Lena Headey is also covered in tattoos which would have been impossible to cover up and would be wildly inappropriate for Cersei. If you watch the show, Cersei is always fully covered, including long sleeved dresses and gowns. This was also to hide her tattoos. So with any scenes where they would be unable to hide her ink, it was much easier to use a body double.

ILena Headey has used her tattoos to avoid having to do topless or nude scenes in a lot of her roles just because they can't be hidden.

Both times she had agreed to be in a nude scene she then asked to be excused because she had gotten pregnant. Both times they ended up using a body double.

I don’t get why they didn’t make Cersei completely bald when she did the walk. Not that Lena would’ve had to shave her head, but surely they could’ve done makeup or something. Then they could’ve shown Cersei’s trauma from the experience. As at the end of the last book Cersei is covered from head to toe in clothing, wearing a sort of head dress that covers her head, sort of like a hijab. it shows how the walk humiliated her, and she’s not wanting anyone to see any part of her body anymore. Cersei for the final season’s could’ve worn elaborate head wraps, and silks etc to cover her skin. It would’ve shown how the walk affected her. But no, we get a pixie.

Interestingly, I think it wouldn’t have worked as well if Headey’s real body were used. Cersei is supposed to (in the books) be losing her figure due to drinking too much. She’s also had three children, so some extra weight might be expected. However, in real life Lena Headey is very thin and very fit, so it probably wouldn’t work.

⁠Within the context of the show, it was a means of humiliation and punishment for the women, particularly high-born women. To be stripped of the “armor” of their rich clothes and be reduced to simple flesh where their name and power aren’t visible in the face of their vulnerability. Because most women’s power didn’t stem from physical power, so a show of their authority was the elevation of their status and these trappings which “removed” them from the common masses. I actually think it was a brilliant move in terms of symbolism and cruel punishment. Of course, George RR Martin could have just been into naked chicks too. 😂 As for the actress, I could see how someone who really loves exploring all the aspects of their craft could view this as a wonderful experience due to the being in the headspace of the character and channeling that deeply emotional moment, surrounded by a raging crowd. I’d find it frightening, but I don’t think it weird that some would relish the moment to walk in the footsteps of such a crucial scene for a character and even get a glimpse of the helplessness in the face of such animosity and vilification…all in a safe space. Emotional bungee jumping, so to speak.

I think there’s something kind of awful about the concept of big actors having nude body doubles. I understand nudity can be humiliating but it feels kind of predatory of the industry to see that an actor doesn’t want to do a nude scene and instead of thinking “oh, we should change the scene, or use creative camera work” it’s “oh, let’s get a less successful actress in for a body double”

Maisie Williams' stunt double was used in that brief nude scene with Arya in the final season. They shot it so you can't see her face, which is always a good indicator of the actor not doing it. Tbh who can blame her?? The Arya stunt double looks so much like her, it wasn't difficult to fool people.
