I enjoy your videos, but as a Buddhist I have to say you do made a mistake with something. Is not that Buddhism proclaims that it takes billions of lives to become a Buddha, in fact enlightment can be achieve in one single life time (I think the minimal time according to most traditions is 21 days). Of course it can take several eons but there's nothing preventing someone to achieve it faster. Here and on the nature of Buddha there are important differences between the Hinayana, Mahayana and Vajrayana traditions (as for example Mahayana believe that Buddha was already a Boddhisatva while Theravada don't, they believe he actually achieve Buddhahoor in one lifetime. I think Theravadas for example do not accept the Jakata tales a canonincal for this reason). Another different is that Tibetan Buddhism considers that there are always 6000 years between one Great Buddha (Tatagatha) and another which means that could not be billions of years between Gautama and Dipankara (however different schoold do handle different time periods between the two).

One crucial element to the Siddhartha Gautama origin story is that his parents received revelations that their son would become a great sage. So they purposefully kept Siddhartha sheltered and "in the dark" about the miseries of the world.

That adds credibility to the story. Normally even a privileged (in the traditional sense) person would be told or even observe the facts of aging and death within their own extended family. It would take a special effort to keep someone that ignorant.

Sambridha Thapa it’s part of a much larger prophecy that exists as well, between every Buddha spawn there is a world empire that ruled by Chakravarti’s. A Chakravarti cannot exist at the same time a Buddha exists, hence why the King did not want his son to become a sage as he wanted his son to forge a World Empire as Atlas did with Poseidon’s Atlantis prior to the Younger Dryas Impact (10,000BCE) and as Ikshvaku did with Manu’s Surya Vamsa after (8000BCE-2000BCE). Younger Dryas Impact being a cataclysmic comet impact detailed in Gobekli Tepe inscription which created Meltwater Pulses that rose sea levels by 400’, submerging continents such as Azores (Atlantis), and Sundaland (Lemuria) while shrinking the coastlines (East US/West India). If you look on Google earth, every light blue area in the ocean was land before this impact.

I grew up in Thailand, and the widely practiced version of Buddhism there is Theravada, which has been merged with Animism, meaning there is a strong belief in evil spirits that can harm humans, and many rituals to ward off or appease those spirits. Most houses around Chiang Mai where I grew up would have some kind of spirit house on a pillar or shrine where offerings would traditionally be made to spirits who may be around your home. It’s hard to say how much of the population of Thailand believes in the demonology side of this version, but over 90% of the country’s people identify as Theravada Buddhists, and beautiful temples ordained with depictions of the thinner, meditative Buddha can be found all over.

Very cool video. I live in Japan and have enjoyed observing Buddhism as practiced in Japan. It’s very different from the ideas talked about in this video, and is more than anything a system for remembering one’s ancestors, especially your parents and grandparents. The ancient tradition of Dharmik religions of India, which Buddhism is part of, has common roots including the language of Sanskrit and the knowledge of right vs wrong. One of the the ultimate stages of meditation is “Vipasyana” which is extremely difficult to achieve and it’s said that Siddharth Gautam attained it and could stay in Vipsayana stage forever. Probably earlier followers of Boddhi satva (earlier Buddhas) could attain it too. But Gautam Buddha’s attainment is more well know .

It's funny to me that so many disagreements of Buddhism happen simply due to linguistic variances. I would say that Samsara is similar to people working for an employer who will never recognize them. Awakening is the Epiphany that they don't need to keep feeding into this cycle. In my eyes, a midlife crisis can qualify as an awakening, and so everyone has the same potential. Even though it is the Kali Yuga, we have succeeded in helping humanity achieve a state of recognition that matters to them I'm so proud of humanity for getting to this point, it truly is a time for change

