If I were the DM, I'd figure something out, like maybe people know of his crimes and stuff, or maybe clerics or priests or whatever got visions from their god of his crimes and are now out to punish him. He could've discussed the alternate personality with the DM in session 0, and set up rules for it, like rolling a d20 and if he rolls an 8 or lower he's Chaotic Evil for 1d6 hours.

Currently playing a rogue and for some reason can’t roll worth shit so I have done like 4 damage in a total of 3 battles one battle had 15 monsters. However I was the only one small enough to fit in the pit and save the baby dragonaes.

About that Eric the generic cleric, I read a very similar story about ten years ago (minus the car crashing bit...) DM was running a dungeon module and a few sessions in, the group Paladin begins displaying those same traits: solving complicated puzzles, rushing into specific room when there was magical loot to found and trailing back when an enemy was to be expected. Having his doubt, the DM switched one of the last magical weapon in the dungeon, an Holy Avenger for an intelligent sword instead. As expected, as soon as the party are nearing that treasure room, the Paladin beelines directly to the chest where he'd find the sword. As the DM begins describing the sword, the Paladin asks "Wait shouldn't it be an Holy Avenger?" revealing he had been cheating. "No, pretty sure it says here that it's an intelligent sword." This is where the actual revenge of the DM began, the intelligent sword started convincing the Paladin to feed him gems so it could gain more power and to get rid of all his other magical items, "because why would you need them, by wielding me, you'll be more powerful than ever." - which was a lie that the Paladin didn't catch on right away. Once he finally understood he'd been duped, he had to beg and pay his party to get his magical items back... all except his magical sword who was sentient and rather insulted to have been discarded for that gem eating sword.

I have 2 players that claimed to want RP & story. Theyve only ever paid attention during their turns of combat. So now 1 of my monsters will possibly oneshot either of them. They were told they might die from session zero. Theyre gonna be surprised, because if they were paying attention, theyd know better than to stay and fight.

Idea for a house rule: If a player doesn't respond when the DM tells them it's their turn, their character zones out and skips a turn. Basically, players get one "Hey, it's your turn" in a normal speaking volume when it's their turn. If they don't respond, skip to the next player.

So its unlikely theyll miss a turn. even if they did, they likely wouldnt care. i intend to exclude them in future campaigns/oneshots if talking to them doesnt yield the results i want. If i were running a prewritten, i might let some stuff slide. Running almost all homebrew though, i find them incredibly disrespectful these days. I do like your advice though. cheers.

That's a beautiful question at the end. I remember having that in my family's catin my teenage years. Been going through some bad times, feeling like I had no future, no place in this world. The only time though I truly came close to attempting suicide our cat came into my room. She jumped onto the couch and snuggled up right next to me, something she'd necer done till then (usually my mom was her favorite for that). It was like she knew what I needed and it calmed me down. Ever since then she was a regular in my room to nap and cuddle. I repaid her years later when her time came, spending about an hour laying on the kitchen floor as she'd gotten too weak to get up. I tried my best to keep her calm and comfortable until finally, she passed away in my arms. Now, about 20 years later my life is goibg well, I have a wonderful girlfriend and am more grateful than ever our cat took care of me all that time ago. I am still in therapy for depression, I am still struggling from time to time, but thanks to her, I can still do that.

Okay, I can't help but love the "Bombs away" story. Not just because it was entertaining in and of itself, but also because I once played as a character who died when I threw a handful of Beads of Force at my own feet in order to kill several ogres who were surrounding me. For whatever reason, I didn't think for a second that they would damage me. In my defense, I did kill all the ogres at once, which turned what was supposed to be an impossible encounter our low-level party was meant to flee from into a decisive victory. What remained of the party were heralded as heroes for saving the village from the ogres, and a statue was erected in my character's honor. But that is also the DUMBEST way I've ever had a character die.

