I am looking forward to this, I am from Ireland and I have family members who were part of the Republican movement that formed the early Fianna Fail party. One of the members of the party Robert Briscoe took Jabotinski to Ireland to provide training in Guerrilla warfare. Unfortunately the government of Ireland during the war were fixated on neutrality and refused Briscoe's requests for extra visas for Jewish people fleeing from mainland Europe.

I met here many years ago a Holocaust survivor from Poland who told me that he remembers hearing Zeev Jabltinsky public speech pre World War 2 and hw he urged the Jewish communities to immigrate to The Land of Israel ( the called British Palestine)

Jabotinsky was classic liberal, who strongly believed in individual liberties, including those of Arabs in a “ future Jewish state” ; too bad that people don’t mention it in their lectures and portray him as a military nationalist.

@@HenryAbramsonPhDI think what this person is trying to say in a very convoluted way is that Jabotinsky’s legacy is the rise of Likud and Israel’s post Yom Kippur War rightward shift, the divisive Kahanist politics inspired by Rabbi Kahane, and the state of Israeli politics today. I’m also reminded of another lecture I just watched on Jabotinsky where I think either the presenter or an audience member said a case could be made that Bibi being Israel’s longest serving PM is proof of Jabotinsky’s continued towering legacy and I think that’s what this person might be trying to say. Not saying that I agree but I’m trying to decipher their words. I’m not sure if there is a meaningful link between that part of fascism they’re highlighting and Jabotinsky’s ideas. This seems like a very superficially linear and simplified way of looking at the evolution of politics from Mandate Palestine to Israel. As for the existence of that in Israeli politics, again I think this is a very simplified way of looking at it. Way too many layers to unpack and go through and I hate pejorative buzzwords.

Thank You Just one small correction at 48:48 you mention that the demonstration of Betar on Tisha Bav took place on the Temple Mount I think this is inaccurate as it was staged at the Western Wall instead Here's the Wikipedia entry for this: 15 August (Tisha B'Av) - The Revisionist Zionist youth leader Jeremiah Halpern and three hundred Revisionist youths from the Battalion for the Defence of the Language and Betar march to the Western Wall proclaiming "The Wall is ours". The protesters raise the Zionist flag and sing the Hatikvah. (Source: Krämer, 2008. p. 230;Segev, 2000, p. 310;Mattar, 1988, p. 46.)

Mendy Ross - yes. In fact I recall reading that jabotinsky was a guest in the home of r. kahanes parents. But, that doesn't mean jabotinsky can be blamed for kahanism.

When I was growing up in Sydney NSW Australia, I was a member of B'nai Akiva, my little sister went to habonim because it was more social and we knew other kids who went to betar. I didn't know the history of jabotinsky only that there were streets and places name after him, and that there was some controversy

Jabotinsky is often portrayed as a one dimensional figure by his supporters and detractors. However, he was a multidimensional visionary who sacrificed a brilliant literary career for the Jewish people. His pleas to the Jews of Poland to flee from the holocaust to come fell on deaf ears. His desire to raise an international Jewish army to invade Palestine never materialized, but his efforts to raise up the individual Jewish sense of pride did come to fruition.

My family comes from this exact region Odessa, maternal grandfather from Romania/ Moldova. These pogroms actually did happen, very harshly, brutally, and we were lucky to have everything destroyed (all our homes/ stores/ properties) but to escape with our lives! I don’t know about Odessa during the early 1900’s but I do know of Odessa mid century - and it was very antisemitic! Jews were not allowed to attend schools/ universities- unless you had the money to pay off the director, etc. many Ukrainians also collaborated w/ the Nazis. I know bcus my parents, grandparents lived it 1st hand and I heard such stories before I was even old enough to understand. In case anyone wants to deny.. it’s ok… as long as WE KNOW THE TRUTH! And Ze’ev Jabotinksky was a blessing from G-d to our people. I consider his own of our pioneers and founding fathers of modern Zionism and Israel… and our people-hood today. Also I think Vladimir somehow translates into Ze’ev. My father was born Vladimir or Volodimir as well… but his Hebrew name was Ze’ev. Which is. Very Interesting.

I like your analysis of political spectra, and especially how in America there is very little real difference between Republicans and Democrats. The only thing I’d add is that in America you can also use a quadrant where the x-axis is economic left/right as you had it, and where the y-axis is social left/right. Republicans tend to be more economically libertarian than Democrats (supporting the free market over regulation); but Democrats tend to be more liberal about social issues. This is, of course, oversimplified; each individual has their own proclivities that don’t always neatly fit into a quadrant.

Thx for the lecture :) sorry for a five year delay. His birth name was Wolf, hence he didn’t take the name Ze’ev, he just translated it to Hebrew. The russified name Vladimir (as well as Evgeny name of his father) was used unofficially because of the high level of the anti Semitic vibes in russia which exist the even today. And as mentioned before, russia and Ukraine are not synonymous, glad the west finally knew it, unglad by the costs it took.

Yiddish is German peppered with various Hebrew, Aramaic, and Polish words. A German Jew would speak with a German accent, but an Odessan like Jabotinsky would have a markedly different accent.

@@HenryAbramsonPhD Sorry if I was too harsh. It was a very interesting lecture. Really. It gave a much better picture of him even if i miss the connection to the powers behind him. How could he arm and train hundreds of men in the early 20's? Who gave him money? What is the connection between Jabotinsky and 7/10? Jabotinsky was the one that introduced terrorism in the region against civilians. There were almost no antisemitism in Palestine before 1918. There were almost no antisemitism in middle east before 1948. It was a phenomenon in Europe and Russia. Jews, christians and muslims lived in peace together in Iraq, etc. The problems started when one group did unrealistic claims backed by USA and Great Britain, i.e. colonial powers. But do you really think that the most trained and equipped army in the world, could have missed what was going to happen? Egypt told Mossad. And why did it take 5-7 hours to respond? And why did Hamas stay that long? Hamas was created with help from Israel and is corrupted in the same way as Fatah. If you rule the money flow in the world, you can buy anyone. And the result will be that West Bank will be cleansed, which escalated 8/10. People in Gaza will be killed in mass until Egypt open their borders. Then the one state solution of a Jewish state can be finalized as the Biltmore conference stated 1942. Because something else has never been in the plan. BP can then take the oil under Gaza and you and I can go to bed and sleep well again until the war against Iran will start.

Unless it's your intent to signal your disapproval of Jabotinsky, you'd be better off using a more neutral term. Or you could simply leave out the word "ideologue".
