I experienced an earthquake back in elementary school. Everyone was pretty panicky including the teachers, so there was no "evacuate in an orderly fashion" and kids just ran. As I was running along down the school's dark hallway to the stairs a random girl beside me reached out her hand and I took it. We didn't say a word to eachother but went on holding hands as we ran. We made it out safely, went our separate ways and I never saw her again after that. But that small moment just stayed with me through all these years, an example of how strangers can instantly gravitate towards one another in times of distress. Oh the warmth of holding on to another person's hand when the future is unknown.

I work as a firefighter in Texas on the gulf. My community was hit hard during hurricane Harvey and unfortunately there were so many people we just couldn't help them all. As a fire dept we aren't really equipped for floods like that but who else do people really call when their houses are slowly filling with water? I remember feeling helpless trapped at my station just listening to it rain. Knowing my house, my family's houses, and my entire community is just slowly being submerged. Knowing these people need help and there just wouldnt be enough of us. The next morning we had people show up to the station from literally all over the country who come to help. People who had no family or friends here. They took vacation time from their jobs. Hauled their own boats and came to help us until it was over. These ppl weren't paid and barely even thanked but I think about them all the time and how they changed my view of ppl in times of disaster.

The part about not getting paid ,but just coming together and working harmoniously without a guide map to get a job done that helps others brings tears of joy and hope to my eyes. To me it proves that the world can demolish borders and get along without war, greed, fear and hostility. We just must always be on watch,ready and prepared to dismantle evil plans of wolves in Shepherd's clothing that knowingly will and currently are controlling the show on this planet. I think ways of identifying opportunist imposters is by watching their actions and verifying factual past actions regarding the well being of others besides themselves and take notice to how they speak of other people,do they take responsibility for their mistakes?See what they see, hear what they hear, but choose to choose whether or not you will do or follow what they do because we can all choose to go with the motions, but will going with the motions cause us to unknowingly get ourselves lost thus ending up creating our own future drama or take a moment of time and put ourselves in another man's shoes to understand that man's why before we collectively do anything. Most people just want love, safety, security, acceptance ,truth and most of all to be able to trust others. It appears when people have peace of mind that their surrounding are peaceful as well.

My whole town of 88,000 people in Northern Alberta, Canada, were evacuated from a wildfire in 2016 (The Fort McMurray Wildfire). There is only one road in and out of the town, and the nearest large city is a 5 hour drive away. This proved to me that people really do come together in hard times to help people in bad situations. People without cars jumped in with strangers to get to safety, people volunteered to cook for masses, volunteered to help organize sleeping arrangements and such. Miraculously, not a single person died in the fire, even though it decimated neighbourhoods. I am always stunned by the memories of the regular folks that joined together that day to get everyone out safely.

We have been evacuated several times over the years here in California, due to fires as well and the lessons I learned were the same. Why do we wait for disasters to come to work together as we should? That is the question I put forth. Often many will not realize the potential in humanity until they are directly effected or involved in a disaster.
@TroydaBoy61603 жыл бұрын
That's awesome! But it does not always happen like that sadly. Hurricane katrina is a great example. People were floating on signs escaping through the designated evacuation routes and people were waiting for them and shooting at them. That's one small example from that situation. The police litterely went door to door taking people's guns, still to this day no one has gotten there guns back. At a severe time of distress, gangs took to the streets and attacked women and children, people shooting people for supplies. And to top it all off, the gov decided to come in and bully there way to taking everyone's means to protect themselves.

I remember when I was 20 years old, I was cliff diving with some friends in Croatia. After a while my friends went back to our towels on the beach but I still went for one last dive. As I got up the usual rock we jumped from I suddenly saw a little girl in the sea. The rocks we were jumping from we pretty far away from shore so it was really weird seeing a little girl there, she couldn't have been older than 5 or 6. As I spotted her I saw her struggling and going under. I jumped in, got her on my back, swam back to shore and there her panicked mother came running up and grabbed her by her hand. Never saw that girl again after that. Some time later I reflected back on that moment and what I discovered was that there wasn't a single thought process in that moment. As I saw her my body was taken over by the sole purpose of saving her. Call it instinct or pure purpose, I can't really take any credit for saving her since it came so naturally and automatically. That insight made me consider that humans have a good heart, not simply me, I truly believe every human would go into that saving nature. And I like that thought.

I'll have to disagree with part of that statement from the dear Doctor. Virtue and goodness are not true in the darkest hour. Virtue is virtue in good days and in bad days. A good deed done on a warm sunny day is as good as a good deed done in the midst of a storm so long as the good deed is done for the sake of goodness itself. A virtuous act is not virtuous because it comes at some cost to you. To tell the truth over offering a white lie is as virtuous as speaking the truth when it may cost you your life. The weight of each action is different, but the virtue is still the same. People often think that the only time it matters to be good and virtuous is in times of crisis. That, they can forgo their virtue in the monotony of daily routine. But if one cannot tell the truth over a stolen penny, how can they expect to tell the truth when their life is on the line? It is this strange falsehood that being good only matters when the stakes are high that allow some people to think minor infractions are okay. Most people do practice virtuous behavior in their daily lives. But we all know a Karen or two who have no regard for anyone but themselves. They convince themselves that their behavior is alright because the stakes are not high enough to "matter". It's lines like this that lend to that mentality. It suggests that the only actions that matter are the "big ones". Don't get me wrong, those big moments are important. They are the ultimate test of one's virtue and strength of character. They your very soul in the heart of the fire and pound it into its true shape. It reveals for all to see what you truly look like on the inside. I've never concerned myself with humanity prevailing in times of catastrophe. Most everyone I've observed in those circumstances rally to the reduction of suffering. It's when times are pleasantly peaceful for the majority, there is often a lack of consciousness for the individual in crisis. Too many times I've watched others, including myself, slip through the cracks with nowhere to turn for relief. It is easier to get the ambulance to the aid of the person who has fallen from the precipice, than to be at the precipice with enduring friendship that gives them no cause to step off.
@jeffthevomitguy11782 жыл бұрын
I attempt to translate this into simple English. .Most people during catastrophes overlook their own suffering and are more willng to help during times of catastrophes. .During times of peace and prosperity, people ignore others who are suffering alone. .it's easier to show compassion after tragic events than to be the force (friendship) that prevents people from committing or experiencing these events. ::'z