TLDR; problem player creates a strange backstory with little definition. This leads to her death. My first dnd campaign was for a group of kids my age (early teens). 3 of 5 players knew how to play the game and the other 2 were new to it. Surprisingly, this story isn’t about one of the new players, it’s about an old player. The story starts with character creation. While I am talking with player A (future problem player) she tells me she is going to make a bard whose main goal is to be able to persuade and charm people in the group. To add to this already bad idea, was her backstory: “I was once a leaf. Then, I was a half-elf”. She refused to expand, she refused to explain how this happened. During roleplay, it also came to light that she was playing the epitome of a chaotic stupid character; “can my costume be of a mermaid”, “can I climb the Goliath barkeep” and “can I have sex with [player A]’s dad” were some of her best known lines. I was new, I didn’t know the signs. How did she die? I got tired of her character, so, I created my own reason for her “leaf-ness”. A god gave a leaf life. He would revert her back to a leaf if she ever disappointed him. Low and behold, when the character humped the fifth clay golem of the day, she returned to her leaf state. She left the world the same way she entered it; being swayed by the wind. I still believe she’s out there, sitting on windowsills of taverns, forcing NPCs to kiss and ordering melted butter for breakfast

My cat Captain Kirk has 100% helped kept my boyfriend and I sane over the last couple months. He is the sweetest, most mellow cat you can imagine. He loves to be picked up and held (really), loves to jump in my lap and try to cuddle with my hand when I sit down at my computer every morning, and loves to do what we call "attacks of opportunity" (he "hides" behind an object, waits until we walk by, and very lightly "attacks" one leg). Changling pact of the chain Genielock with Voice of the chain master. I ruled that being in an extra dimensional space was on the same plane as the item you were in because i couldnt find a rule on it. So he sat in his bottle all day, and just had his familiar carry it around all day. All his spells were touch spells so he pretty much just played a familiar while his real body was always safely out of harms way pretty much permanently. If for some reason he did get forced out. boots of speed make for a really quick getaway. And the familiar would just come back and he'd go back in. Really creative character. Annoying as crap from a mechanical standpoint. He finally died when a bandit filled the bottle with water and put a cork in it.

Okay. Basically "Any character played by my friend Jake". Let's see...The big one? He used a VERY short-lived loophole in 4E, to allow him to essentially do quadruple damage. (By playing a Bugbear Ranger) ...I had his character 'suspiciously' attacked by a bad guy and dealt "All the damage". I gave the big bad purposeful INSANELY high damage. (Essentially, that bad guy was doing quadruple damage) Then he asked to play his character's twin brother. I promptly grabbed his character sheet and ate it. In front of him. It was DELICIOUS.

I used to have a cat, named whiskers, he genuinely looked like the cat from the whiskers adverts. He died near the 30th of June this year my birthday, so to make me feel better my friend recommended me to put him in the dnd campaign that me and a few others are doing at school. So now I, a goliath barbarian has a massive beast of a cat to just comfort me from time to time.

I stopped DMing for Newbies when players started trying to take the reins and not only dictate which NPCs were where, but flat out adding new ones. If they'd like to do all the work themselves, they can have at it.

For the early part of my childhood I had a golden retriever called Cassie. I can't remember a time before Cassie she was gentle and cared about me and my little brother very much there's only one time that she snapped at one of us. Now I don't personally remember this story and the people who told it to me don't remember which one of us it was seeing as me and my younger brother we're both very little at the time but apparently one of us jumped on her head from the couch and that was the only time that she snapped and it was more of a "hey don't do that". Otherwise if we say had a nightmarebefore the parents could come downstairs to comfort us Cassie would be there doing her best to make us feel safer. Unfortunately this Wonder of a dog is no longer with us as she died when I was 8 years old. Other than that one incident though she had a very good life

In my Star Wars TTRPG, we have two power gamers. One of them has built a character to be able to casually stroll up to darth vader,barrel stuff him, and then walk away from the crater. He’s trying to convince the GM to let him build this monstrosity of a Starfighter that would let him do the same to Star destroyers, showing a plan of the exact rolls needed to make this thing. Thankfully the GM has told him “hell no” The other power gamer is a non combat character, specializing in healing, lore checks, and crafting, and is a pleasure to RP with.