There is a reason for that. Alot of what people forget is That Prince Sidhartha(buddha) lived in what Biblical literature refers to as the Silent Years. No active prophets, Little to no Temples left from the old world that that actually functioned properly. Basically no spirituality or religious doctrines for him to build on when he himself became spiritually minded. Plese contact me about this on account of your empathy for his story shows that you understand the spiritual anguish and frustration he must have felt with little to no spirit in the world at the time. That is why the more I come to respect him as a person, the more I come to disrespect modern buddhism and vice versa. Considering the lack of example. Im suprised he gained the wisdom that he did. I think it worked for him mostly because his self-discovery was more driven from hatred for the wicked world and it's distractions thaan it was a love/seeking for something more out there. "The Buddha came at a time of great religious decadence and misuse in his own nation. And though he was born a prince, he had to give that up, you see. But he also had to give up the life of a pure ascetic because he realized that neither was really the correct pathway. He had to build a spiritual practice that was apart from all of the mythology and idolatry and hierarchical misuse of the religious practices that were so prevalent in his time, and in so many parts of the world at that time, with the emphasis on inner development, the emphasis on purifying and clarifying the mind, the emphasis upon reaching a higher ethical understanding about being in the world. What you must understand here is that he lived at a time when social change and progress were really not possible. It was a religion for building the inner life, not for impacting the outer life essentially, not directly. Because at that period of time, it was not possible to create real social progress. That would have to wait until later eras, and the Messengers of later eras would emphasize this because they were living at such a time when that was possible." A quote from The New Message from God teaching entitled *Buddha and the New Message from God*

"What is so important to understand here-because his teaching has different interpretations, different schools of thought-is that no matter how much you prepare spiritually, no matter how clear your mind can become, no matter how great your capacity for experiencing a greater reality, you must return to the world to serve. The end point of all spiritual practice is not bliss and ecstasy. It is service, contribution. For the Messengers this is always the case. But for you it is the case as well. For you were sent here to serve in a far lesser capacity, certainly. But the emphasis is still the same. It is not what you believe that is important. It is what you serve, what you study, what you reinforce within yourself and encourage in others. That is your religious practice, you see. And all religious practices, no matter how simple or extravagant they might seem, are all to prepare you, in essence, to be able to live like this."

@Darren oh vainglorious faithful, mayhap you have forgotten that Christian Theology, especially within your use of Born Again tenets, is no different from how these Hindu/Buddhist studies that you yourself stumping upon, due to the fact on how you solely focus on spreading thy words of an idol of worship, just like many of the belief systems nowadays have~~~ ahahaha, darling, forgiveness be thine word, and not downplays. how delightfully intriguing, may you have a bright day and a happy life, dear stranger.

Good stuff, you skipped most of the interactions with Mara (one of my favorite parts is when all of Maras armies shoot weapons at the Buddha and he raises his hands and they all turn to flowers and drop at his feet), but of course it’s a short video.

Those are mythologies representations of Buddha fighting his inner desires (Mara)
@seadawg933 жыл бұрын
@@ussinussinongawd516 of course,, that’s why Mara first attempts to have Buddha seduced by Mara’s beautiful daughters, then frightened and attacked by armies and then succumb to doubt by Maras questions; attachment, aversion, ignorance and self-clinging (and pride and jealousy) are all overcome by the Buddha.

@@ussinussinongawd516 Noo those arnt mythologies... Mara is a ceslestial being in one of the 31 realms of existence... Who is an actual person... Many ppl including Buddhists think it's a personification of desire that's not true.. mara is a celestial being in 6 th paranimitta vasavatti heaven...
@gauravtejpal89013 жыл бұрын
@@seadawg93 By the way, how similar are the stories of the Buddha overcoming Mara and Jesus overcoming Satan! Both traditions wanted to show the heroic nature of the protagonist...
@seadawg933 жыл бұрын
@@thisulwickramarachchi2380 I would say that Mara is both a celestial being as well as a metaphor. Of course, if we going to be technical, we are here talking about devaputra-Mara, but there are outer, inner and secret maras and Shakyamuni overcame them all. But it’s true, if imagine that the arrows of Maras hordes are JUST a metaphor, then we’re making a mistake.

Good video, but I want to make one minor clarification. "Buddha" is not only "The Awakened One", but most importantly he's self-awakened so its really used most often in the context that he is the first and did not learn the awakening from a teacher. Otherwise the term "Arhat" is used for those who are awakened by way of the teachings of another.

Interesting presentation. I would have liked to hear you discuss the difference in Theravada & Mahayana Buddhism- the later having more of the esoteric, mythological teachings. The Pali cannon, which the Theravada Buddhists follow just focuses on the teachings regarding the path out of suffering. 🙏🏼
