Goalie development is crazy, hard to imagine a future hall of famer was playing in the NAHL. Couldn't even get a USHL look lol

Yea drafting goalies are a total crapshoot, just take one or two a draft and hope you hit on one

My favourite goalie, an absolute stud. It’s impressive that he was an overager in the NAHL and not only made it to the NHL, but became one of the best goalies in the history of the NHL. It’s a testament to his perseverance.

Thomas Milic was passed over in 2 draft years. drafted as a 20 year old. Another overager ripping it up in his rookie season.

Great goalie. I have my season tickets because of him.

I guess Hellebuyck played in a lower league which scouts took into account. Have to remind that the player development plays huge part on if goalie becomes a starter for the team. I mean most of the goalies are about 4 years away of becoming fulltime NHL goalie and prime starts at 26. Some NHL organizations suck at developing goalies. Right now Hellebuyck and Bowness is pretty lethal combo for the Jets

2014 might be the best draft in NHL history for goalies. Something like 9 goalies drafted in 2014 are currently in the league.

And no one was interested in Helly this past summer before he re-signed with the jets is crazy to me.
@Bentami3 ай бұрын
devils fans were bad mouthing him and saying he cost too much. Hellebuyck is a goalie who will always be dialed in and wants to win, not only that, hes damn good being a goalie as well. Guy was on the market and teams absolutely fumbled
@Chris_Ireland3 ай бұрын
@Bentami no kidding! Jersey was 1 of the teams I was thinking about in particular, same with buffalo or detroit, imagine Carolina if they snagged him. All those teams coulda probably got him for pennies on the dollar for the trade, considering it felt like 0% chance Helly was staying in Winnipeg. GoJetsGo ✈️✈️✈️

Winnipeg never drafts a goalie prior to the 5th round. Last draft, Milic in 5th and DiVincentiis in 7th.

You could have drafted Korpisalo over a can of tuna and it would hurt just as much as missing on Hellebucyk

Stolarz was a solid goalie in Philly they just never really gave him a shot, when he got his shot in 2018 he got hurt but played well before hand. Then with the emergence of Hart they let stolarz and Lyon go, now harts gone too. Here’s hoping zavragin, errson or kolosov can be the guy in Philly. It was finally a position of strength but is once again weak

Interesting... Sens pick Winnipeg product, Chris Dreiger, in the 3rd round. Then Winnipeg's next pick after the Sens selected Drieger was Connor Hellebuyck.... I wonder if the Sens saved Wpg from picking Dreiger? Winnipeg is known for picking local players at the Draft (due to retention issues [cold weather]). So I wouldnt be surprised if they had their eye on Dreiger before the Sens snatched him up.. This Butterfly effect may have lead to Wpg picking the next best available Goalie in Connor Hellebuyck?
@kalexander49803 ай бұрын
Actually No, Wpg does not pick very many "local" (wpgers/manitobains) in the draft 2011 - Jason Kasdorf 2016- Jordan Stallard -Brandon, MB I am not sure how focused they were on Dreidger but there is a very good article in the athletic about Wpg's scouting of Hellebuyck

Is 2012 the best goalie draft of all time but worst forward and defenseman draft in recent memory?
@MikeBartner3 ай бұрын
It's gotta be the top 5 is like Forsberg, Hertl, Teuvo, Stephenson and Tom Wilson
@PhoenixRiseinFlame3 ай бұрын
I think it’s close, but I’d personally go 2014 for the best goalie draft all time. 9 goalies currently in the league were drafted in 2014 including Shesterkin, Sorokin, and Demko (all of which should win Vezinas in their careers) 2012 does have Ullmark, Hellebuyk, and Vasilevskiy but I think the number of goalies currently playing is less.

Helle isn't quite Mike Richter status, yet, but with a bit more hardware this year.. preferably including a team piece as well, he'd definitely be added to that conversation!

Stolarz leads the league in GAA and Save percentage for goalies that played at 22 games. As far as Knight, he won't be back in the NHL again for the FL Panthers. He carries a high cap hit and he can't stay off the drugs/booz. S FL isn't a place for someone that is trying to avoid substance abuse. Maybe if he stays in the AHL until Bob's contract expires they try again. He will need a change of scenery. All the goalies for FL have had inflated stats for the last 3 or 4 years as backups. Tricky to judge any of them when playing with this team. Lyon, Drieger, Knight, now Stolarz. All had better numbers then Bob.
@krizlad3 ай бұрын
You do actually know drugs and alcohol have absolutely nothing to do with Knight being in the players assistance program.