@@kylethomas9130 Jerry was a severe arachnophobe. To the point talking about any kind of 8-legged critter creeped him out. He didn't much like any insect but severely hated spiders and scorpions. I was originally just mad at him for forcing us to only play as humans, having told us he had some great plan about the races hating each other, but later turned out he just was doing it to force another player to keep from min/maxing and 'easier calculating' for him or some bs, so I just planned to play like my first wild shape as a spider. Then, he decided that he'd try to make all of our characters incredibly racists, despite none of our characters' backstories having a reason to be, so that we'd be railroaded into encounters because we'd just attack any race that wasn't human. And he was repeatedly attempting to kill me for being a spider moreso than the other players (thankfully my bestie was playing a cleric this time and wasn't allowing that to go down). At that point I was so ticked off with him I went full throttle with the character's arachnid obsession and made EVERY wild form I got some form of arachnid. He even tried to bar me from being a giant wolf spider saying 'my charater hadn't seen one' (he didn't win that argument). How Bitsy survived that whole campaign was sheer luck and the rest of the party getting tired of Jerry's crap aswell (he wasn't allowed to DM for the next few rotations, don't think he ever did again before I left the group after graduating.)

Black Dragonborn paladin serving a death goddess. (Home Brew LN deity by me, the DM). He took it to mean kill randomly and remorselessly. Even got another player in on some of it. To keep it brief, the character ended up failing the entrance exam into an adventuring guild (after vandalizing a noble’s manor while hired to guard it). They went to sulk and were approached by and recruited into effectively the Mafia as a some extra muscle. Oh and they went OathBreaker as the goddess of death was a deity of change and eventuality, which includes death and birth, but not rampant murder. The group fell apart some time later, before I could bring back the PC as a boss fight.

One of my cats and one of my dogs will swat at me, or nip my finger tips if my ADD has me pacing my house for more than an hour or so. They didn't always do this but at about the same time they started getting frustrated with it and make a point to very gently redirect me. It's actually been helpful in getting me to realize when/where/why I begin to disassociate.

So I didn't have a bad player so much as a new player in a not so optimal setting. I was trying to introduce some friends to DND by way of a dumbed down homebrew horror campaign similar to the Cabin in the Woods movie. I had 5 players who took different amounts of time to make their characters and we played over Discord. One of them just had a hard time paying attention to what was being described and would step away from the game unannounced here or there. After a while it got hard to match up schedules and 3 players dropped out at the same time: the Jock who was the one who didn't pay attention, the Goth who was always sort of just along for the ride and never roleplayed, and the Nerd who kept getting Nat 20 rolls. I had a week to set up what happened to them before the campaign ended, and here's how it went down. The Jock, who we all jokingly said would just zone out and walk to the nearest corner to jack off, died of an undiagnosed brain fungus. The Nerd, who off screen with me rolled another Nat 20, suddenly was entombed in a pillar of light, gave his omniscient advice, and fucked off to ascend into Godhood while maintaining his atheism. The Goth watched the most helpful person disappear and said "Fuck this!" and shot himself in the head. All of this was told to the players who left and they were all cool with how things worked out

I recently finished this campaign, but at the beginning of it, two of my players adamantly refused to go to the dungeon, where the rest of the party was already exploring. One of the players begged and pleaded to own a business prior to the game, so I reluctantly allowed him to. The two players decided to send a message back to their business for "reinforcements and supplies", so I told them that it would take about two ingame weeks to reach their headquarters, and two weeks for the supplies to come back, in order to hopefully discourage them from just getting lots of gear (they were still lvl 1) and beating the dungeon immediately. Instead, they sat around and waited, every ten or so minutes asking me "has it been four weeks yet?" No, it hasn't been four weeks, at most it's been a few hours. They refused to go into the dungeon with the rest of the party to pass the time, swearing that "they aren't ready without their supplies". Eventually, I managed to entice one of them into going into the dungeon by having one of the villagers mention some magical weapon in there that one of the players wanted (basically the arrow of Yondu from GotG), but the other just decided to continue to wait outside. After about two sessions, the player finally gave up waiting, and joined the rest of the party. Now this guy decided to make his character absolutely useless, dumping everything into Cha and Int and using some kind of homebrew class that was basically a bard without any spells, and overall weaker, only able to do anything when talking to NPCs. Fucker immediately died to the first goblin.