I could lay claim to victimhood, hold a grudge and become emotional, but what's keeping me positive is keeping my focus on my renal team and making things easier for them (hence why I stay fit despite kidney failure). It also helps to realize that you're a representation of the people you associate with, and if you want to represent them in the best possible light then you have to do the same for yourself; clean yourself up, keep yourself fit, stand up straight and speak articulately. From this, you will free yourself as you'll no longer see yourself as the centre of the universe with the resulting anxiety that comes from wondering why the world isn't revolving around you.

Nothing like a war that can literally make a complete stranger a brother in arms. When the pressure is on we tend to try and find each other in the chaos so that we can work together to create a safety blanket. We are social creatures and we have always lived in groups. Helping others gives a feeling of being needed. Right now a lot of us need a purpose.

Who would have thought in times of crisis we care for each other, and the reason we tear each other is because a man in a mansion told the media we are our on worst enemy.
@nihilism62263 жыл бұрын
Melancholy Man Tears and emotional breakdowns aside, helping others genuinely works only until you need something that actually matters. For example if you are in need of directions, a random stranger will probably help you, but if you need a girlfriend, all women except for the most ugly ones will tell you "you are not good enough" even though you are. This is the hypocrisy of mankind. We are all ultimately selfish dicks who pretend to be nice to feed our egos.

Not by becoming your girlfriend out of pity, but by giving you sound advice, maybe trying to find someone for you.

When he told the world that I'm ignorant because I claimed my religion and I believe in my second amendment rights.... You're placing blame where it doesn't deserve to be. You should be looking at yourself because you just created more division... And I don't think he'd love to hand to help me in times of suffering because I voted for orange man is bad because the media told me he is. That being said I work with people I disagree with everyday and I still work my ass off to help them because unprofessional and I'm a decent human being.

DXM, if your nature is fragile as to be haunted by learning truth, then you need to smash that nature to pieces and restart, rebuild. our natures are fragile because of the amount of lies that have been used to construct it. it's ramshackle. it's unsafe. it will collapse and fail, nay, trap you when you need it's support/shelter/structure the most. most of us still have time to do that, tho such is short. most of us still have food, water, shelter, internet... in terms of rebuilding and such, search out "elliott hulse, strength camp". he is a bodybuilder who goes heavily into philosophy and strengthening your soul, as well as the physical meat suit it's currently packaged in. -disclosure note: i personally am heavily biased towards God/Christ of bible fame. whether you are or not, be ruthless in throwing away lies. keep only truth. act upon it. you will ultimately find yourself strong enough to survive death itself.

Once I went on an army cadet activity (as a cadet) and we were going out to set up a temporary field base as part of the activity, and as night fell a huge rainstorm came through. all I remember was running through the heavy rain, helping people to Unimogs that had come to evacuate cadets, and retrieving abandoned packs. I was one of the last to leave. Not as intense as other examples but I thought I should put this here.

However, the message of this video caught me by surprise and halfway through it, I started getting quiet emotional. This message is very important in these difficult days we are living in and should be shared to the whole of humanity.

They really should show this to the kids in school, but they certainly will not. The saddest thing about school is that they only teach the children what fits into whatever Agendas they are promoting and preparing them for. Of course, they will say it's our fault for sending them there in the first place when we realize this fact. The last thing any school wants to do is give the children ideas and suggestions to follow that would give them any hope for humanity or the universe. The elementary schools have become prison environments, complete with locking the students in and having full time police officers in uniform standing around with their masks on and their police cars parked right in the front of the school buildings. These kids are being taught to fear and stay away from one another and to obey ridiculous demands, all in the name of being "safe" which is a huge lie that everyone should have figured out by now. It's one of the saddest things I've ever had to deal with. I show my 11 y/o that which I want her to learn about, things that are or will be helpful to her in life, at home and have learned not to expect that the school will ever do so.

empathy and kindness has always been the driving point of humanity. we've had competition with other sapiens, droughts, poor harvests, etc., yet here we are, watching this video, with time spent pondering our nature instead of just trying to not get eaten. if the old humans were greedy, they would've killed off their fellow humans in order to hoard food; eliminating empathy and kindness by natural selection. but here we are, living vicariously through people who don't exist, feeling _their_ highs and lows as if it happened to us. humans are stubborn. a little selfish, yes, but we love to bond with animals like they're people, even with the threat of biting. what a wonderful place to live in then, in a world that loves to be petted
