Does anybody else catch the irony that, on the very last game of a career defined by him backstopping a team incapable of scoring, his teammates put up 10 goals?

Them putting up 10 in a meaningless game where the Panthers were resting all their best players for Price's final game is weirdly fitting, but I am glad they could get one last good game in for Carey...

As a montrealer, I remember mid 2010s Carey Price being special. Not just in his stats, not just in the way he played, but also in the way people would talk about him, almost as if he was a sacred idol. Playing goalie in the streets and you made a big save? Carey Price. He was the heart and soul of the organization, of the city, of the province for years and I so wish he had gotten that cup in 2021. Not to see my habs win, to see Carey win. The same way he was compared to Dryden and Roy, Habs goalies will now be compared to Price. Even though I understood his reasons, I was heartbroken when he announced he would be stepping away. Every time he stops by the Bell Centre for ceremonial purposes, I don't think there's a dry eye in the building. We miss Carey, and we'll forever love him.

Even more so than King Henrik, I feel for Carey price. He deserved a cup, and the Habs failed him time after time. This man put the team on his back year after year, and the meager supporting cast always let him down. What a shame
@malcolmk2878
@malcolmk2878 11 ай бұрын
Beyond that, the fans often failed him too. There are still French Canadians TO THIS DAY who say "Carey Price never won anything". In the face of facts, in the face of stats, they're immovable in their rejection of him. And they're not a loud minority. There are actually quite many of them. Mostly French-Canadians, as I haven't met a whole lot of Anglophone Habs fans who don't absolutely adore Carey. And he's had to deal with that his entire career. Even after his absolutely sensational run in 2021. Marc Bergevin set Carey up. He gave him an absolutely ridiculous contract that never should have been, and he failed repeatedly to help him out by building an actual team around him. Marc Bergevin failed Carey, and he failed the Montreal fans he was always so condescending toward. My greatest regret is that Carey never wona Cup with us, or at all. I hoope he can stay close to the organization and some day have his name carved into Lord Stanley's Cup. He deserves it more than any other goalie I know.

Nope. You heard the video. The canadiens never focused on defense. The Canadiens were scoring at a higher rate than the Rangers in those days, but still couldn’t win. I was lucky enough to have a private meet and greet with Carey November 2023. I owned one of his last ever jerseys he wore. I was going to have him sign it, but I asked him if he had any of his last ever worn jerseys. I was saddened to hear he did not. I gave him his jersey he wore in 2022 against Philly. He was moved and genuinely surprised someone would offer something like that to him with no strings. Guy could flat out play. Had it not been for injuries, he could have played to almost 40 and dominate. Suck a good piece that has been created. Everyone who doubted the kid and tore him down should watch this. Montreal had something special. He will be first ballot hall of fame! I truly feel if the Bell Center could have been filled to capacity against the Lightning, the series could have been different.

Just to add something about how magical that final 10-2 game against the pathers was. The game was played on April 29th, and Guy Lafleur had died exactly a week earlier, on April 22nd. It was Guy Lafleur bobblehead night the the Bell Centre, something that had been planned long before Lafleur's death. The team scored 10 goals that night, and Lafleur wore #10. Chants of "Guy! Guy! Guy!" filled the arena as Price played his final game. The ghosts of the Forum were in the building.

Just writing this comment has brought back memories of me at 8 or 9 or 10 years old, wearing pillows on my legs and pretending to be Carey Price. I loved this video. Patrick Roy was always my favourite and will always be. I would love, totally love, a video like this about him even though I know his career pretty well already. There is not a shadow of a doubt in my mind that Price bringing a lotery team (last in 2022) to a STANLEY CUP FINAL APPEARANCE is the single-most impreasive thing a goalie has done in the playoff since Jean-Sébastien Giguère in 2003.

I really love this video. As a Habs fan who only started watching hockey last season, I love hearing the tales of players from the past. I wish I could have watched Carey play, but I also accept that he has done his time and deserves a break. I just wish the team could have performed to his level.

The 2014 playoffs give me the vibe of a Urinatingtree quote "We have found the only way to stop a brick wall in net is to have an even thicker brick wall" (referring to the preds 2017 playoff run) Like Price was great but there are very few goalies who could have outdueled prime King Henrik

I remember being in a Cage aux Sports to watch a playoff game in the 2010 playoffs, and I had my Carey Price jersey on. I was getting plenty of hostility from habs fans around me. As if wearing a Price jersey instead of a Halak jersey was sacrilegious. I never doubted that Price was the guy. On a side note, that Kreider slide to Price's knee will haunt me forever. Habs would have faced the 8th seed LA kings in the finals. It was the year to win it all.

Carey Price is the reason I love hockey. I’ve been a generational Habs fan but I came of age during the mid 2010s and the 2014 playoff run until the Kreider incident will always be some of my most cherished memories. A lot of my friends are die hard leaf or bruins fans but back then even they could admit that we had the very best between the pipes. Had he been on basically any other team in those years he could have won the cup. He will go down as one of the greats. I wish he could have won it for us habs faithful so much, but I wish he could have won it for him even more.

These are so good. I still am curious how you’d rank heartbreaking Ovi era Capitals losses. Just a team consistently on the wrong side of history, but seemingly so close every year. From the run and gun teams of the late 2000s to the overcorrection to the Halak series (“Defensive Boudreau”/Dale Hunter/Adam Oates Purgatory) to the Trotz-led super teams of the mid-late 2010s. So many small moments and 50-50 plays that if went the other way, could have completely shifted history. They were the opposite of a team of destiny until 2018, when the hockey gods decided they had suffered enough.

As a québécois, I can say that the historical / cultural point of view on the team was spot on, the expression “Sainte Flanelle” and the saint trinity of Richard, Beliveau and Lafleur says it all, this team has a very rare and special cultural dimension that you rarely find elsewhere

The Habs never had a 80pts scorer all those year. INSANE, he never had any offence what if he played for the Penguins would he have been as good as when he won gold? We will never know sadly. Great video! Love it

25:39 - You can actually, and not only that, but it happened that very year! Both Price and the Hawks' Crawford got the trophy that year. Neither team had a backup play the required 25 games. In 02-03, The Devils Brodeur got the trophy, as did Flyers goalies Esche and Cechmanek. This could in theory get silly if +3 teams had the lowest goals allowed in the league. To top it off, there is an odd chance three goalies on a team would share the trophy, but that's unlikely as a minimum of 25 games is required.

Carey Price is the most talented, instinctive goalie I've seen - and I've watched a lot of hockey. So mechanically crisp that he's almost a robot, and he also has whatever Hasek gene that lets you predict the future when you're out of position.

Another great video by you. I don’t know if you take suggestions but I’d like you to cover the Avs vs Stars rivalry WCF in either 99 or 2000 since I felt like below the Avs vs Wings rivalry, it was the Stars vs Avs rivalry which caused Dallas to go back to back to the final.