Was a player for a 7th Sea campaign. I'm playing Captain Edmund, a dishonored Avalonian navy leuitenant, now working as a Sea Dog looking for redemption. This other player, we'll call him Jack, decides he wants to make Captain Jack Sparrow. I warn him that, due to Edmund's backstory and upbringing, he detests pirates. Jack rolls up the character anyway. First adventure out we find an Avalonian merchant ship, listing on the reef. When we approach, he suggests we rob it. Apparently when I told him about Edmund's hatred of pirates and he insisted on playing one anyway, he thought I would change my character to be a pirate too, even when I made it clear I wasn't. Long story short, Jack gets beat up by Edmund and his first mate Xavier, both superiorly specced for combat compared to the wacky Jack Sparrow, and he gets clapped in irons, then executed by an Avalon judge for the crime of piracy

Before I joined the group that I play in, there was a guy that fudged his rolls. Situation was that, there was a bunch of zombies/undead roaming the city, and the group had to jump from rooftop to rooftop. Annoyingly, the dwarf in the party couldn't jump that far, so they had to throw him. This cheater had a tendency to "Fail" the skill check to catch him, and at least one of the other players caught on to it - the cheater eventually left the group for one reason or another, and to this day, that dwarf is afraid of heights. Of course, that dwarf has negative modifiers in Wisdom, Intelligence, and Charisma (and Dexterity, but that's not his fault), their beard was burned off due to eating black dragon meat, and their lower jaw is almost all bone, and they have a messed up arm, and tends to have a lot of bad rolls - but every now and then, the dice gods take pity on him, he rools good enough to pass, sometimes spectacularly, like being one of three players to roll a *Nat20!* when a check using three separate skills gets called out, that time he chopped down a tree and didn't get infected with this one disease (making a bridge for others to cross this polluted stream), and is one of two people who hasn't gotten sick once yet (Others still are, got Cured, or, in one case, made a deal with the God of Death!)

the "alternate personality" excuse is banned at my table. I don't fucking care if it's a real mental illness, that shouldn't be a free pass to switch alignment as you please. If you can incorporate the alternate personality to just role playing or have a very good reason why your character should switch personalities, then it's good. I'm only bitter about this because we had a player who had to pull that excuse in game, and irl. She would be overall aloof and would be bitchy if we called her out for it. She would act snarky, rude, and generally a huge dick. She would also metagame and use it as an excuse. Multiple personality can be done well, but for the love of god, don't use it to satisfy your sadistic urges and break character. If you wanna play a sadist, play a fucking sadist or a psychopath. God.

This is a response to the end-of-video prompt. I'm, admittedly, a bit worried that I'll be judged and/or ridiculed for this. I have a plush stufful that I sleep with and take with me everywhere. Specifically, whenever I need to drive to work, school, the store, or someplace else, I usually take it along with me to "guard the car" for me as I do my business. I know it's weird for an adult to be so attached to a toy the same way that I am with stufful, so I would only ever carry him around when I'm with family and, occasionally, close friends. In a way, it's kinda like a pet to me, as weird as that may sound. This was, hard to write. I don't usually share this kind of info, let alone as an impromptu response to a video. Alright let me one up you. I'm thirty years old and I still have the first teddy bear I was ever given. He was passed down through my mother's friend's family to every first born male. I sleep with that teddy bear, it's blue and named Charlie. My girlfriend also gave me a teddy bear earlier this year or last year named Henry - which I also sleep with and frequently cuddle when I'm sleeping. It's never a bad thing to have something that is sentimental to you. It's never weird for an adult to like things like that. My cat Gaby. I've had had experiences with animals in the way that every pet that was specifically my in the past has died and she is the only let I've had that has lasted so long and she loves me.
