤨

Because the story is of izzy being 2nd fiddle no matter what he does and Poatan being the nightmare he can't escape from, the shadow that gets cast on izzy. When Izzy beat Poatan the nightmare is over and he out the shadow that Poatan casted, Izzy had ascended to first place the end.

@@areebsiddiqui758 I think you guys base the KO of the Year mainly on the fighters involved credentials. That's not what that award is about, historically also. Joaquin Buckley won KO of the Year even though he and his opponent weren't top 10 rank fighters. KO'ing Volkanovski who was on short notice AND coming from surgery/injury isn't too wild of an outcome. KO'ing someone with 1 punch as if they got kicked in the head, them instantly collapsing and convulsing is another level of shock. Nothing to do with disrespect. KO award isn't about stakes, resume or how credentialed the fighters are. If anything is taken into account for KO of the year then it would be the KO'd fighters chin, if they historically don't have a great chin then that reduces the chance of getting the award.

Glad you touched on Johnny Walker here. He's had such a whirlwind of a time in the UFC. Before the Corey Anderson fight they were touting him as the next guy to beat Jon Jones. Then he went 1-4 from 2019-2022 and looked like he was on the verge of being cut. Now he's on a three fight streak (discounting the NC) and not very far from contention if he beats Ankalaev.

I think Nicolas Dalby should have gotten mentioned in either comeback of the year or upset of the year. Goes to Sao Paulo to be the co-main vs one of the biggest Brazilian up-and-comers in Gabriel Bonfim, and was viewed as a sacrificial lamb for the hypetrain. Bonfim was close to a -600 favourite. He gets boxed up and ragdolled in the first round, but rallies in the second, and finishes Bonfim with vicious combinations and knees up against the fence. Silenced the Brazil crowd

Strickland gets my vote as well, after you explained your thought processes. I, personally, would’ve voted for Alex until you reminded me the Izzy oiss was 2023….for some reason I remembered it being winter 2022 before new years…so my timeline was off to begin with, but, Strickland went from losing to 2 finishes and a solid decision win in a title fight. Just don’t let him know….his head is going to fill the 30’ octagon during his first defense.
